NEMARCO project: Dataset for the publication "Development of a new manufacturing route for NiCrSiFeB alloys by Direct Energy Deposition Laser Beam process (LMD)"

<p><strong>LMD dataset</strong></p> <p>This dataset gathers data from different parts of the Laser Metal Deposition metal Additive Manufacturing process (DED-LB). The dataset covers not only the process development data for samples manufacturing and monitored data of the melt pool size during the process, but also the metrics associated to the powder feedstock consumption, energy consumption and process efficiency.</p> <p><strong>Motivation</strong></p> <p>Nickel-based NiCrSiFeB alloy (Ni-Cr-Si-B self-fluxing family) are excellent candidates for replacing Cobalt-based alloys in aeronautical components such as sealing rings, valve seats, sliding bearing seats, etc. In this type of components, commonly manufactured by centrifugal casting and conventional processes, high temperature wear and stiffness under complex thermo-mechanical stresses cause lack of sealing and an increase in the wear rate. Metal additive manufacturing by direct laser metal deposition with powder (p-LMD) is presented as a potential manufacturing route for the complex processing of this type of alloys. This research work deals with the development of a new manufacturing route using p-LMD that ranges from the proper selection of the chemical composition for the starting powders, the development of the LMD process parameters to tackle the challenges associated to the wide &nbsp;solidification range and crack susceptibility of Ni-Cr-Si-B alloys, its monitoring and control, as well as the post- processing required to achieve the manufacture of aeronautical components.</p>

Metabolizable energy and biomass of plants consumed by caribou (Rangifer tarandus) in tundra communities of northern Alaska and deer (Odocoileus spp.) in forests and grasslands of Washington, United States of America

<p>A ubiquitous interaction operates at the base of food webs in many terrestrial ecosystems of the world, creating the foundation for bottom-up regulation of consumers. This interaction plays out as follows. Populations of herbivores deplete plant biomass by foraging. Increasing herbivore population size intensifies this depletion, which in turn, creates a negative feedback regulating herbivore population growth. Large herbivores and the plants they consume offer a useful system for studying this interaction because populations of large herbivores are often regulated by density dependence, defined as the reduction in the per-capita growth rate that occurs as populations grow. Diminished body mass of individuals has been repeatedly observed in high-density populations, implicating plant-mediated, diminished nutrition as the primary cause of density dependence. However, there is no general explanation for why these nutritional deficiencies occur.  The data deposited here were used to demonstrate fit new model of the feedbacks from plant biomass to herbivores. The model shows how reduced nutrition of herbivores can result from increased dilution of metabolizable energy in the plant tissue they consume as populations grow even when a large fraction of the consumable plant biomass remains uneaten. This result provides a tidy, mechanistic explanation for bottom-up control of population dynamics of primary consumers in a "green world." </p>

Sex-related communicative functions of voice spectral energy in human chorusing

<p>Music is a human communicative art whose evolutionary origins may lie in capacities that support cooperation and/or competition. A mixed account favoring simultaneous cooperation and competition draws on analogous interactive displays produced by collectively signalling non-human animals (e.g., crickets and frogs). In these displays, rhythmically coordinated calls serve as a beacon whereby groups of males "cooperatively" attract potential female mates, while the likelihood of each male competitively attracting an actual mate depends on the precedence of his signal. Human behaviour consistent with the mixed account was previously observed in a renowned boys choir, where the basses—the oldest boys with the deepest voices—boosted their acoustic prominence by increasing energy in a high-frequency band of the vocal spectrum when girls were in an otherwise male audience. The current study tested female and male sensitivity and preferences for this subtle vocal modulation in online listening tasks. Results indicate that while female and male listeners are similarly sensitive to enhanced high-spectral energy elicited by the presence of female audience members, only female listeners exhibit a reliable preference for it. Findings suggest that human chorusing is a flexible form of social communicative behavior that allows simultaneous group cohesion and sexually motivated competition.</p>

A dataset of DFT-computed oxygen vacancy formation energies of metal oxides

<p>This dataset contains DFT-computed oxygen vacancy formation energies of different oxygen sites in over 1000 metal oxides present on the Open Quantum Materials Database (OQMD). Entries in the Data.csv file are indexed using the OQMD entry ID of the pristine structure, and list, alongside the oxygen vacancy formation energy, a number of other properties used as features in machine learning models. An exemplary code allowing to test the performance of a random forest regressor using different sets of features to predict the vacancy formation energy, as a function of training set size, is provided in Test_Models.py. Iberian Summer Surface Temperature and Fluxes for Energy Balance

<p>This dataset holds selected postprocessed files for surface temperature and fluxes involved in the surface energy balance.</p><p>Four WRF experiments nested in ERA-Interim were prepared. The first one (N) was configured as in standard numerical downscaling experiments using the Noah LSM. The second one (D), with the same parameterizations, included a step of 3DVAR data assimilation every 6 hours. The third and the fourth ones (S and C) are similar to N and D but use a diffusive soil scheme instead of NOAH LSM. The experiments covered the period 2010-2014 after a year of spin-up (2019).&nbsp;</p><p>The following 3-hourly files are included:</p><ul><li>Tsoil: soil temperature for the first 2 top levels of the surface.</li><li>T2: 2 metre temperature.&nbsp;</li><li>Latent: Latent heat flux.</li><li>Sensible: Sensible heat flux.</li><li>NetSW: net short-wave radiation flux at the surface.</li><li>NetLW: net long-wave radiation flux at the surface.</li><li>GRDFLX: ground flux toward lower layers of the soil.</li></ul><p>The <i>N, D, C or S </i>characters in the file names indicate whether the files come from the WRF N, D, C or S experiments.
