Lesingey Round: digital surface model

Lesingey Round is a hillfort near Penzance in Cornwall, and likely dates to the Iron Age. The monument consists of a roughly circular enclosure surrounded by ramparts with a ditch on the outside. From the partially buried ditch, the ramparts stand over 4.5m high in places. In other areas the ramparts have been damaged. The site sits atop a prominent hill with panoramic views, and is covered by a 'crown' of trees that cover the site. In this model the trees have been digitally removed to allow for a different understanding of the site. This 3D survey was undertaken by the [Curatorial Research Centre](https://curatorialresearch.com) on behalf of Penwith Landscape Partnership (PLP). The site is owned and maintained by the [Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network](https://cornishancientsites.com/) (CASPN). Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Twmbarlwm Hillfort & Motte Digital Surface Model

Twmbarlwm (the bare-topped hill) is located at the southern end of the Mynydd Henllys ridge. It overlooks the Ebbw Valley and Risca in South Wales and has panoramic views in all directions. This is the digital surface model version of the drone derived data. The photo-realistic model with detailed annotations of features can be seen here https://skfb.ly/6yyxW The contrast and lighting in this model has been optimized to show the detail of the hillfort defences, the gaps in the hillfort defences which are later breaches through the rampart and the unfinished southern rampart which displays quarry hollows and dumps of spoil. Also visible are the fine parallel stripes in the southern half of the hillfort of plough grooves for undated possible tree or crop planting. The Norman period (late 11th c. AD) motte castle mound lies at the eastern end of the hillfort. Visit the Twmbarlwm Society webpage http://www.twmbarlwm.co.uk/ Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Data for: Information accessibility, accounting manipulation, and sustainable development of digital enterprises: Based on double moderating effect model and panel PSM-DID method

A theoretical mechanism was analyzed from the micro perspective of the enterprise to explore how information accessibility moderates the effect of accounting manipulation on the sustainable development of digital enterprises. Using data from 1200 listing digital enterprises in China and the DEA-Malmquist index method, the efficiency value of digital enterprises in 2007–2021 was estimated to represent the index of sustainable development of digital enterprises. The accounting manipulation was detected using the panel PSM-DID method based on the Administrative Measures for the Recognition of High-tech Enterprise's policy. The information accessibility value was estimated based on the MDA method. Empirical studies were conducted using text analysis, the panel PSM-DID method, and the double moderating effect model. The results showed that: (1) Accounting manipulation had a negative impact on the sustainable development of "true" digital enterprises and the "fake" digital enterprises; (2) Information accessibility directly and positively enhanced the technological progress and scale efficiency of digital enterprises, and its moderating effect was heterogeneous, with a significant moderating effect on the "true" digital enterprises and a negative effect on the "fake" ones.

Data from: Human face-off: a new method for mapping evolutionary rates on three-dimensional digital models

Modern phylogenetic comparative methods allow estimating evolutionary rates of phenotypic change, how these rates differ across clades, and assessing whether the rate remained constant over time. Unfortunately, currently available phylogenetic comparative tools express the rate in terms of a scalar dimension, hence they do not allow us to determine rate variations among different parts of a single, complex phenotype, or charting of realized rate variation directly onto the phenotype. Herein, we present a new method which allows the mapping of evolutionary rate variation directly on three-dimensional phenotypes, informing on the direction and magnitude of trait change automatically.

This new method, implemented by the function rate.map embedded in the R package 'RRphylo', is based on phylogenetic ridge regression rate estimates. Since the latter represent ridge regression slopes, they possess sign and magnitude. In 'RRphylo', different rates are calculated for different districts of the phenotype, which can then be visualized directly onto the phenotype itself. We present the application of rate.map to the evolution of facial skeleton in Hominoidea (the clade including living and fossil apes), the primate clade inclusive of Homo and the greater apes. We found that the highly derived, unique shape of the face in modern humans evolved through rapid phenotypic changes affecting the nasal bones, the brow ridge and the maxillary region. The canine fossa, a facial feature unique to Homo sapiens, did not belong to a region of rapid phenotypic change, and could be seen as the by-product of midface evolution as suggested by previous studies.

Data from: a physics-based digital twin for model predictive control of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle landing

This paper proposes a two-level, data-driven, digital twin concept for the autonomous landing of aircraft, under some assumptions. It features a digital twin instance for model predictive control; and an innovative, real-time, digital twin prototype for fluid-structure interaction and flight dynamics to inform it. The latter digital twin is based on the linearization about a pre-designed glideslope trajectory of a high-fidelity, viscous, nonlinear computational model for flight dynamics; and its projection onto a low-dimensional approximation subspace to achieve real-time performance, while maintaining accuracy. Its main purpose is to predict in real-time, during flight, the state of an aircraft and the aerodynamic forces and moments acting on it. Unlike static lookup tables or regression-based surrogate models based on steady-state wind tunnel data, the aforementioned real-time digital twin prototype allows the digital twin instance for model predictive control to be informed by a truly dynamic flight model, rather than a less accurate set of steady-state aerodynamic force and moment data points. The paper describes in detail the construction of the proposed two-level digital twin concept and its verification by numerical simulation. It also reports on its preliminary flight validation in autonomous mode for an off-the-shelf unmanned aerial vehicle instrumented at Stanford University.

