Audiovisual recordings of acted casual conversations between four speakers in German

<p>This dataset was used in a study by Hendrikse et al. (2018). It contains 7 audiovisual recordings of acted casual conversations between 4 actors (two males and two females), as well as 2-3 questions about the content of each of the conversations asked by one of the speakers. The conversations last between 1min 24s to 1min 39s and the topics are food, holidays/travelling, weather, work, plans, movies and anecdotes. Two of the actors are native speakers and two are non-native speakers with a C1 level of German. The actors memorized the script and acted as in a casual conversation. The audiovisual material was recorded in a circular space with uniform purple background using two cameras (Canon EOS 700D) and one microphone for each speaker (Neumann KM 184).&nbsp;<br> Additionally the visual stimuli used in the aforementioned study&nbsp;with virtual characters is attached: a&nbsp;screencast of&nbsp;&nbsp;a simulation of each conversation with virtual characters (Makehuman) with gaze to target speaker and lip-syncing (Llorach et al. 2016). N-glycosylation acts as a switch for FGFR1 trafficking between the plasma membrane and nuclear envelope - yet unpublished supplementary data regarding Fig. 1C

<p>Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) is a heavily N-glycosylated cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that transmits signals across the plasma membrane, in response to fibroblast growth factors (FGFs). Balanced FGF/FGFR1 signaling is crucial for the development and homeostasis of the human body, and aberrant FGFR1 is frequently observed in various cancers. In addition to its predominant localization to the plasma membrane, FGFR1 has also been detected inside cells, mainly in the nuclear lumen, where it modulates gene expression. However, the exact mechanism of FGFR1 nuclear transport is still unknown. In this study, we generated a glycosylation-free mutant of FGFR1, FGFR1.GF, and demonstrated that it is localized primarily to the nuclear envelope. We show that reintroducing N-glycans into the D3 domain cannot redirect FGFR1 to the plasma membrane or exclude the receptor from the nuclear envelope. Reestablishment of D2 domain N-glycans largely inhibits FGFR1 accumulation in the nuclear envelope, but the receptor continues to accumulate inside the cell, mainly in the ER. Only the simultaneous presence of N-glycans of the D2 and D3 domains of FGFR1 promotes efficient transport of FGFR1 to the plasma membrane. We demonstrate that while disturbed FGFR1 folding results in partial FGFR1 accumulation in the ER, impaired FGFR1 secretion drives FGFR1 trafficking to the nuclear envelope. Intracellular FGFR1.GF displays a high level of autoactivation, suggesting the presence of nuclear FGFR1 signaling, which is independent of FGF. Using mass spectrometry and proximity ligation assay, we identified novel binding partners of the nuclear envelope-localized FGFR1, providing insights into its cellular functions. Collectively, our data define N-glycosylation of FGFR1 as an important regulator of FGFR1 kinase activity and, most importantly, as a switchable signal for FGFR1 trafficking between the nuclear envelope and plasma membrane, which, due to spatial restrictions, shapes FGFR1 interactome and cellular function.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>These data are raw data of Fig. 1C generated by Aleksandra Chorążewska. ACT-AP Mobile Monitoring

<h1>1&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; About This Document</h1> <p>This directory contains air pollution concentration data from the Adult Changes in Thought &ndash; Traffic-Related Air Pollution (ACT-TRAP) mobile monitoring study (Blanco et al., 2022).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h1>2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Data Source</h1> <p>The ACT-TRAP mobile monitoring study was an air pollution monitoring campaign that was conducted between March 2019 and March 2020 in the greater Seattle area. Briefly, the campaign collected 2-minute pollutant concentrations at 309 stop locations throughout the greater Seattle area. Pollutants were simultaneously measured with high temporal resolution (measurements every 1-60 sec). These included particle number concentration (PNC, an indicator of ultrafine particulates or UFP) from four different instruments, black carbon (BC), nitrogen dioxide (NO<sub>2</sub>), carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2</sub>), and fine particulate matter (PM<sub>2.5</sub>). Each stop location was visited approximately 29 times during all seasons and days of the week between the hours of approximately 5 AM and 11 PM.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h1>3&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Data</h1> <p>We summarized high-resolution instrument data into median (and mean) stop concentrations, and these were used to calculate annual average concentrations for each of the 309 mobile monitoring sites. ERL-118550 Data: Rebates and Grid Decarbonization from the Inflation Reduction Act Promote Equitable Adoption of Energy Efficiency Retrofits

