Lake Fryxell continuous benthic dissolved oxygen and temperature measurements, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica, November 2023 to December 2024
To examine benthic dissolved oxygen (DO) dynamics in Lake Fryxell, located in the McMurdo Dry Valleys region of Antarctica, DO and temperature were continuously measured near the sediment–water interface at ~8.8 m depth from November 2023 to December 2024. A PME miniDOT® logger was deployed on the lake floor at 8.82 m depth, recording every 15 minutes from 9 November 2023 to 16 December 2024. An Onset HOBO® DO logger, buoyed slightly above the sediment at 8.80 m depth, recorded at the same 15-minute interval from 9 November 2023 to 6 August 2024. The shorter deployment period reflects the six-month lifespan of the HOBO optical sensor.
CO Emissions inferred from Surface CO Observations over China in December 2013 and 2017
<p><strong>CO_obs.rar</strong> includes assimilation observations for 2013 and 2017, independent verification observations for 2014, 2017 and 2018. NCP, YRD, and PRD represent the North China Plain, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Pearl River Delta, respectively.</p> <p><strong>emission_36km_2012.nc</strong> and <strong>emission_36km_2016.nc</strong> are prior emissions, <strong>emission_36km_2013.nc</strong> and <strong>emission_36km_2017.nc</strong> are posterior emissions inferred with default 40% uncertainty setting. <strong>emission_36km_20.nc</strong> and <strong>emission_36km_60.nc</strong> are posterior emissions inferred with 20% and 60% uncertainty setting, respectively, which are used for sensitivity test. <strong>emission_36km_nosuper.nc</strong> is posterior emissions inferred without ‘super observation’ method. These files have dimensions of 39 VAR×123 RAW×163 COL and the third variable is CO.</p>
Multi-thousand-year simulations of December-February precipitation and zonal upper-level wind
<p>This dataset contains multi-thousand-year ensemble simulations of wintertime (December-February) precipitation total and average zonal winds at 250 hPa and 850 hPa. It includes data in a present-day scenario (2006-2015) and two future scenarios within which the world would be 1.5°C and 2.0°C warmer than pre-industrial conditions in 1850-1900. The simulations were run through the global model of the atmosphere and land surface HadAM4 (Williams et al., 2003) with a horizontal resolution of 5/6°x5/9° (approximately 60km in middle latitudes) and 38 vertical levels and a large ensemble. Following the HAPPI experiment design described by Mitchell et al. (2017), simulations were driven by prescribed fields of sea ice concentration, sea surface temperature, and atmospheric gas concentrations. The prescribed fields are observations for the present-day scenario. For future simulations, the prescribed fields were modified based on changes derived from CMIP5 multi-model means. The different realisations of the large ensemble were obtained through perturbing the initial conditions of each ensemble member on November 1st. For more details, see the description in Watson et al. (2020), who present the dataset, and in Bevacqua et al. (2021) where the dataset was used to study the spatial footprint of wintertime precipitation extremes.</p> <p><strong>IMPORTANT</strong>: Note that a small fraction of the ensemble members is repeated in the dataset. Duplicates should be identified (for example, via the function duplicated() in the R software) and removed prior to any analysis. </p>
2017 December California Wildfires Evacuation Survey Data
<p>Following the December Southern California Wildfires in 2017, an online survey was distributed by researchers from the University of California, Berkeley to collect information on the individual choices of those impacted by the fires in California. Collected from March to July 2018, the data includes questions regarding risk perceptions, communications, evacuation decisions, potential usage of the sharing economy in disasters, opinions of evacuation management, and demographic information. The survey was distributed with the assistance of local partners (i.e., transportation agencies, emergency management agencies, local city and county governments, CBOs, and news outlets). Partners were allowed to post the survey using electronic communication methods including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, agency websites, news websites, email listservs, and alert subscription services. The survey received 552 valid responses, of which 303 were completed. Subsequent papers using this data retained 226 cleaned survey responses for discrete choice modeling, based on the respondents' completion of key choice and demographic questions. The survey was incentivized with the chance to win one of five $200 gift cards. Results from the RDM Survey - LEARN project (December 2016)
<p>Data obtained from the open survey developed by the LEARN project (http://www.learn-rdm.eu/) as a self-assessment tool to assist institutions discover how ready they are for managing research data. This dataset replaces the first one published at http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.61903. The survey is based on the issues posed to institutions by the LERU Roadmap for Research Data published at the end of 2013, and available at: http://www.learn-rdm.eu/material/leru_roadmap_for_research_data<br> The survey has thirteen questions addressing the main elements to be taken into account in developing an institutional strategy for research data management. Each question has three possible answers representing green, yellow or red light. <p>On 20th December 2015 a construction waste deposit in Shenzhen failed and slid down the hill. It partially destroyed and buried an industrial building and worker living area. December 2021 Eclipse Monitoring of WWV at 5 MHz and 10 MHz by K1FR Using FlexRadio 6700/GPSDO and fldigi
