Peripheral blood DNA methylation profiles predict future development of B-cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Lack of accurate methods for early lymphoma detection limits the ability to cure patients. Patients with Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) who present with advanced disease have worse outcomes.

We developed a DNA methylation-based prediction tool for NHL, based on blood samples collected prospectively from 278 apparently healthy patients who were followed for up to 16 years to monitor for NHL development. A predictive score was developed using machine learning methods in a robust training/validation framework.

Our predictive score incorporates CpG DNA methylation at 135 genomic positions, with higher scores predicting higher risk. It was 85% and 78% accurate for identifying patients at risk of developing future NHL, in patients with high or low epigenetic mitotic clock respectively, in a validation cohort. It was also sensitive at detecting active NHL (96.3% accuracy) and healthy status (95.6% accuracy) in additional independent cohorts. Scores optimized for specific NHL subtypes showed significant but lower accuracy for predicting other subtypes. Our score incorporates hyper-methylation of Polycomb and HOX genes, which have roles in NHL development, as well as PAX5 - a master transcriptional regulator of B-cell fate. Subjects with higher risk scores showed higher regulatory T-cells, memory B-cells, but lower naïve T helper lymphocytes fractions in the blood.

A score based on DNA methylation in blood is accurate at predicting NHL development with lead time of up to 16 years. Future prospective studies will be required to confirm the utility of our signature for managing patients who are at high risk for developing future NHL.

Future changes in mangrove coastal water properties

This dataset contains data on future changes in sea-surface water properties along the global distribution of mangrove forests. This includes the coordinates of mangrove occurence and associated information on present (2000-2014) and future (2090-2100) sea-surface temperature (SST), sea-surface salinity (SSS), and sea-surface density (SSD, derived from SST and SSS, using the UNESCO EOS-80 equation of state polynomial for seawater - 'sw_dens.m' in MATLAB). SST and SSS fields from which the data were extracted, are from the Bio-ORACLE database. Additionally, for each of the mangrove occurence points (longitude, latitude), information is provided about the main mangrove biogeographical region and associated province as provided in the Marine Ecoregions of the World dataset (Spalding et al., 2007, BioScience), alowing for a spatial analysis of the data. More information and details about the data are provided in the README sheet of the Excel data file.

An exploration of trends and future directions in sustainability performance

Current global economic activities are increasingly being perceived as unsustainable. With Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) statement in 2015, sustainability performance has received significant attention from academics and practitioners. Thus, it is necessary to better understand the topics of interest and expand cooperation networks to advance studies in integrated efforts. The present bibliometric research intends to assess worldwide research tendency in sustainability performance on the foundation of publishing outputs, co-authorships amongst authors and affiliated countries, and cooccurrences of author keywords, as well as to identify gaps and make research recommendations. The analysis has reviewed, retrieved and analysed 3680 papers, which were published from 1997 to 2021. The outcomes reveal that since 1997, the sum of publications has been on the rise steadily. About a third of all global papers on sustainability performance was produced by researchers from the United States and Australia, outnumbering the remaining 138 countries/territories. Furthermore, among the 10 most prolific authors in sustainability performance, their current affiliations all belong to the university. Finally, this study proposes a significant research gap for future study of practitioners and researchers. The social sustainability and the relationship between the material flow analysis and sustainability performance should be noted.

Data from: Predicting range shifts of Davidia involucrata Ball. under future climate change

Understanding and predicting how species will respond to climate change is crucial for biodiversity conservation. Here, we assessed future climate change impacts on the distribution of a rare and endangered plant species, Davidia involucrate in China, using the most recent global circulation models developed in the sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC6). We assessed the potential range shifts in this species by using an ensemble of species distribution models (SDMs). The ensemble SDMs exhibited high predictive ability and suggested that the temperature annual range, annual mean temperature, and precipitation of the driest month are the most influential predictors in shaping distribution patterns of this species. The projections of the ensemble SDMs also suggested that D. involucrate is very vulnerable to future climate change, with at least one-third of its suitable range expected to be lost in all future climate change scenarios and will shift to the northward of high-latitude regions. Similarly, at least one-fifthof the overlap area of the current nature reserve networks and projected suitable habitat is also expected to be lost. These findings suggest that it is of great importance to ensure that adaptive conservation management strategies are in place to mitigate the impacts of climate change on D. involucrate.