<p>The authors have self-reported an issue in how they used RSMeans 2019 City Cost Index (CCI) data to adjust for regional cost differences. The publicly available webpage stated these data could be used to &ldquo;adjust for cost differences when compared to the national average, show cost differences between cities, compare cost differences between quarters of the same year, or adjust costs to Canadian cities.&rdquo; However, the RSMeans Data and Engineering Department later clarified that these values &ldquo;were intended to show how much CCI values changed for each city at the start of 2019 compared to the values in our 2019 book.&rdquo; Nevertheless, our capital cost estimates closely align with several peer-reviewed studies and publicly available data sources. Based on our review, we do not believe our method significantly affected the study&rsquo;s overall findings or conclusions. An annotated dataset of Central Acts enacted by the Indian Parliament for legal research

<p>This dataset consists of 858 annotated Central Acts enacted by the Indian Parliament from the year 1838 to 2020.&nbsp;The Central Acts are available in a portable document format (PDF) on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.indiacode.nic.in/">India Code</a>&nbsp;website. This website has been developed by&nbsp;the Legislative Department under the Ministry of Law and Justice in the Government of India and is a&nbsp;digital repository of all enforced Central and State Acts enacted by the Indian Parliament.</p> <p>We used <em>pdfminer.six</em>, a text extraction python library for PDF documents, to convert these unstructured PDFs into a structured JSON format.&nbsp;Furthermore, we used regular expressions to remove the noisy text and extract meta-information (e.g., initial portions of the document containing act title, enactment date, and other meta information) from these acts. The result was a dataset of 858 structured JSON files corresponding to each of the Central Acts with relevant metadata.</p> <p>The annotation schema for the Central Act dataset consists of the following fields:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Act Title:</strong>&nbsp;The title, usually called the &ldquo;short title,&quot; is the name by which an act is known. The short title means the term by which an act or resolution may be cited and often references the date of commencement.</li> <li><strong>Act ID:</strong>&nbsp;It includes the number of the act and the year of its enactment.</li> <li><strong>Enactment Date:</strong>&nbsp;Specifies the date on which the bill becomes an act through approval.</li> <li><strong>Act Definition:</strong>&nbsp;Also known as the &quot;long title,&quot; is a summarized breakdown of the act&#39;s purpose. It may be presented in only a few words, in some cases, while in others, it can run to several pages.</li> <li><strong>Chapters and Parts:</strong>&nbsp;Chapters or Parts are subdivisions used to arrange the information in an act or other piece of legislation. There is no set pattern as to how these are applied in an act. Sometimes there are only Chapters, or only Parts and other times unlabeled headings. In some cases, Parts are divided into Chapters. So there is no hard-and-fast rule regarding the use of Chapters and Parts in Indian legislation. Furthermore, we define the Chapter (or Part) ID, for example, <em>CHAPTER IV, PART I</em>&nbsp;and Chapter (or Part) Name to identify by its heading. If the Chapter (or Part) has been omitted or repealed within the act, then the ID field will contain <em>[Omitted]</em>&nbsp;or <em>[Repealed]&nbsp;</em>respectively.&nbsp;</li> <li><strong>Sections:</strong>&nbsp;An arrangement of Sections (this is not part of the law, but assists in navigating through an Act or other piece of legislation, especially lengthy documents).</li> <li><strong>Subheadings:</strong>&nbsp;This field is optional and is contained within Chapters or Parts. It is further nested into Sections.</li> <li><strong>Schedule, Annexure, Appendix and Forms:</strong>&nbsp;Many acts have schedules attached at the end, which generally add more details (such as maps or fees), give examples of forms or sets of rules to be used under the act, or list sections of other acts amended by this one. The majority of them will contain amendments and/or repeals of legislation. However, the Schedule to an act always contains supplementary information of importance in meeting the act&#39;s objectives.</li> <li><strong>Footnotes:</strong>&nbsp;Footnotes are notes placed at the bottom of a page. They cite references or comment on a designated part of the text above it. This field consist of a key, value pair of page number and footnote text, respectively. It can be empty if there are no footnotes in an act document.</li> </ul>

