Automatic extraction of opinions of users of social networks on reproductive behavior issues
<p>The database contains an upload of text comments in Russian from the social network Vkontakte in .tsv format (UTF-8 encoding). Comments are collected from communities, which discuss pregnancy, childhood, motherhood, paternity, etc. Comments are collected from communities, which discuss pregnancy, childhood, motherhood, paternity, etc. <br> The database contains train, test and valid sets for machine learning processing. For the analysis of opinions in the field of reproductive behavior, nine groups of the social network Vkontakte were selected, in the names or descriptions of which the words "childfree" and their variations were clearly present, and 341 groups, in the names or descriptions of which the keywords "mother", " mothers "," children ", etc. and the number of subscribers of which was more than 10,000 people. This distribution of groups depended on the different activity of groups - supporters of a childless lifestyle produced significantly more posts and comments on our topics. Using data from different groups of the social network Vkontakte avoids data homogeneity - one of the weak points of sentiment analysis. Thus, the presented database is suitable for the analysis of specific demographic groups, which we conditionally called “anti-natalists” and “pronatalists”. Note that in the group of pronatalists there are largely representatives of a small child model of reproductive behavior. The sample contains data about stance on 6 topics: "maternity capital / benefits", "abortion", "large families", "childlessness", "parental leave", "individualism".The topics are selected by a set of keywords such as abortion, childfree, rest, no child and so on.</p> <p>Sentences from the collected sample were randomly selected for annotator marking. Each sentence was marked with three annotators. Since each sentence could discuss several issues, the annotator marked each sentence on all seven topics. The proposals were marked up mainly by professional demographers and linguists.</p>
DATA FOR STUDY OF PRIVACY ATTITUDE OF USERS OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES AND THEIR EXPECTATIONS FROM LAW IN INDIA
<p>In the present study, on Indian population a disproportionate, stratified, purposive, convenience mixed sampling technique has been adopted in order to ensure proper representation of all the stakeholders concerned with regard to the issue of data privacy in India among the population of the study. The stratified sampling technique is popularly used for a large size population and where it is desirable to purposively have an adequate representation of the all the sub-groups. It is estimated that there are about 0.2 million Law Enforcement Officers (Directors General of Police to Assistant Sub- Inspector), 2.2 million Legal Professionals, including 21,586 Judges, 1.5 million Academicians, about 5000 Information Assurance and Privacy Experts, and 450 million Internet Users in India, out of which 196 million use SNSs. It may be clarified here that all these stakeholders are not only the users of social networking sites but also Indian citizens who are stakeholders in enactment and implementation of the privacy law as and when it is enacted.</p> <p>Based on the size of the total population, a statistically adequate sample size of 385, having a 95 per cent Confidence Level, 5 per cent Margin of Error (Confidence Interval), 0.5 Standard Deviation, a 1.96 Z-score was calculated.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
Social network differences and phenotypic divergence between stickleback ecotypes
<p><span></span></p> <p>Elucidating the mechanisms underlying differentiation between populations is essential to our understanding of ecological and evolutionary processes. While social network analysis has yielded numerous insights in behavioral ecology in recent years, it has rarely been applied to questions about population differentiation. Here, we use social network analysis to assess the potential role of social behavior in the recent divergence between two three-spined stickleback ecotypes, "whites" and "commons". These ecotypes differ significantly in their social behavior and mating systems as adults, but it is unknown when or how differences in social behavior develop. We found that as juveniles, the white ecotype was bolder and more active than the common ecotype. Furthermore, while there was no evidence for assortative shoaling preferences, the two ecotypes differed in social network structure. Specifically, groups of the white ecotype had a lower clustering coefficient than groups of the common ecotype, suggesting that groups of the white ecotype were characterized by the formation of smaller subgroups, or 'cliques'. Interestingly, ecotypic differences in clustering coefficient were not apparent in mixed groups composed of whites and commons. The formation of cliques could contribute to population divergence by restricting the social environment that individuals experience, potentially influencing future mating opportunities and preferences. These findings highlight the insights that social network analysis can offer into our understanding of population divergence and reproductive isolation.</p>
Socio-demographic portrait and demographic values of pro-natalists and anti-natalists in Russia: assessment based on data from the social network VKontakte
<p>The dataset contains data from personal profiles of social network users VKontakte - socio-demographic characteristics (gender, age, date of birth, marital status, country and city of residence) and indicators of demographic values (“the main thing in life”, attitude to alcohol, attitude to smoking, pronatalist or anti-natalist), as well as a number of other indicators - religious and political beliefs,<br> "the main thing in people." Initially, as a selection criterion, the authors used belonging user to the relevant communities (groups) of the VKontakte social network, sharing different family and reproductive values (to be a parent, to give birth child, start a family or profess the values of childfree philosophy). For example, persons who were members of groups devoted to "childfree" values were assigned the status "anti-natalist". And individuals in groups devoted to issues of childbirth and family values, parenthood, were assigned the status of "pronatalist". For example, groups with the names "GOOD PARENTS" (https://vk.com/club52388302) and "MOM: Development, Family, Children" (https://vk.com/club69716165) are pronatalist, and groups "The TRUTH about Childfree (Childfree)" (https://vk.com/club58565280) and "Overheard Childfree" (https://vk.com/club69265846) - to anti-natalist ones. The authors extracted comments of users of these two types of groups in the social network VKontakte, applying methods of extraction (parsing) of data from social networks using VK API. Organized open access to databases compiled by us from hundreds<br> thousand comments from users of dozens of groups of two types in more than one and a half decades [Kalabikhina &amp; Banin, 2020; Kalabikhina &amp; Banin, 2021]. Further, the authors linked the data of their personal data to users from these groups.