FURTHER RANGE EXPANSION OF THE SCULPTURED RESIN BEE (MEGACHILE SCULPTURALIS) IN SERBIA AND BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA (SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL)

Table S1. Records of M. sculpturalis from Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina during 2020, sorted chronologically. The unit record is defined as unique locality/date combination, hence, some recording sites encompass repeated recording events (being re-visited for various purposes); however, in few cases of extended observation of nesting activity, repeated reports are omitted. Source of data is abbreviated as: OR – Own Research (surveying by co-authors), or CSP – Citizen Science Project reports. Coordinates (Latitude, Longitude) are given in WGS84 system. Locations are given as broader toponyms and/or in combination with smaller units (municipalities, etc.), while coordinates were used to define the basic locality-units. Recorded by: co-authors are shown by initials, full surnames given for CSP contributors (but only initials if withheld by request). Recording context: mostly recorded on blooming Styphnolobium trees (49 out of 64), 7 based on nesting (but #46 includes both the nesting and observation on Styphnolobium within the same site), 9 were other contexts. Sex: F – female, M – males; indicates positively established sex of the observed specimens (some reports likely include both sexes, but undocumented). Sampling: number of collected specimens, followed by "p" if some included pollen.

Chemical imaging data collected on wood board sections after impregnation-treatment with phenol formaldehyde resin

This dataset contains UV microspectrophotometry (UMSP) and near infrared (NIR) imaging data from the following publication: Altgen M., Awais M. Altgen D., Klüppel A., Koch G., Mäkelä M., Olbrich A., Rautkari L. (2022) Chemical imaging to reveal the resin distribution in impregnation-treated wood at different spatial scales. Materials & Design, DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.matdes.2022.111481.

The data was obtained from beech wood board sections (75x15x25 mm3) that were impregnation-treated with a low molecular weight phenol formaldehyde resin. Experimental details can be found in the publication.

The file “NIR sample IDs with weight and dimensional changes.csv” contains the sample IDs and the weight percent gains caused by the resin treatment of each sample in the dataset. To generate the NIR image files, regions of interest of 881 x 384 pixels (subsets a,b,c,d) or 2401 x 375 pixels were selected from the raw image files to produce an image that contains the sample surrounded by background. The spectral data was corrected using the calibration reflectance target values and then converted to absorbance. Each NIR image is stored in a separate MATLAB file (.mat) with the sample ID as the file name.

The file "UMSP sample IDs.csv" contains the sample IDs of the UMSP images. The folder "UMSP image profiles.zip" contains the corresponding UMSP image profiles, which are stored as excel files (.xlsx) with the sample IDs as file names. The files contain the absorbance at 278 nm per pixel with a pixel resolution of 0.25 x 0.25 µm2.

Block chemistry for accurate modeling of epoxy resins

## Abstract

from [1]:

Accurate molecular modelling of the physical and chemical behavior of highly cross-linked epoxy resins at the atomistic scale is important for the design of new property-optimized materials. However, a systematic approach to parametrizing and characterizing these systems in molecular dynamics is missing. We, therefore, present a unified scheme to derive atomic charges for amine-based epoxy resins, in agreement with the AMBER force field, based on defining reactive fragments – blocks – building the network. The approach is applicable to all stages of curing, from pure liquid, to gelation, to fully cured glass. We utilize this approach to study DGEBA/DDS epoxy systems, incorporating dynamic topology changes into atomistic Molecular Dynamics simulations of the curing reaction with 127,000 atoms. We study size effects in our simulations and predict the gel point utilizing rigorous percolation theory to accurately recover the experimental data. Furthermore, we observe excellent agreement between the estimated and the experimentally determined glass transition temperatures as a function of curing rate. Finally, we demonstrate the quality of our model by the prediction of the elastic modulus, based on uniaxial tensile tests. The presented scheme paves the way for a broadly consistent approach for modelling and characterizing all amine-based epoxy resins.

## Contact

Ana-Sunčana Smith and Christian R.
