Governments have been benchmarking their OGD initiatives across standard indices like ODIN, OKFN, Open Data Barometer, etc. (Lnenicka et al., 2022; Lnenicka and Nikiforova, 2021) and ample research exists on assessing the quality of OGD portals from the demand (i.e. the governments&rsquo; efforts at maintaining the quality of datasets) and supply (i.e. the perceptions of users regarding the quality of datasets) side (Crusoe et al., 2019; de Souza et al., 2022; Islam et al., 2021; Kaasenbrood et al., 2015; Khurshid et al., 2022; Lnenicka et al., 2022; Purwanto et al., 2020; Saxena and Janssen, 2017; Shehata and Elgllab, 2021; Talukder et al., 2019; Weerakkody et al., 2017; Wirtz et al., 2016; Wirtz et al., 2018; Wirtz et al., 2019; Zuiderwijk et al., 2015). Given the magnitude of academic interest on OGD- especially in the last 10 years- it remains to be assessed as to how far has the domain progressed in the academic environs and surprisingly, no research has been conducted to elucidate the infusion of this very significant domain- that is relatable to the extent to which the governments are forwarding their claims regarding the furtherance of transparent and corruption-free administration apart from bolstering citizen participation, collaboration and trust (Gil-Garcia et al., 2020; Hellberg and Hedstrom, 2015) besides serving as a means for value creation and innovation by a range of stakeholders (Jetzek et al., 2012; Jetzek et al., 2014) - in the diverse platforms that are meant for furthering academic dialogue and discussion.</p>

CAP LTER scientists are studying the impact of this urbanization on bird communities. o Which birds are living in the Phoenix metropolitan area? o Which landscape designs attract which types of birds? o Are there different kinds of birds in different urban landscapes (residential, commercial, parks)? To answer these questions ecologists are conducting surveys of bird populations throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. Your school can be part of this process by conducting your own bird surveys within your school yard and sending that information to scientists at ASU.

Many trees are uniquely adapted to living here and they are part of food webs that include animals and insects also are adapted to desert living. Phoenix is an expanding urban area located within the Sonoran Desert. One Sonoran Desert plant that has found its way into urban landscapes is the palo verde tree. In the desert, this tree supports a community of animals including bruchid beetles. These insects lay their eggs on palo verde seedpods and the larvae feed on the seeds. The interactions between plants and animals can provide vital information on the health of an ecosystem. Ecologists are interested in determining whether the interactions between urban Palo Verde Trees and bruchid beetles is similar or different than their interactions in undisturbed Sonoran Desert communities. You can provide important data by investigating the palo verde trees and bruchid beetle populations in your schoolyard.

The Sonoran Desert has the most diverse native plant species of any desert in the world. Many plants are uniquely adapted to living here and they are part of food webs that include animals and insects that also are adapted to desert living. Phoenix is an ever-expanding urban area located within the Sonoran Desert. Scientists are studying the impact of this urbanization on plant communities. Over the past 100 years, people have removed a lot of native vegetation and planted nonnative plants, trees, and shrubs. But there are still some desert remnants – areas that have been preserved as Sonoran Desert landscape – within the Phoenix metropolitan area. CAP LTER scientists are conducting plant surveys across the Phoenix Metropolitan area. They will be comparing the survey results to studies done 20 years ago. They also are interested in comparing vegetation in desert remnants to that in residential areas, parks, golf courses and vacant lots. You can participate in this study by comparing schoolyard and/or backyard data to desert remnant data and sharing this informationwith CAP LTER scientists. You may also decide to correlate your vegetation studies with the LTER Ecology Explorers’ bird and insect studies.

We also recorded whether the institution offered local high performance computing facilities. Data from: A controlled quasi-experimental study of an educational intervention to reduce the unnecessary use of antimicrobials for asymptomatic bacteriuria

Background: Asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU) should only be treated in cases of pregnancy or in-patients undergoing urologic procedures; however, unnecessary treatment of ABU is common in clinical practice. Objective: To identify risk factors for unnecessary treatment and to assess the impact of an educational intervention focused on these risk factors on treatment of ABU. Design: Quasi-experimental study with a control group. Setting: Two tertiary teaching adult care hospitals. Participants: Consecutive patients with positive urine cultures between January 30th and April 17th, 2012 (baseline) and January 30th and April 30th, 2013 (intervention). Intervention: In January 2013, a multifaceted educational intervention based on risk factors identified during the baseline period was provided to medical residents (monthly) on one clinical teaching unit (CTU) at one hospital site, with the CTU of the other hospital serving as the control. Results: During the baseline period, 160/341 (46.9%) positive urine cultures were obtained from asymptomatic patients at the two hospitals, and 94/160 (58.8%) were inappropriately treated with antibiotics. Risk factors for inappropriate use included: female gender (OR 2.1, 95% CI 1.1-4.3), absence of a catheter (OR 2.5, 1.2-5), bacteriuria versus candiduria (OR 10.6, 3.8-29.4), pyuria (OR 2.0, 1.1-3.8), and positive nitrites (OR 2.2, 1.1-4.5). In 2013, only 2/24 (8%) of ABU patients were inappropriately treated on the intervention CTU as compared to 14/29 (52%) on the control CTU (OR 0.10; 95% CI 0.02-0.49). A reduction was also observed as compared to baseline on the intervention CTU (OR 0.1, 0.02-0.7) with no significant change noted on the control CTU (OR 0.47, 0.13-1.7). Conclusions: A multifaceted educational intervention geared towards medical residents with a focus on identified risk factors for inappropriate management of ABU was effective in reducing unnecessary antibiotic use.

Data from: Children in the Syrian civil war: the familial, educational, and public health impact of ongoing violence

The Syrian civil war since 2011 has led to one of the most complex humanitarian emergencies in history. The objective of this study was to document the impact of the conflict on the familial, educational, and public health state of Syrian children. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in May 2015. Health care workers visited families with a prospectively designed data sheet in 4 Northern Syrian governorates. The 1001 children included in this study originated from Aleppo (41%), Idleb (36%), Hamah (15%), and Lattakia (8%). The children's median age was 6 years (range, 0-15 years; interquartile range, 3-11 years), and 61% were boys. Almost 20% of the children were internally displaced, and 5% had deceased or missing parents. Children lacked access to safe drinking water (15%), appropriate sanitation (23%), healthy nutrition (16%), and pediatric health care providers (64%). Vaccination was inadequate in 72%. More than half of school-aged children had no access to education. Children in Idleb and Lattakia were at greater risk of having unmet public health needs. Younger children were at greater risk of having an incomplete vaccination state. After 4 years of civil war in Syria, children have lost parents, live in substandard life quality circumstances, and are at risk for outbreaks because of worsening vaccination states and insufficient availability of health care providers.