<br> questionnaires. At the second stage, the resulting sample was additionally corrected - in it only those persons who filled in the field "The main thing in life" in the personal questionnaire on VKontakte to determine priority values for users with different types of reproductive behavior. Include in the analysis only those users who answered the question from personal questionnaire on VKontakte about what is most important for them in life, allows reduce the risk of "bots" getting into the sample. We believe that in the questionnaires of bots such fields as "The main thing in life", "The main thing in people" will not be filled in, the indication of this<br> information in the personal profile testifies in favor of the fact that the account is really belongs to a real person. At this stage, the sample included 754,315 users. Additionally, we limited the sample according to the age indicated in the questionnaire. We excluded from the sample users who indicated their age of 80 years and older. We we believe that this is an indirect sign by which it is possible to identify accounts with inaccurate information. The final sample after the introduced restrictions was 377,786 people, it includes users of the social network VKontakte, consisting of groups of anti-natalists and pro-natalists who filled in the information section about themselves item "The main thing in life" minus persons who indicated in the questionnaire that they are over 80 years old.</p>

Data for: Simulation and social network analysis provide insight into the acquisition of tool behavior in hybrid macaques
<p>The pathways through which primates acquire skills are a central focus of cultural evolution studies. The roles of social and genetic inheritance processes in skill acquisition are often confounded by environmental factors. Hybrid macaques from Koram Island, Thailand provide an opportunity to examine the roles of inheritance and social learning to skill acquisition within a single ecological setting. These hybrids are a cross between tool-using Burmese long-tailed (<em>Macaca</em> <em>fascicularis</em> <em>aurea</em>) and non-tool-using common long-tailed macaques (<em>Macaca</em> <em>fascicularis</em> <em>fascicularis</em>). This population provides an opportunity to explore the roles of social learning and inheritance processes while being able to exclude underlying ecological factors. Here, we investigate the roles of social learning and inheritance in tool use prevalence within this population using social network analysis and simulation. Agent-based modeling (ABM) is used to generate expectations for how social/asocial learning and inheritance structure the patterning in a social network. The results of the simulation show that various transmission mechanisms can be differentiated based on associations between individuals in a social network. The results provide an investigative framework for discussing tool-use transmission pathways in the Koram social network. By combining ABM, network analysis, and behavioral data from the field we can investigate the roles social learning and inheritance play in tool acquisition in wild primates. </p>
Social network inheritance and differentiation in wild baboons
<p>Immatures' social development may be fundamental to understanding important biological processes, such as social information transmission through groups, that can vary with age and sex. Our aim was to determine how social networks change with age and differ between sexes in wild immature baboons, group-living primates that readily learn socially. Our results show that immature baboons inherited their mothers' networks and differentiated from them as they aged, increasing their association with partners of similar age and the same sex. Males were less bonded to their matriline and became more peripheral with age compared to females. Our results may pave the way to further studies testing a new hypothetical framework: in female-philopatric societies, social information transmission may be constrained at the matrilineal level by age- and sex-driven social clustering.</p>
Data from: Culling-induced perturbation of social networks of wild geese reinforces rather than disrupts associations among survivors
<p>Wildlife populations may be the subject of management interventions for disease control that can have unintended, counterproductive effects. Social structure exerts a strong influence over infectious disease transmission in addition to other characteristics of populations such as size and density that are the primary target for disease control. Social network approaches have been widely used to understand disease transmission in wildlife but rarely in the context of perturbations, such as culling, despite the likely impacts of such disturbance on social structure and disease dynamics. Here we present a 'removal' study of a free-living population of resident Canada geese <em>Branta canadensis</em>, a highly social species that is frequently managed by culling and can carry pathogens relevant to human and domestic animal health. We quantified social network structure and spatial behaviour before and after controlled culling of individuals during the summer moult. Culling did not substantially increase individual social connectivity. Individuals that moulted at cull sites or were formerly strongly associated with removed birds were more likely to strengthen and maintain any surviving existing associations while also forming new associations. However, the establishment of new associations was largely compensatory (with only small increases in the number and strength of connections) and occurred locally. Synthesis & applications: geese that survived the cull responded by strengthening existing social relationships and forming new, compensatory relationships with birds local to them in the network. In the short-term such compensatory adjustments to patterns of association in response to culling could facilitate pathogen transmission. But in the longer term, controlled culling of geese is unlikely to strongly influence pathogen spread and may even slow transmission into new social clusters by reducing wider mixing. When managing wildlife for disease control, in addition to changes in social network structure the prevalence of infection at the time of the cull and the mode of transmission (e.g., direct versus environmental) will also be critical determinants of disease transmission risk in perturbed populations of geese and other wild animals.</p>
