Dataset for the detection and gender classification of crickets Acheta domesticus
<p>The dataset can be used for training AI models for detection and sex classification of Acheta domesticus crickets.<br>The dataset is already divided into training, validation and test dataset. <br>The format is the classical COCO/YOLO format for object detection tasks.<br>The file contain a *.yaml configuration file that allows to define the dataset root directory, the relative paths to training/validation/testing image directories or *.txt files containing image paths, and a dictionary of class names. In this case the class names are:</p> <ul> <li>0: cricket_M (i.e., male crickets);</li> <li>1: cricket_F (i.e., female crickets);</li> </ul> <p>The images are labelled by an expert operator and acquired with the setup described by Giulietti et al. in "Vision Measurement System for Gender-based Counting of Acheta domesticus".<br>Labels for this format should be exported to YOLO format with one *.txt file per image. If there are no objects in an image, no *.txt file is required. The *.txt file should be formatted with one row per object in class x_center y_center width height format. Box coordinates must be in normalized xywh format (from 0 to 1). If your boxes are in pixels, you should divide x_center and width by image width, and y_center and height by image height. Class numbers should be zero-indexed (start with 0).</p>
Age and Gender in the Classroom: Exploring the Well-being of Older Adults in Continuing Education through a Pilot Study
<p><span>This pilot study, a precursor to more in-depth research, examines the relationship between age, gender, and well-being in older adults participating in educational programs. Employing a quantitative design, descriptive analyses, T-Tests, ANOVA, and correlations were used to assess participants' responses. The results highlight an imbalanced age and gender distribution, with a predominance of individuals aged 66-75 and a higher proportion of women. The analyses reveal significant differences in well-being based on gender and age. Correlations indicate that as age increases, so does satisfaction with past and future life, although interest in new challenging experiences decreases. This study underscores the importance of considering demographic differences when designing and implementing educational programs for older adults, emphasizing the need for specific adaptations to maximize well-being and participation</span></p>
Data for: ACADEMIC RESILIENCE OF STUDENTS TO SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT THROUGH PERCEIVED EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FROM THE INSTRUCTOR, AND GENDER VARIATION
<p>Students with high academic resilience tend to cope and overcome impediments throughout the educational process. Published scholarly works have accentuated that academically resilient students are more engaged in school than their counterparts. Studies have also stressed the importance of instructor emotional support to students’ engagement in schooling. This current study is engrossed in examining academic resiliency vis-à-vis school engagement via perceived instructor emotional support from 910 samples of undergraduate students (Male: N=536, 58.9%, and Female: N=374, 41.1%) from various institutes at City College of Angeles, Philippines. Additionally, it aimed to assess the significant difference between gender concerning the three variables. Mann-Whitney U and Independent Samples T-Test were used to determine the significant difference concerning gender in academic resilience, perceived instructor emotional support, and school engagement. The findings revealed no significant difference between gender concerning school engagement, and a significant difference was found for academic resilience and perceived instructor emotional support. Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS4 was performed for the mediation analysis. The findings displayed that (1) ARS is significantly related to and predicts school engagement; (2) academic resilience is positively associated with and leverages instructor emotional support; (3) perceived instructor emotional support is significantly linked to and triggers school engagement; (4) most importantly, the relationship between academic resilience and school engagement is partially mediated by perceived instructor emotional support. The results emphasized the significance of the emotional support provided by instructors in fostering resilience and engagement in undergraduate students. Findings were discoursed by highlighting the importance of promoting personal and contextual resources in the college to promote students’ overall well-being.</p>
Revealing Gender Biases in (TJSP) Court Decisions with Natural Language Processing
<p>Data derived from the realm of the social sciences is often produced in digital text form, which motivates its use as a source for natural language processing methods. Researchers and practitioners have developed and relied on artificial intelligence techniques to collect, process, and analyze documents in the legal field, especially for tasks such as text summarization and classification. In this scenario, we identify an underexplored potential of natural language processing used to delve into human rights issues in the context of artificial intelligence for social good. Qualitative and quantitative social science methods have been used to study matters such as institutional gender biasing in legal settings; however, natural language processing-based approaches can help analyze the issue on a larger scale. The work Revealing Gender Biases in Court Decisions with Natural Language Processing presents a protocol to address the automatic detection of institutional gender biasing in Brazilian courts, which comprises: (a) a pipeline of collection, annotation, and preparation of text extracted from court decisions issued by the São Paulo state Court of Justice in cases of domestic violence and parental alienation, which resulted in two datasets; (b) an experimental protocol of supervised binary classification over the decisions, performed with BERTimbau-based models; (c) methods for evaluating and validating such protocol.</p> <p>Here, we present the two datasets associated with this work: Dataset 1, made of 1,604 decisions issued by the Court between 2012 and 2019 in domestic violence-related criminal cases (DVC), and Dataset 2, made of 49 decisions issued by the Court in the same timeframe in civil and criminal parental alienation-related cases (PAC). Respondents were asked about: a) relation with the rural area and human-nature connectedness; b) perception toward rural abandonment and drivers of change; c) specific activities that in the municipality are carried out to face rural abandonment and how those activities are connected and promote different human well-being components. A final section of the survey compiled socio-demographic information to allow the characterization of the respondents.
