<p>This dataset includes both raw and processed data associated with the publication entitled "Assessment of the effects of the 2021 Caldor megafire on soil physical properties, eastern Sierra Nevadas, USA", published in MDPI Fire (doi: <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390/fire6020066">10.3390/fire6020066</a>). Raw files include exported .xlsx files from Meter Group HYPROP analyses, .csv files from 10 replicate measurements of saturated hydraulic conductivity for each analyzed sample using the Meter Group KSAT device, and raw .dat files from measurement of bulk thermal properties. A single additional file also documents the laboratory results from particle size and loss on ignition analyses. Processed data includes curve fitting parameters associated with fitting the soil water retention curves (SWRC) and thermal conductivity functions (TCFs) for each sample, as described in Sion et al. (2023). Additional requests associated with data from Sion et al. (2023) should be directed to the lead author.</p>

<p><strong>Frequency-dependent mechanical properties of the Greenland upper mantle calculated using the VBRc</strong></p> <p>Frequency-dependent mechanical properties of the upper mantle beneath Greenland inferred using three-dimensional Bayesian inference of mantle thermodynamic state using the Very Broadband Rheology calculator (VBRc). Mechanical properties include the complex modulus, apparent viscosity, maxwell time, and apparent lithosphere thickness. Formal properties collected from practical model-checking projects
<p>Since 2008, VTT has been applying model checking in practical customer projects in the Finnish nuclear and railway industries. We have collected 3923 formal properties specified and verified by VTT analysts in the those projects between the years 2014 and 2022. polyOne Data Set - 100 million hypothetical polymers including 29 properties
<p><strong>polyOne Data Set</strong></p> <p>The data set contains 100 million hypothetical polymers each with 29 predicted properties using machine learning models. We use PSMILES strings to represent polymer structures, see <a href="https://www.polymergenome.org/guide/index.php?m=3">here</a> and <a href="https://github.com/Ramprasad-Group/psmiles">here</a>. The polymers are generated by decomposing previously synthesized polymers into unique chemical fragments. Random and enumerative compositions of these fragments yield 100 million hypothetical PSMILES strings. All PSMILES strings are chemically valid polymers but, mostly, have never been synthesized before. More information can be found in the paper. Please note the license agreement in the LICENSE file.</p> <p><strong>Full data set including the properties</strong></p> <p>The data files are in Apache Parquet format. Tree growth, wood properties and saccharification traits in SwAsp Populus tremula trees grown in Ekebo Sweden
<span>Background</span> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>Wood represents the majority of the biomass on land and constitutes a renewable source of biofuels and other bioproducts. However, wood is recalcitrant to bioconversion, raising a need for feedstock improvement in production of, for instance, biofuels. We investigated the properties of wood that affect bioconversion, as well as the underlying genetics, to help identify superior tree feedstocks for biorefining. </span></p> <span>Results</span> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>We recorded 65 wood-related and growth traits in a population of 113 natural aspen genotypes from Sweden. These traits included three growth and field performance traits, 20 traits for wood chemical composition, 17 traits for wood anatomy and structure, and 25 wood saccharification traits as indicators of bioconversion potential. Glucose release after saccharification with acidic pretreatment correlated positively with tree stem height and diameter and the carbohydrate content of the wood, and negatively with the content of lignin and the hemicellulose sugar units. Most of these traits displayed extensive natural variation within the aspen population and high broad-sense heritability, supporting their potential in genetic improvement of feedstocks towards improved bioconversion. Finally, a genome wide association study (GWAS) revealed 13 genetic loci for saccharification yield (on a whole tree biomass basis), with six of them intersecting with associations for either height or stem diameter of the trees.</span></p> <span>Conclusions</span> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>The simple growth traits of stem height and diameter were identified as good predictors of wood saccharification yield in aspen trees. GWAS elucidated the underlying genetics, revealing putative <span>genetic markers for bioconversion of bioenergy tree feedstocks. </span></span></p>
Frictional Properties and Healing Behavior of Tectonic Mélanges: Implications for the Evolution of Subduction Fault Zones
<p>Here, we report data from velocity-step experiments using rocks collected from ancient subduction fault zones, the Lower Mugi and Makimine mélanges of the Cretaceous Shimanto belt. The two mélanges preserve paleotemperature records corresponding to the updip and downdip limits of the seismogenic zone and deformation recording a lower versus higher degree of pressure solution. The compostions of the mélanges analyzed with X-ray diffraction (XRD) are also included in the datasets. Our data show that the Lower Mugi mélange sample exhibits velocity-weakening to velocity-neutral behavior under low normal stress, and the Makimine mélange sample shows velocity-strengthening behavior under high normal stress. This is consistent with the slip behavior observed at the depths they have been subducted to along the plate interface. We also perform a series of slide-hold-slide experiments under different hydrothermal conditions using the Lower Mugi mélange sample to evaluate the role of pressure solution in fault healing and its dependency on temperature. The results show that healing rates increase in tests operated at higher temperatures, which suggests the importance of pressure solution healing along plate interfaces.</p>