<p>This dataset contains observations of WWV at 5 and 10 MHz gathered from December 1 through 10, 2021 as part of the study of the effects of solar eclipses on the ionosphere. The data was collected by amateur radio station K1FR located at 38.828, -77.104 using a FlexRadio 6700 with GPSDO connected to a long wire antenna. The fldigi application was used to analyze and record the received frequency of the WWV station at one second intervals. The dataset includes .CSV files of these measurements.</p> <p>Three independent receivers were created within the 6700 - one for 5 MHz and two for 10 MHz. The first two receivers' data are included in this dataset. Files named analysis_xxxxx-K1FR-1 are for 10 MHz, and those named analysis_xxxxx-K1FR-2 are for 5 MHz. The third independent receiver was used to capture realtime audio from WWV at 10MHz which will be included in a separate dataset.</p>
December 2021 Eclipse Monitoring of WWV at 10 MHz by K1FR Using FlexRadio 6700/GPSDO and Audacity
<p>This dataset contains observations of WWV 10 MHz gathered from December 1 through 10, 2021 as part of the study of the effects of solar eclipses on the ionosphere. The data was collected by amateur radio station K1FR located at 38.828, -77.104 using a FlexRadio 6700 with GPSDO connected to a long wire antenna. The Audacity application was used to record the realtime audio of the receiver which was in the USB mode and tuned to 9999.000 kHz thus producing a 1000 hz tone at the carrier frequency of WWV. The AGC on the receiver was set to “ON-medium.” <strong>PLEASE NOTE:</strong> due to operator error, the metadata in the Audacity generated .WAV files show that the AGC was “OFF”.</p> <p>See DOI 10.5281/zenodo.5775043 for data taken via the fldigi application on the same audio stream simultaneously. That dataset has .CSV files of the apparent doppler of WWV 10 MHz, and these files are named “analysis_xxxxx_K1FR-1.CSV.</p>
Sea ice satellite and model data between October 2014 and December 2015
<p>These images contain monthly averages for Arctic sea ice concentration and thickness between October 2010 and December 2015 from two simulations, one with the TOPAZ4 ocean-sea ice data assimilation system (Sakov et al., 2012 and https://resources.marine.copernicus.eu/?option=com_csw&view=details&product_id=ARCTIC_REANALYSIS_PHYS_002_003) and another with the S4K Arctic regional model. Image names are self-explanatory. Images with S4K results include a rectangle delimiting S4K domain, inserted in the larger TOPAZ4 domain. This was done to emphasize the transition between the two models, where the latter provides the boundary conditions to the former. </p> <p> </p>

Airborne radar observation dataset of sea surface height on 8 December 2016
<p>This dataset contains the results of time-series sea surface height (SSH) observation data of flight No.1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8 on 8 December 2016 by airborne altimeter measurement using a frequency modulated continuous wave (FM-CW) radar. The observation flight were carried out south of Japan passed over the Kuroshio Current. The data files are written in CSV format, the columns are UTC date, time, latitude, longitude, flight altitude, observed SSH, 1 min moving averaged SSH values, geoid height, and tide height. The geoid height and the tide height are derived by the EGM 2008 model (Pavlis et al. 2012) and the Nao.99Jb model (Matsumoto et al. 2000), respectively. The original data sampling rate of 800 microseconds is resampled by 80 milliseconds in each file. The data comes from a paper under review for Geophysical Research Letter.</p>
Ryanair: All december flight departures from Spain and their average prices
<p>In this dataset, we collected the average prices of all flight departures in Spain projected in December by Ryanair. Although we are uploading only raw data, this dataset can be useful to study the connectivity of Spain, and its accessibility by the people (comparing frequencies and prices in different airports).</p> <p>We searched for the December period to focus on the relative fluctuations of prices in holidays versus the rest of the month. Also, the prices may change between holidays lengths in days, and the day of departure. Specifically, we searched for 2 to 4 days of vacation, and departures from Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We only searched for the average prices of two adults because Ryanair prices are averages per person.</p> <p>All in all, this dataset has 11 attributes and 9794 rows.</p>
Changing social contact patterns among US workers during the COVID-19 pandemic: April 2020 to December 2021
<p>These are data from the CorporateMix US study rounds 1-4. Below is a description of the files:</p> <p>1. participants: this contains a list of all the study participants for each round. EaA unique participant identified by the participant_id and round.</p> <p>2. contacts: this contains the individuals with whom a participant had a contact.</p> <p>3.df_all: this is generated by merging the participant and contacts dataframes using the participant_id and round as primary keys.</p> <p>4. day_rd1: this is data for round 1 day of survey. The survey design for round 1 was different, so these data are important to distinguish between day 1 and day 2 contacts.</p>
Timeline of government interventions and events regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden December 31, 2019, to May 5, 2023.
