Data from: Detecting the effects of rapid tectonically-induced subsidence on Mayotte Island since 2018 on beach and reef morphology, and implications for coastal vulnerability to marine flooding

This dataset contains data from the monitoring morphological evolution of beaches and coral reefs in Mayotte island. Mayotte, part of the coral reef-fringed Comoro archipelago in the SW Indian Ocean, experienced in 2018 and 2019 an intense seismic crisis. The repeated earthquake activity since May 2018 has been associated with deformation of the surface of Mayotte, resulting in land subsidence.

The earlier 2006-2008 profiles were realized using a Leica TC 407® total station, and referenced to local IGN 50 benchmarks. The more recent 2019, 2020, and 2021 surveys were carried out using a GNSS differential Trimble R8S® system. Given the rapid subsidence that has affected Mayotte, the benchmarks used in this study, like others in Mayotte, need to be recalibrated by the IGN (French Institut Géographique National) and SHOM. This has still not yet been done, as the final outcome of the vertical island movements is still not clear.

Data supplementing the article "Assessing ecological status with diatoms DNA metabarcoding : scaling-up on a WFD monitoring network (Mayotte island, France)" V. Vasselon, F. Rimet, K. Tapolczai, A. Bouchez submitted to Ecological Indicators journal

These data supplement the article"Assessing ecological status with DNA metabarcoding or microscopy? Comparison using benthic diatoms in tropical rivers" V. Vasselon, F. Rimet, K. Tapolczai, A. Bouchez submitted to Ecological Indicators journal.

The directory contains the following files:

80 PGM sequencing libraries (raw data, fastq files).rar - contains the 80 fastq files provided by the sequencing platform with demultiplexed DNA reads (raw data prior any bioinformatics treatments).

80 fastq files information.xlsx - contains the information relative to the 80 samples including: the ID used in Mothur analyses (corresponding to the name of the fastq files), the sample name, the sampling site code, the name of the river, the monitoring network to which rivers belong, the year of sampling and the GPS coordinates of sampling sites.

OTU (95 percent of similarity) list of 80 Mayotte samples.xlsx - contains the final OTU list obtained after applying all the bioinformatics treatments (trimming, clustering,...): OTUs created at 95% of similarity, the number of DNA reads per sample was normalized at 5710 reads (the smallest values obtained in one sample). A DNA representative sequence and the taxonomic assignment determined using Mothur (using classify.otu command) are also provided for each OTU.

Radionuclide, organic matter, geochemical and colorimetric properties of potential source material and target sediment for conducing sediment fingerprinting approaches in the Dzoumogné reservoir, Mayotte Island, France

The current dataset was compiled to study sediment fingerprintings practices, i.e tracer selection and contribution modelling. Colorimetric properties analysed with a portable diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer (Konica Minolta CM-700d) and geochemical contents obtained with an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (ED-XRF Epsilon 4), organic matter and stable isotopes were analysed by EA-IRMS and radionuclides using coaxial N- and P- type HPGe detectors (Canberra/Ortec). These properties were analysed in potential source material that may supply sediment to the Dzoumogné reservoir, Mayotte island, France. Three potential soil source materials (n = 57) were considered: cropland (n = 29), forest (n = 13) and subsurface material originating from channel bank collapse, landslides, badlands (n = 16). A sediment core was collected in the Dzoumogné reservoir (Target) on the 8th October 2021 and 20 layers were sampled.

The current dataset comprises two Excel files including the metadata description and the data itself.
