Public survey data of the study "Innovative and inclusive governance"
<p>The data set is based on the data of the public survey conducted in March 2023 (03.03.2023-03.15.2023). The survey was conducted to establish the respondents' political attitudes, political participation, incl. participation in the 14th Saeima elections, media usage habits, media literacy, as well as the attitudes towards Covid-19. A separate survey section is devoted to questions about higher education and science in Latvia. The sample size reached in the survey is 1016 citizens of the Republic of Latvia aged 18 and over. The anonymized data set was obtained through to the stratified sampling method by interviewing respondents in their places of residence. The survey was conducted by the SKDS Research Center on the order of researchers from the University of Latvia within the framework of the State Research Program project "Innovative and inclusive governance for the promotion of public involvement, trust, and communication".</p>
TG 111: Factors Governing the Individual Response of Humans to Ionising Radiation
<p>The current system of radiological protection, that aims to avoid tissue reactions (deterministic effects) and minimize risk of stochastic effects (cancers and hereditary effects), through justification and optimisation of practices and limitation of exposures, is based on estimations of risk to a notional average person. The use of an age- and sex-averaged approach is not a reflection of the reality of population structures, but is a pragmatic approach. However, we know that there are variations in radiosensitivity between individuals within the population. The underlying reasons for this variation can be genetic (for example, the radiation-sensitive syndromes such as ataxia telangiectasia and Gorlin syndrome), epigenetic and also environmental or behavioural (for example, the difference in lung cancer risks in smokers and non-smokers). A better understanding of the factors that underlie inter-individual variation in response to radiation, and the magnitude of the variation could impact on the approaches adopted to radiation protection in the occupational, medical and public sectors. One example where this may impact is in radiotherapy for cancer, where severe normal tissue complications can be observed in a sub-set of the individuals treated. Understanding the subpopulations for which such severe complications occur, and the underlying mechanistic basis could inform radiotherapy treatment decision making, improving tumour cure rates while avoiding the severe complications. In 2018, the International Commission on Radiological Protection established a Task Group, TG111 to consider Factors Governing the Individual Response of Humans to Ionising Radiation. The aim of this presentation is to review the current state of knowledge on variation in individual response to radiation and to provide an update on progress with the work of the ICRP Task Group.</p>
Do tradeoffs govern plant species responses to different global change treatments?
<p>Plants are subject to tradeoffs among growth strategies such that adaptations for optimal growth in one condition can preclude optimal growth in another. Thus, we hypothesized that the response of plant species abundance to one global change treatment would relate inversely to the response to a second treatment, particularly for treatment combinations that accentuate distinct traits. To address this hypothesis, we examined plant species abundances in 39 global change experiments manipulating CO2, nitrogen, phosphorus, water, temperature, or disturbance. Overall, the directional response of a species to one treatment was 13% more likely than expected to oppose its response to a second. This tendency was detectable across the global dataset but held little predictive power for individual treatment combinations or within individual experiments. While tradeoffs in the ability to respond to different global change drivers exert detectable effects globally, other forces may obscure their influence in local communities.</p>
Community patch‐dynamics governs direct and indirect nutrient recycling by aggregated animals across spatial scales
<p>Animals can have pervasive effects on ecosystems as they modify their biogeochemical and physical environments. In particular, when animals occur in high densities these effects can result in dramatic changes in the physical environment and biogeochemical hotspots or hot moments. While most research to date has focused on the direct role of animals in biogeochemical cycles, few have examined how animals indirectly influence biogeochemical cycles across scales.</p> <p>Freshwater mussels occur as spatially heterogeneous, dense and species-rich aggregations in many river ecosystems worldwide. Here we examined how mussel communities (1) directly influence the flux of particulate and dissolved nutrients and (2) indirectly effect the flux of N<sub>2</sub> production, via denitrification, across a gradient of mussel biomass and differences in community composition at the patch- (0.25 m<sup>2</sup>) and stream reach-scales (60-80 m).</p> <p>We combined measurements of ammonia (N) and soluble reactive phosphorous (P) excretion and C, N, and P biodeposition rates for ten species with biomass and distribution estimates for seven mixed-species aggregations to quantify direct mussel contributions to biogeochemical cycling and the spatial heterogeneity of their impact. Additionally, we sampled sediments at a fine spatial scale to determine how mussel biomass and richness influence potential denitrification (indirect flux) rates at the patch- and reach-scales.</p> <p>We predicted that increasing mussel biomass would lead to greater direct and indirect fluxes of nutrients, manifesting in heterogeneous nutrient redistribution within and among stream reaches. We also predicted that variation in community composition would result in differential nutrient excretion and egestion stoichiometries.</p> <p>Our results indicate that mussel aggregations directly influence soluble and particulate nutrient fluxes with community composition, particularly phylogenetic tribe composition, controlling the stoichiometry. Mussel aggregations also indirectly influenced nutrient fluxes as greater mussel biomass and species richness resulted in higher denitrification rates as mediated by their interactions with the sediments and enhancement of nutrient availability. Our results underscore the importance of patchy communities in acting as biogeochemical control points.</p>