Spatial soil properties maps for Switzerland at 30 m resolution
<p>The Swiss Soil Property Map (SSPM) was developed using the quantile random forest machine learning algorithm and remotely sensed surrogate information such as terrain, climate, vegetation, and soil covariates. The SSPM dataset provides maps at 30 m resolution for different soil depths (0, 30, 60, and 100 cm) in GeoTIFF format. The mean and respective uncertainty information is provided for each map. Dataset: Scatter of mechanical properties of 2D biaxial and triaxial braided reinforced composites and their correlation with visual features
<p>The data represents tensile tests of 2D braided biaxial and triaxial composite laminates. Braids were produced on a Herzog radial braiding machine RF 1-176-100 with carbon fiber yarns (Toho Tenax F13 HTS40 12K 800 tex). Test laminates are infused with a VARI process with the 2-component epoxy resin system Hexion RIM235/RIMH237. The infusion is performed at vacuum pressure leves of 20-30 mbar and the resin is cured at room temperature for 24 hours at a pressure level of 250 mbar. A subsequent post-cure step maximizes matrix properties at 70°C for 10 hours.<br> The braid setups have been chosen to achieve four different braids with a fiber angle of 45° on braid mandrels with a diameter of 120 mm, two biaxial ones and two triaxial ones. By using different sizes of braiding ring diameters and yarn forces, homogeneous and inhomogeneous fiber architectures are generated.<br> Braiding setups 1 (biaxial) and 2 (triaxial) with 130 mm braiding ring diameter and 350 g yarn force result in braids with homogeneous fiber architecture. 3 (biaxial, 400 mm braiding ring, 600 g yarn force) and 4 (triaxial, 250 mm braiding ring, 600 g yarn force) in braids with inhomogeneous scattering of visual characteristics. Single layers are braided on mandrels with a length of 1500 mm and laminates with 6 layers of biaxial and 4 layers of triaxial braids are subsequently infused.<br> Tensile tests are performed on a Schenck-Trebel RM250 universal testing machine according to AITM 1-0007. For each specimen, the individual fiber orientation in each layer is measured prior to infusion by image analysis performed on scans of the braided layers. The results show a strong dependence of the individual fiber orientation of single test specimens on their mechanical properties in case of the presented tensile tests</p>

Properties of binary systems in a one-dimensional approximation
<p>We present numerically obtained tables of properties of stars in a binary system as a function of the effective potential: volume-equivalent radii of the equipotential surfaces, effective accelerations averaged over the same equipotential surfaces and the properties of the L<sub>1</sub> plane cross-sections. The tables are obtained for binaries where the ratios of the primary star mass to the companion star mass are from 10<sup>-6</sup> to 10<sup>5</sup> and include equipotential surfaces up to the star's outer Lagrangian point. Effects of plant traits and ecosystem properties on wave attenuation and soil carbon content
<p><span>Understanding</span><span> the</span><span> relationships among the environment, species traits and ecosystem properties is important </span><span>for developing</span><span> management measures </span><span>that optimize</span><span> the delivery of ecosystem services (</span><span>ESs</span><span>). Here, we identify the most important relationships responsible for the delivery of two key </span><span>ESs</span><span> provided by tidal marshes: (1) nature-based shoreline protection through wave attenuation and (2) mitigation of climate change through soil carbon storage. In two tidal zones below and above the mean high water (MHW, Elbe Estuary, Germany) level, we measured environmental parameters, such as soil salinity and inundation, as well as plant traits representing adaptations to hydrodynamic stress and strongly influencing decomposition rates.</span></p> <p><span>Multiple linear regression</span> <span>results showed that wave attenuation rates were positively related to aboveground community biomass and stem bending resistance, and soil organic carbon was positively related to stem-specific density (below the MHW level). In the tidal zone above the MHW level, soil carbon density was governed by inundation duration and decomposition rates.</span></p> <p><span>Our study highlights that (1) ES</span> <span>delivery is not equally spread across tidal marshes and (2) ecosystem management should stimulate the development and persistence of habitat diversity (here</span><span>,</span><span> low and high marsh zones)</span> <span>to maximize ES delivery potential. Securing the delivery of the two studied ESs under climate change will depend on providing suitable (</span><span>landward</span><span>) space to sustain the functioning of the two marsh zones. In the studied marshes, these services are highly dependent on a few species (i.e., wave attenuation on <em>Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani</em> and <em>Bolboschoenus maritimus</em> and carbon storage on <em>Phragmites australis</em>)</span><span>,</span><span> and as such</span><span>,</span><span> current and future ESs strongly depend on specific species' responses to changing environmental conditions.</span></p>