<p>The Swedish approach to managing the COVID-19 pandemic has received significant attention in international scholarly work and the press. For this dataset, we have reviewed governmental and media archives to build a detailed timeline that chronicles significant policies, interventions, and events in the Swedish management of COVID-19. The dataset contains summary descriptions of what took place, when it happened, and who the principal actors involved were. Links to primary sources are provided for each entry. Because of the level of detail and saturation, the dataset offers a detailed account of Swedish pandemic governance and will benefit anyone working on Swedish pandemic management or doing comparative work between Sweden and other jurisdictions.</p> <p>The dataset contains details on the date an event took place (column 1), tags to facilitate navigation (column 2), details on the principal actors involved in the event (column 3), a summary description of what took place and who was involved (column 4), and links to primary materials (e.g., archival entries) (columns 4-12). Through a structured and detailed outline, the dataset provides a saturated account of policy interventions and events in Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic for the period 2020-2023 until it was no longer considered a public health emergency of international concern by the WHO and complements existing and less detailed timelines published at earlier points in the period.</p>
Simulated tracks and associated melting of 6912 small to giant Antarctic icebergs, September 1997 to December 2008
<p>We present a dataset of Antarctic iceberg drift tracks and melting that includes small, medium-sized, and giant tabular icebergs with a realistic size distribution. An iceberg model is initialized with 6912 observed iceberg positions and sizes around Antarctica. The dataset is the result of a 2017 study "A simulation of small to giant Antarctic iceberg evolution: Differential impact on climatology estimates" published in JGR:Oceans (<a href="https://doi.org/10.1002/2016JC012513">https://doi.org/10.1002/2016JC012513</a>).</p> <p>We simulate drift and lateral melt using iceberg-draft averaged ocean currents, temperature, and salinity. A new basal melting scheme, originally applied in ice shelf melting studies, uses in situ temperature, salinity, and relative velocities at an iceberg's bottom. Climatology estimates of Antarctic iceberg melting based on simulations of small (≤2.2 km), “small-to-medium-sized" (≤10 km), and small-to-giant icebergs (including icebergs >10 km) exhibit differential characteristics: successive inclusion of larger icebergs leads to a reduced seasonality of the iceberg meltwater flux and a shift of the mass input to the area north of 58°S, while less meltwater is released into the coastal areas. This suggests that estimates of meltwater input solely based on the simulation of small icebergs introduce a systematic meridional bias; they underestimate the northward mass transport and are, thus, closer to the rather crude treatment of iceberg melting as coastal runoff in models without an interactive iceberg model. Future ocean simulations will benefit from the improved meridional distribution of iceberg melt, especially in climate change scenarios where the impact of iceberg melt is likely to increase due to increased calving from the Antarctic ice sheet.</p> <p> </p>

High-frequency sensor data from a YSI 600 OMS Optical Monitoring System (every 15 minutes) and Sontek IQ (every 10 minutes) in a meadow reach at White Clay Creek from February through December 2016. Funded by NSF and DEB as part of the LTREB grant to study the recovery of stream ecosystem structure and function during reforestation, Stroud Water Research Center. The parameters in this data package are water temperature, depth, turbidity, conductivity, specific conductance, water pressure, discharge, rivers ection area, and velocity. Data are presented in four tables which likely have significant overlap. The raw data table presents the data exactly as it was downloaded from the Aquarius Database. It is formatted as a "wide" human-readable table. IQ_stream and YSI_stream present only the data from the respective sensors. These tables are gapfilled so that there are no time gaps. Formatted as a "wide" human-readable table. The full_stream table is all of the data, raw and cleaned, from both sensors. It is organized as a long, tidy table and is optimal for machine readability. All of the parameters and table are further explained in the metadata.