Toll Dilemma Game Data: Measuring the Cooperation of the People with the Government in Iran in the Form of Seven designed Scenarios
<p>The toll dilemma game was designed in the form of a robot and distributed in the Telegram messenger. More than 1,200 people participated in this game, who acted as testee in the game. Each actor entered one of seven pre-designed scenarios, and how he or she worked with the government was evaluated in a simulated environment. The current data are entered in SPSS software. </p>
Cross-kingdom interactions and functional patterns of active microbiota matter in governing deadwood decay
<p>Microbial community members are the primary microbial colonizers and active decomposers of deadwood. This study placed sterilized standardized beech and spruce sapwood specimens on the forest ground of 8 beech- and 8 spruce-dominated forest sites. After 370 days, specimens were assessed for mass loss, nitrogen (N) content and <sup><span>15</span></sup><span>N</span> isotopic signature, <span>hydrolytic and lignin-modifying enzyme activities. Each </span>specimen <span>was </span>incubated with bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) to label <span>metabolically active fungal and bacterial community members, which were assessed using an amplicon sequencing. Fungal saprotrophs colonized the deadwood accompanied by a distinct bacterial community that was capable of cellulose degradation, aromatic depolymerisation, and N<sub>2</sub> fixation. The latter were governed by the genus <em>Sphingomonas</em>, which was co-present with the majority of saprotrophic fungi regardless of whether beech or spruce specimens were decayed. Moreover, the richness of the diazotrophic </span><span><em>Allorhizobium</em>-<em>Neorhizobium</em>-<em>Pararhizobium</em>-<em>Rhizobium</em></span><span> group were significantly correlated with mass loss, N content and <sup>15</sup>N isotopic signature. In contrast, presence of obligate predator <em>Bdellovibrio</em> spp. shifted bacterial community composition and were linked to decreased beech deadwood decay rates. Our study provides the first account of the composition and function of metabolically active wood-colonising bacterial and fungal communities, highlighting cross-kingdom interactions during the early and intermediate stages of wood decay.</span></p>
Data from: Improving governance outcomes for water quality: insights from participatory social network analysis for chalk stream catchments in England
<p>Globally important chalk streams in England are in poor ecological health, in part due to inadequate water quality. Addressing this issue requires an understanding of the governance systems that surround water quality. The complexity and uncertainty inherent in hydrological systems has led to the emergence of integrated and adaptive forms of governance. In these multi-actor governance systems, the structure of the relationships between actors (the social network) has been shown to affect governance processes and outcomes.</p> <p>Using participatory social network analysis, we mapped and analysed the social networks for the River Test and River Itchen in Hampshire, UK, to identify actors and their roles, determine the network characteristics, and identify interventions to improve governance.</p> <p>Although the results suggest a well connected network of actors from the state, private sector and civil society, we find that decision making is not decentralised. Bureaucratic governance by central state actors dominates. However, trust in these central state actors and private actors in the networks is low, which undermines collaboration and co-ordination in the network.</p> <p>Devolving authority to local actors, building trust in the networks, and improving connections to important actors could help to improve governance outcomes for water quality.</p>
Data for: A policy mix approach to biodiversity governance in Colombia
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>We lack an understanding of how diverse policymakers interact to govern biodiversity. Taking Colombia as a focal case, we asked: (i) What is the composition of today's policy mix?; (ii) How has the policy mix evolved over time?; (iii) How do policies differ among actors and ecosystems?; and (iv) Does the policy mix address the primary threats to biodiversity? We found 186 biodiversity-related policies that govern multiple ecosystems, use different instruments, and evolve as a mix to address the main threats to biodiversity (i.e., agriculture and aquaculture, biological resource use). We notice policy gaps in the governance of invasive species. Biodiversity policy integration into some sectoral policies, such as climate change and pollution, has become more common in the past decade. Our results point to an increased need for effective coordination across sectors and actors, as new ones become part of the policy mix.</span></p>

Three replicates were performed for each sample.</p> <p>Data analysis of this deep sequencing data was performed using custom scripts, which are described in the methods section of the publication.</p>

Pengertian Intellectual Property Right sendiri adalah pemahaman mengenai hak atas kekayaan yang timbul dari kemampuan intelektual manusia, yang mempunyai hubungan dengan hak seseorang secara pribadi yaitu <a href="http://uma.ac.id/">hak asasi manusia (human right).</a></p> <p>HaKI atau Hak atas Kekayaan Intelektual adalah hak eksklusif yang diberikan suatu hukum atau peraturan kepada seseorang atau sekelompok orang atas karya ciptanya. Pada intinya HaKI adalah hak untuk menikmati secara ekonomis hasil dari <a href="http://lp2m.uma.ac.id/">suatu kreativitas intelektual</a>. Strength-mass scaling law governs mass distribution inside honey bee swarms
<p>To survive during colony reproduction, bees create dense clusters of thousands of suspended individuals. How does this swarm, which is orders of magnitude larger than the size of an individual, maintain mechanical stability? We hypothesize that the internal structure in the bulk of the swarm, about which there is little prior information, plays a key role in mechanical stability. Here, we provide the first-ever 3D reconstructions of the positions of the bees in the bulk of the swarm using x-ray computed tomography. We find that the mass of bees in a layer decreases with distance from the attachment surface. By quantifying the distribution of bees within swarms varying in size (made up of 4000–10,000 bees), we find that the same power law governs the smallest and largest swarms, with the weight supported by each layer scaling with the mass of each layer to the ≈1.5 power. This arrangement ensures that each layer exerts the same fraction of its total strength, and on average a bee supports a lower weight than its maximum grip strength. This illustrates the extension of the scaling law relating weight to strength of single organisms to the weight distribution within a superorganism made up of thousands of individuals.</p>

The first interviewee</span> <span>allowed the identification of a second expert who could complement his knowledge on</span> <span>the governance of the open data in France. In the case of Ireland, the expert was</span> <span>identified through the reading of an academic article that explained in great details the</span> <span>unfolding of the events that led to the Covid-19 open data strategy in Ireland. All</span> <span>the interviewees were approached through email exchange.
