Fig. 2. Jeune reine de Bombus distinguendus se nourrissant de nectar. L'espèce se reconnaît à sa pilosité majoritairement jaune-orange (abdomen, thorax et face), interrompue par une large bande noire au milieu du thorax. La pilosité des pattes est entièrement noire, ce qui permet de facilement séparer l'espèce de B. mesomelas, un bourdon aussi présent dans la région. Les mâles ressemblent fortement à ceux de B. subterraneus et sont de ce fait plus difficiles à identifier sur le terrain. Leur pilosité est cependant plutôt orange alors qu'elle est plutôt jaunâtre chez B. subterraneus.
