LG-covid19-HOTP: Literature Graph of Scholarly Articles Relevant to COVID-19 Study

Parallel to the dataset CORD-19 of scholarly articles, we provide the literature graph LG-covid19-HOTP composed of not only articles (graph nodes) that are relevant to the study of coronavirus, but also in and out citation links (directed graph edges) to base navigation and search among the articles. The article records are related and connected, not isolated. The graph has been updated weekly since March 26, 2020. The current graph includes 42,279 hot-off-the-press (HOTP) articles since January 2020. It contains 485,097 articles and 4,259,944 links. The link-to-node ratio is remarkably higher than some other existing literature graphs. In addition to the dataset we provide more functionalities at lg-covid-19-hotp.cs.duke.edu such as new articles, weekly meta-data analysis in terms of publication growth over time, ranking by citation, and statistical near-neighbor embedding maps by similarity in co-citation, and similarity in co-reference. Since April 11, we have enabled a novel functionality - self-navigated surf-search over the maps. At the site we also take courtesy input of COVID-19 articles that are missing from the current collection.

Research integrity in instructions for authors in Japanese medical journals using ICMJE recommendations: A descriptive literature study

The goals of this project were to compare research integrity content in Instructions for Authors in ICMJE member journals with those in the English- and Japanese-language journals of the Japanese Association of Medical Sciences (JAMS).

Therefore, this dataset contents include the following three categories: 1) journals' background information, 2) description numbers of research integrity topics, and 3) journal numbers that required ICMJE description forms in ICMJE member journals, English- and Japanese-language journals.

Literature review of 406 academic articles from feminist, queer and masculinity studies (2008-2023 / Spain, Germany, Denmark, UK, Switzerland and Hungary).

Literature review of 406 academic articles from feminist, queer and masculinity studies (2008-2023) / Spain, Germany, Denmark, UK, Switzerland and Hungary

This dataset represents the extensive and comprehensive literature review of 406 research articles that were analysed through an in-depth qualitative abductive and iterative classification process. The codification covers a period of fifteen years (2008-2015) in the six countries of interest to UNTWIST (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom), with the purpose of creating a typology of Gender Based Needs (GBNs).

Due to the importance of covering the breadth of ‘needs’, the data collection was designed with the goal to reach saturation of areas and dimensions covered in each country context (see detailed explanation below). This means that the data should not be seen as representative in terms of the number of articles on each topic per country but rather as representing the total coverage of topics and approaches in feminist theory over the time.

Our codification identifies a set of needs that, while not exhaustive, are considered as indicative of important trends and needs that have emerged during this time across the six countries under investigation.

The basis of the Typology relies on insights from gender-focused research, including feminist, queer and masculinity studies. This choice was rooted in the observation that these bodies of literature have a long-standing tradition of analysing policy issues through a ‘gender lens’, thus making visible the role of gender in politics and policy and aiming to understand and explain political and social events, behaviours, and dynamics through a focus on gender. The focus of feminist research on gender as an analytical category helps us to assess how gender factors into political and social needs and demands and to identify ‘gender-based needs’ (GBNs), i.e., those needs and demands that are discussed with specific reference to gender. The theoretical assumption is here that such needs are rooted in (e.g., as the effect of certain configurations of) the social and political structures that have emerged around the social distinctions between woman/female/feminine and man/male/masculine. Based on insights on the invisible and informal nature of gender as political and social force, we further assume that their relationship with gender is often missed by those approaches that do not center a gender lens. This means that we define feminist, queer and masculinity studies as best suited to derive and assess relevant areas and types of GBNs.

The influence of a priori grouping on inference of genetic clusters: simulation study and literature review of the DAPC method
Inference of genetic clusters is a key aim of population genetics, sparking development of numerous analytical methods. Within these, there is a conceptual divide between finding de novo structure versus assessment of a priori groups. Recently developed, Discriminant Analysis of Principal Components (DAPC), combines discriminant analysis (DA) with principal component (PC) analysis. When applying DAPC, the groups used in the DA (specified a priori or described de novo) need to be carefully assessed. While DAPC has rapidly become a core technique, the sensitivity of the method to misspecification of groups and how it is being empirically applied, are unknown. To address this, we conducted a simulation study examining the influence of a priori versus de novo group designations, and a literature review of how DAPC is being applied. We found that with a priori groupings, distance between genetic clusters reflected underlying FST. However, when migration rates were high and groups were described de novo there was considerable inaccuracy, both in terms of the number of genetic clusters suggested and placement of individuals into those clusters. Nearly all (90.1%) of 224 studies surveyed used DAPC to find de novo clusters, and for the majority (62.5%) the stated goal matched the results. However, most studies (52.3%) omit key run parameters, preventing repeatability and transparency. Therefore, we present recommendations for standard reporting of parameters used in DAPC analyses. The influence of groupings in genetic clustering is not unique to DAPC, and researchers should consider their goal and which methods will be most appropriate.

Extensive literature search on glycoalkaloids and quinolizidine alkaloids - results of the selection for relevance and study characterisation

This report presents the outcome of extensive literature search on studies related to the chemistry and toxicity of glycoalkaloids and quinolizidine alkaloids in food and feed. The systematic literature search captures available scientific information published since 1950. 3,147 references were identified as potentially related to the chemistry and toxicity of glycoalkaloids in food and feed and 8,287 as potentially related to the chemistry and toxicity of quinolizidine alkaloids in food and feed. Upon screening of titles and abstracts of the candidates concerning glycoalkaloids, 1,645 were regarded as relevant, the number of included potentially relevant studies concerning quinolizidine alkaloids was 1,783. All included studies were characterised according to 10 different areas of interest of EFSA for further investigation.

Software needed to open the files: Microsoft Office - Excel; EndNote.

This upload supports the risk assessment on Quinolizidine alkaloids in food and feed: EFSA CONTAM Panel (EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain), Schrenk D, Bodin L, Chipman JK, del Mazo J, Grasl-Kraupp B, Hogstrand C, Hoogenboom LR, Leblanc J-C, Nebbia CS, Nielsen E, Ntzani E, Petersen A, Sand S, Schwerdtle T, Vleminckx C, Wallace H, Alexander J, Cottrill B, Dusemund B, Mulder P, Arcella D, Baert K, Cascio C, Steinkellner H and Bignami M, 2019.
