Does water-bath cleaning affect the health of visiting birds? A study of parasite loads in house finches (Haemorhous mexicanus) in the Phoenix, Arizona, USA metropolitan area (2018)
There is evidence that urban animals have higher parasite and pathogen burdens than those from natural areas, but the mechanism behind this pattern is unclear. One possibility for yard-visiting birds is that they drink from bird baths that have not been regularly cleaned and thus they have elevate infection risks and rates by consuming unusually soiled water. We experimentally tested this idea in house finches (Haemorhous mexicanus) – a common backyard visitor in North America – by implementing a rotating bath-cleaning regime, where we either left baths uncleaned for 5 weeks or cleaned them daily with dilute bleach for 5 weeks, and did so at both an urban and rural study site. We found that coccidian endoparasitism decreased in urban birds when they drank from clean baths, but the same was not true for rural birds. These results reveal a habitat-specific effect of feeder cleaning on disease status in an abundant yard-visiting songbird.
Water Level, Water Temperature, and Flow Measurements from the Ball Creek weir house #9, Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, Otto, NC.
This data set contains water level, water temperature, and calculated discharge values from the Ball Creek weir house #9, Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, Otto, NC. Using a pressure transducer, measurements are taken every 60 seconds with the average, minimum, and maximum values for water pressure and water temperature saved to the output data table hourly. Water level and discharge are calculated using the hourly average water pressure, and saved to the online data files.

The Acoustic Environment of York Minster's Chapter House
<p>This repository contains the data set related to the paper “The Acoustic Environment of York Minster's Chapter House”, published in "Acoustics" as part of the "Special Issue Historical Acoustics: Relationships between People and Sound over Time" and available at: DOI: 10.3390/acoustics2010003</p> <p>This dataset contains the B-format Room Impulse Responses (RIR) in the Waveform Audio File standard Format (.wav) measured and simulated at a selected set of source-receiver combinations in the York Minster's Chapter House, used for the acoustical analysis performed as part of the CATHEDRAL ACOUSTICS project (CA-MRIR-YM-CH and CA-SRIR-YM-CH folders respectively). Measurements of 406 medieval and post-medieval houses in the southern Mani Peninsula, Greece
<p>Data from field recording of domestic house architecture in the southern region of the Mani Peninsula, Greece. Measurements were collected for 406 houses dating to the Middle Byzantine to Ottoman periods (8th to 17th centuries AD), allowing for a better understanding of typical characteristics of the so-called "palaiomaniatika" (or "Old Maniat") architecture that dates to these periods. Additionally, total house counts were obtained for 32 settlements that were able to be mapped in their entirety, providing insight into the typical size of these settlements. A paper interpreting these data, 'The Stone-Built Palaiomaniatika of the Mani Peninsula, Greece,' will be published in the volume <em>Deserted Villages: Perspectives from the Eastern Mediterranean</em>, edited by Rebecca M. Seifried and Deborah Brown Stewart, Digital Press at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks (forthcoming, 2021). The paper will be linked here after publication.</p> <p>Dr. Seifried collected the data as part of a PhD dissertation completed in 2016 through the Department of Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, entitled 'Community Organization and Imperial Expansion in a Rural Landscape: The Mani Peninsula, Greece (AD 1000-1821)' (<a href="http://hdl.handle.net/10027/21274">https://hdl.handle.net/10027/21274</a>). Fieldwork was conducted in 2014 and 2016 under the auspices of the 5th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities in Sparta and in collaboration with the Diros Project, an archaeological survey and excavation co-directed by Dr. Giorgos Papathanassopoulos and Dr. Anastasia Papathanasiou through the Ephorate of Palaeoanthropology & Speleology of Southern Greece. </p> <p>This research was funded by the National Science Foundation (BCS-1346694), the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (H2020-MSCA-IF-2016 750843), the DigitalGlobe Foundation, the National Cadastre and Mapping Agency, SA (Ktimatologio), ArchaeoLandscapes Europe, the University of Illinois at Chicago.</p>