Spring and latch dynamics can act as control pathways in ultrafast systems

<p><span>Ultrafast movements propelled by springs and released by latches are thought limited to energetic adjustments prior to movement and seemingly cannot adjust once movement begins. Even so, across the tree of life, ultrafast organisms navigate dynamic environments and generate a range of movements, suggesting unrecognized capabilities for control. We develop a framework of control pathways leveraging the non-linear dynamics of spring-propelled, latch-released systems. We analytically model spring dynamics and develop reduced-parameter models of latch dynamics to quantify how they can be tuned internally or through changing external environments.  Using Lagrangian mechanics, we test feedforward and feedback control implementation via spring and latch dynamics. We establish through empirically-informed modeling that ultrafast movement can be controllably varied during latch release and spring propulsion. A deeper understanding of the interconnection between multiple control pathways, and the tunability of each control pathway, in ultrafast biomechanical systems presented here has the potential to expand the capabilities of synthetic ultra-fast systems and provides a new framework to understand the behaviors of fast organisms subject to perturbations and environmental non-idealities.</span></p>

Parametric effects of light acting via multiple photoreceptors contribute to circadian entrainment in Drosophila melanogaster

<p>Circadian rhythms in physiology and behavior have near 24-hour periodicities that must adjust to the exact 24-hour geophysical cycles on earth to ensure adaptive daily timing. Such adjustment is called entrainment. One major mode of entrainment is via the continuous modulation of circadian period by the prolonged presence of light. Although <em>Drosophila melanogaster</em> is a prominent insect model of chronobiology, there is little evidence for such continuous effects of light in the species. In this study, we demonstrate that prolonged light exposure at specific times of the day shapes the daily timing of activity in flies. We also establish that continuous blue- and UV-blocked light lengthens the circadian period of <em>Drosophila</em> and provide evidence that this is produced by the combined action of multiple photoreceptors which, includes the cell autonomous photoreceptor <em>cryptochrome</em>. Finally, we introduce ramped light cycles as an entrainment paradigm that produces light entrainment that lacks the large light-driven startle responses typically displayed by flies and requires multiple days for entrainment to shifted cycles. These features are reminiscent of entrainment in mammalian models systems and make possible new experimental approaches to understanding the mechanisms underlying entrainment in the fly.</p>

Early life telomeres are influenced by environments acting at multiple temporal and spatial scales

<p><span>An individual's telomere length early in life may reflect or contribute to key life history processes sensitive to environmental variation. Yet, the relative importance of genetic and</span><span> environmental factors in shaping early life telomere length is not well understood as it requires samples collected from multiple generations with known developmental histories. We used a confirmed pedigree and conducted an animal model analysis of telomere lengths obtained from nestling house sparrows (<em>Passer domesticus</em>) sampled over a span of 22 years. We found significant additive genetic variation for early life telomere length, but it comprised a relatively small proportion (9%) of the total biological variation. Three sources of environmental variation were important: among cohorts, among breeding attempts within years and families, and among nestmates. The magnitude of variation among breeding attempts and among nestmates also differed by cohort, suggesting that interactive effects of environmental factors across time or spatial scales were important, yet we were unable to identify the specific causes of these interactions. The mean amount of precipitation during the breeding season positively predicted telomere length, but neither weather during a given breeding attempt nor date in the breeding season contributed to an offspring's telomere length. At the residual level, level of individual nestlings, offspring sex, size, and mass at 10 days of age also did not predict telomere length. Environmental effects appear especially important in shaping early life telomere length in some species, and an array of complex more focus on how environmental factors that interactions across scales may help to explain some of the variation observed among studies.</span></p>
