Data for: Superconductivity in twisted double bilayer graphene stabilized by WSe₂

Identifying the essential components of superconductivity in graphene-based systems remains a critical problem in 2D materials research, connecting this field to the mysteries that underpin investigations of unconventional superconductivity throughout condensed-matter physics. Superconductivity has been previously observed in magic-angle twisted stacks of monolayer graphene but conspicuously not in twisted stacks of bilayer graphene, although both systems host topological flat bands and symmetry-broken states. Here, we report the discovery of superconductivity in twisted double bilayer graphene (TDBG) in proximity to WSe2. Samples with twist angles 1.24 and 1.37 degrees superconduct in small pockets of the gate-tuned phase diagram within the valence and conduction band, respectively. Superconductivity emerges from unpolarized phases near van Hove singularities and next to regions with broken isospin symmetry, showing the correlation between a high density of states and the emergence of superconductivity in TDBG while revealing a possible role for isospin fluctuations in the pairing.

Hartree-Fock on a superconducting qubit quantum computer

The simulation of fermionic systems is among the most anticipated applications of quantum computing. Here, we performed several quantum simulations of chemistry with up to one dozen qubits, including modeling the isomerization mechanism of diazene. We also demonstrated error-mitigation strategies based on N-representability which dramatically improve the effective fidelity of our experiments. Our parameterized ansatz circuits realized the Givens rotation approach to non-interacting fermion evolution, which we variationally optimized to prepare the Hartree-Fock wavefunction. This ubiquitous algorithmic primitive is classically tractable to simulate, yet still generates highly entangled states over the computational basis, which allowed us to assess the performance of our hardware and establish a foundation for scaling up correlated quantum chemistry simulations.

Quantum supremacy using a programmable superconducting processor

The tantalizing promise of quantum computers is that certain computational tasks might be executed exponentially faster on a quantum processor than on a classical processor. A fundamental challenge is to build a high-fidelity processor capable of running quantum algorithms in an exponentially large computational space. Here, we report using a processor with programmable superconducting qubits to create quantum states on 53 qubits, corresponding to a computational state-space of dimension 2^53 ∼ 10^16. Measurements from repeated experiments sample the corresponding probability distribution, which we verify using classical simulations. While our processor takes about 200 seconds to sample one instance of a quantum circuit 1 million times, a state-of-the-art supercomputer would require approximately 10,000 years to perform the equivalent task. This dramatic speedup relative to all known classical algorithms provides an experimental realization of quantum supremacy on a computational task and heralds the advent of a much-anticipated computing paradigm.

Solar Electric Motor on Superconducting Bearings in Liquid Nitrogen - Vertical Configuration - 190 rpm

A solar electric motor, immersed in liquid nitrogen, and levitated on superconducting bearings, has been designed and tested at the GREEN Laboratory. This video shows the permanent regime that represents a speed around 190 rpm, with a configuration of superconducting bearings called "vertical configuration" and a Plexiglas cylinder around the cubic rotor in order to reduce the frictions in the liquid. It's the same rotor than in [10.5281/zenodo.154095] but the Plexiglas cover has been added, which leads to an increase of the speed from 75 rpm to 190 rpm.