1-km bed topography digital elevation model (DEM) of the Weddell Sea sector, West Antarctica

We present a new bed elevation digital elevation model (DEM) of the Weddell Sea sector, West Antarctica. The DEM consists a total area of ~125,000 km2 covering the Institute, Möller and Foundation ice streams and the Bungenstock Ice Rise with a 1 km spatial resolution.

In order to produce the bed elevation DEM, ice thickness DEM was formed from the available radio-echo sounding (RES) data using the 'Topo to Raster' function in ArcGIS. The RES data used in this study were compiled from four main sources which are (1) Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) survey collected during several campaigns in the 1970s (Drewry, 1983), (2) British Antarctic Survey (BAS) airborne radar survey conducted during the austal summer 2006/07 (GRADES/IMAGE) (Ashmore et al., 2014). , (3) BAS airborne survey accomplished during the Institute and Möller Antarctic Funding Initiative (IMAFI) in 2010/2011 (Ross et al., 2012) and (4) Center for the Remote Sensing of Ice Sheet (CReSIS) data during the NASA Operation IceBridge (OIB) programme in 2012, 2014 and 2016 (Gogineni, 2012). The ice thickness picks were gridded at a uniform 1-km spacing using the Nearest Neighbour interpolation within the Topo to Raster. The ice thickness DEM was later subtracted from the 1-km ice-sheet surface elevation derived from the combined European Remote Sensing Satellite-1 (ERS-1) radar and Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) laser satellite altimetry DEM (Bamber et al., 2009), to produce the bed topography referenced to the Polar Stereographic projection (Snyder, 1987).

Pléiades Digital Elevation Models of South Lhonak Lake (Sikkim, India)

Data and methods

On 3 October 2023, the collapse of a frozen lateral moraine into South Lhonak Lake triggered a multi-hazard cascade in the Sikkim Himalaya, India (Sattar et al, 2025). This repository contains two DEMs derived from Pléiades satellite images that were acquired before and after the event.

A post-event DEM computed from a pair of PHR1A stereoscopic images acquired on 2023-10-29 (20231029.tif)

A pre-event DEM computed from a triplet of PHR1A stereoscopic images acquired on 2022-10-18 (20221018.tif)

The DEMs (height above the WGS84 ellipsoid) were posted at 1.0 m with UTM 45N projection (EPSG:32645) and coregistered to the GLO30 Copernicus DEM. They were computed with the MicMac software in the DSM-OPT service using the following configuration: correlation window size: 3x3, regularization factor: 0.05, vertical uncertainty: 0.1, potential accuracy threshold: 0.4 (Rupnik et al. 2017).

These DEMs allow the analysis of topographic changes in the lake area. We included examples of such analysis with the addition of the High Mountain Asia 8 m DEM (Shean 2017).

Acknowledgements

Pléiades images were acquired and processed thanks to the CIEST2 service developed and performed with the French Space Agency (CNES) by FormaTerre, Solid Earth component of the Data Terra Research Infrastructure.

References

Sattar et al. Spot6 and Pléiades Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and elevation change grid to understand the South Lhonak lake (Sikkim) flood of October 2023

===========================

Introduction

On 3 October 2023, a multi-hazard cascade in the Sikkim Himalaya, India, was triggered by the collapse of a frozen lateral moraine into South Lhonak Lake

We share here the SPOT6 and Pléiades DEMs and the elevation change maps derived from these images. The collection includes four files:

Two pre-event DEMs from SPOT6

2018-12-01_Lhonak_DEM_SGM_4m_on_Cop30_BiasCorr_NoData_aligned.tif

2018-12-08_Lhonak_DEM_SGM_4m_on_Cop30_BiasCorr_NoData_aligned.tif

One post-event mosaic DEM from Pléiades

Post-Event_DEM_SGM_october2023.tif

One grid of elevation change from 2018 to 2023

dh_mosaic_Lhonak_SGM_median.tif

===========================

Methods

The SPOT6 and Pléiades stereo-images were processed using the Ames Stereo Pipeline (ASP, Beyer et al., 2018), yielding a DEM in 4x4 m GSD. The processing was done using as only input the stereo-images and their orientation information, as Rational Polynomial Coefficients (RPCs). The parallel_stereo routine performs all the steps needed in the correlation of the stereo-images, yielding a pointcloud which is then interpolated using the routine point2dem. Survey - Business Model Innovations in the Digital Publishing Industry: A Question of reluctance to innovate?

News Publishers today struggle with their business model: their efforts to convert their traditional business into digital products have generally proven to be futile. In order to explore a possible reluctance to innovate in the digital news publishing industry, in our study we are focusing on the Digital News Initiative (DNI) which is a partnership between Google and news publishers across Europe to support high-quality journalism through technology and foster innovation. Founded in 2015, the DNI has already funded over 460 projects across Europe with €94m. In our study we will deep dive into these projects by categorizing the type of innovation in a simple document analysis. Afterwards we will conduct a explorative survey with publishers. This will help us finding out whether they also dealt with a reluctance to innovate within their organization, what the main obstacles have been during their innovation process and how they have overcome them. The explorative results are not only valid for publishers but can also be transferred to other industries whose products and services are affected by digitalization.

Anonymus survey with 31 full answers from publishers in the DACH Region conducted with LimeSurvey in March 2018.
