MetOp-A ASCAT Level 2 Ocean Surface Wind Vectors Optimized for Coastal Ocean
This dataset contains operational near-real-time Level 2 coastal ocean surface wind vector retrievals from the Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) on MetOp-A at 12.5 km sampling resolution (note: the effective resolution is 25 km). It is a product of the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility (OSI SAF) provided through the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). This coastal dataset differs from the standard 25 km datasets in that it utilizes a spatial box filter (rather than the Hamming filter) to generate a spatial average of the Sigma-0 retrievals from the Level 1B dataset; all full resolution Sigma-0 retrievals within a 15 km radius of the wind vector cell centroid are used in the averaging. Since the full resolution L1B Sigma-0 retrievals are used, all non-sea retrievals are discarded prior to the Sigma-0 averaging. Each box average Sigma-0 is then used to compute the wind vector cell using the same CMOD7.n geophysical model function as in the standard OSI SAF ASCAT wind vector datasets. With this enhanced coastal retrieval, winds can be computed as close to ~15 km from the coast, as compared to the static ~35 km land mask in the standard 12.5 km dataset. Each file is provided in netCDF version 3 format, and contains one full orbit derived from 3-minute orbit granules. Latency is approximately 2 hours from the latest measurement. The beginning of the orbit is defined by the first wind vector cell measurement within the first 3-minute orbit granule that starts north of the Equator in the ascending node. ASCAT is a C-band dual fan beam radar scatterometer providing two independent swaths of backscatter retrievals in sun-synchronous polar orbit aboard the MetOp-A platform. QuikSCAT Scatterometer Inter-Calibrated ESDR Level 2 Ocean Surface Equivalent Neutral Wind Vectors and Wind Stress Vectors Version 1.0
This dataset contains the first provisional release of the MEaSUREs-funded Earth Science Data Record (ESDR) of inter-calibrated ocean surface wind vectors (equivalent neutral and true 10m) and wind stress vectors derived from QuikSCAT scatterometer observations. The primary purpose of this release is for provisional evaluation by the NASA International Ocean Vector Winds Science Team (IOVWST). As such, this release is not intended for science-quality research, and is subject to future revision based on feedback provided by the IOVWST. The wind vector and stress retrievals are provided on a non-uniform grid within the swath (Level 2 (L2) products) at 12.5 km pixel resolution. Each L2 file corresponds to a specific orbital revolution (rev) number, which begins at the southernmost point of the ascending orbit.

High frequency wind recored from sonic anemometers: Impact of swell waves on atmospheric surface turbulence
<p>Wind-wave interaction affects the fluxes of exchange processes across the air-sea wavy interface. For example, several measurements and modelling experiments have suggested that during the swell waves the wind shear and veer may significantly vary (depending on thermal stratification among other environmental factors). This dataset shows interesting wave energy penetration observed from sonic anemometer mounted at an offshore met-mast at 15m height above the mean sea level. More codes will be provided in Github</p> <p>https://github.com/MostafaBakhoda/JGRL\_2022\_WindWaveDecomposition.git</p> <p>The data are used in following submitted research:</p> <p>"Impact of swell waves on atmospheric surface turbulence: A wave-turbulence decomposition method"</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
Apollo 12 Solar Wind Measurements at the Lunar Surface 1-HR Data
This data set contains hourly averaged plasma parameters from the Apollo 12 Solar Wind Spectrometer. Four sets of hourly averaged parameters are computed, using as input data -- (1) all fine-time scale parameters (FTSP), (2) all FTSP computed from spectra with small rms error on curve fitting and thermal speeds less than one-half the bulk velocity, (3) all FTSP computed from spectra that satisfy the requirements of criterion 2 as well as having only one flow angle that can be directly measured, and (4) all FTSP computed from spectra that satisfy the requirements of criterion 2 as well as having both flow angles directly measureable. Contained in each of the 4 sets of averages are the proton density, alpha-to-proton ratio, bulk speed, angle of flow, number of spectra, and rms deviations of each average.

Apollo 15 Solar Wind Measurements at the Lunar Surface 28-s Data
This data set contains the highest time resolution plasma data available (28 sec per spectrum) from the solar wind experiment onboard Apollo 15. Contained in each record are: time, proton density, alpha-to-proton ratio, bulk speed, angle of flow, most probable thermal speed, and various housekeeping and fit parameters relating to the reliability of the calculated plasma parameters. During the local lunar night there is no solar wind signal so there are data gaps of about 15 days each lunation.

Near-surface model wind
<p>Near surface u and v wind, from Unified Model nesting suite u-ct753. Data is for 20200701-20200704 at hourly intervals. Data is on a dx=dy=1.5 km grid. Using a rotated coordinate system. The central latitude and longitude of each limited area model (LAM) is given in the .dat file. Map of locations is in .png file. Land-sea mas for each domain is in .maskfiles. This data is intended for looking at near-surface wind over the sea, so only LAMs minaly over the sea have their u and v wind uploaded.</p>
