Naval Cannon - 18th Century English Style

Leadership Styles in International Conflict Management. Action by the European Union Against Radicalization, Terrorism and Violent Extremism – Risks and Threats

<p>The article focuses on the antecedents of the emergence and management of international conflicts related to radicalization and terrorism in a European context and the interaction between leader and team. The objective of the desk research is to examine the correlation between the leadership style and the team, the leadership competencies, and to develop strategies for conflict resolution and management. It is achieved by analysing the European approach to the prevention of radicalization, terrorism and violent extremism, and exploring their positive and negative effects on a specific individual or group. The focus is on the role of leadership styles and competences at different hierarchical levels in order to achieve results and find solutions to problems. This paper presents the desk research conducted on countering radicalization and extremism.</p>

Applying Ariadne: Dataset on Learning Styles and Moodle-Based Learning Paths

<h1><em>About this repository</em></h1> <p>This dataset contains information queried from 22 students inside a Moodle based learning management system during the winter term 2023/24 at a German university.</p> <h1><em>Abstract</em></h1> <p>With the use of learning management systems students benefit from being recommended suitable learning elements based on their individual needs. In doing so, recommendation algorithms are applied which first query the student&rsquo;s learning style. To improve the recommendation of learning elements a continuous analysis of the individual&rsquo;s learning style is required. A frequent questionnaire assessment would however be too time consuming. Instead, in a prior study an algorithm has been designed to identify changes in learning styles from the student&rsquo;s selection of learning elements. In this paper, we investigate the functionality of that algorithm by applying it on real student data. In particular, we test if the algorithm correctly indicates changes in learning styles. The utilised data is collected in our learning management system. To be precise, the data is obtained from 22 students enrolled in a software engineering course during the winter term of 2023/24. The data comprises two types of information for each student: 1) learning style collected at the start and end of the term, and 2) the user&rsquo;s actual selection of learning elements inside the learning management system.<br>The uniqueness of this study lies in the data and the evaluation strategy based on it. Having the learning style at the end of the semester period as ground truth allows us to test if the algorithm operates correctly with actual user data from our learning management system. The results validate the behaviour of our algorithm, yet they strongly suggest the need for an adaptation. Data and R code from: Nature calls: intelligence and natural foraging style predict welfare problems in captive parrots

<p>Around half of all parrots (a highly threatened order) live in captivity. Here, some species thrive. Others, however, breed poorly or display stereotypic behaviours indicating stress. Using data on the prevalence of three types of stereotypic behaviour in pet (50 species; 1,378 individuals) and aviculture hatch rates (115 species; 10,255 breeding pairs), we applied Phylogenetic Comparative Methods (PCMs) to test hypothesised causes of this variation (relating to species' rarity and constraints on natural behaviour). In the first empirical evidence that high intelligence increases vulnerability to poor captive welfare, species with large relative brain sizes were found to be most at risk of oral and whole-body stereotypic behaviour. This suggests that if they are to be kept in private homes, such parrots must be offered substantially more cognitive stimulation. Self-harming behaviours involving feather damage were predicted by naturally relying on food items that require substantial handling, highlighting inadequacies in captive diets (often highly processed); while relatively low hatch rates in aviculture were predicted by small captive population sizes, potentially due to genetic bottlenecks, inbreeding, and/or low availability of compatible mates. These novel findings should help advance captive parrot husbandry, and inspire further research applying PCMs to understand and improve animal welfare.</p>

For the translation of Reddit comments into a formal language text-davinci-003 was used. To make text-davinci-003 translate the comments into a more formal version, the following prompt was used:<br> &quot;Here is some text: {original_comment} Here is a rewrite of the text, which is more neutral: {&quot;<br> This prompting technique was taken from <a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2109.03910">A Recipe For Arbitrary Text Style Transfer with Large Language Models</a>.</p> <p>The dataset contains comments from the following Subreddits: antiwork, atheism, Conservative, conspiracy, dankmemes, gaybros, leagueoflegends, lgbt, libertarian, linguistics, MensRights, news, offbeat, PoliticalCompassMemes, politics, teenagers, TrueReddit, TwoXChromosomes, wallstreetbets, worldnews.</p> <p>The quality of formal translations was assessed with BERTScore and chrF++:</p> <ul> <li>BERTScore: F1-Score: 0.89, Precision: 0.90, Recall: 0.88</li> <li>chrF++: 37.16</li> </ul> <p>The average perplexity of the generated formal texts was calculated using GPT-2 and is 123.77</p> <p><br> The dataset consists of 3 components.</p> <p><strong>reddit_commments.csv</strong></p> <p>This file contains a collection of randomly selected comments from 20 Subreddits.
