16S rRNA Sequencing Data of Fecal Microbiota in an Italian Cohort of Patients with CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder
<h3>Summary of the study </h3> <p>CDKL5 deficiency disorder (CDD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by global developmental delay, early-onset seizures, intellectual disability, visual and motor impairments, distinct from Rett Syndrome (RTT) due to the absence of a clear regression period. Gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances and signs of subclinical immune dysregulation are common in CDD patients, yet the underlying causes are unknown. Recent studies hint at a possible link between neurological disorders and gut microbiota, an unexplored area in CDD. In this groundbreaking study, we examined fecal microbiota in CDD patients and their healthy relatives, revealing differences in bacterial diversity and composition. We further investigated microbiota changes based on various factors, including the severity of GI issues, seizure frequency, sleep disorders, food intake type, neuro-behavioral features (assessed through the RTT Behaviour Questionnaire – RSBQ), and ambulation capacity. </p> <p>Our findings suggest a potential connection between CDD, microbiota, and symptom severity. This study represents the first exploration of the gut-microbiota-brain axis in CDD patients, contributing to the growing body of research on the role of gut microbiota in neurodevelopmental disorders. It opens doors to potential interventions targeting intestinal microbes to enhance the well-being of individuals with CDD.</p> <h3>Mehods</h3> <p>The Dataset represent the raw data (.fastq) obtained from the sequencing of the fecal samples from 17 Italian Patients with CDD, and 17 Healthy Relatives (i.e. siblings or mother), collected at a single time-point.</p> <p>Samples from Patients affected by CDD are called CDD, samples from Healthy Relatives are called HC-CDD (i.e. healthy controls of patients affected by CDD). For details about the sample names see the “Explanation Table”.</p> <p>Bacterial DNA was extracted from fecal samples using the QIAmp Powerfexal DNA Kit (Qiagen, Germany) following the manufacturer's protocol. The 16S rRNA sequencing and analysis was performed by a service offered by Zymo Research (Germany).</p> <p><em>Targeted Library Preparation</em>: The DNA samples were prepared for targeted sequencing with the Quick-16S™ NGS Library Prep Kit (Zymo Research). The primer sets used were Quick-16S™ Primer Set V3-V4 (Zymo Research). The sequencing library was prepared using an innovative library preparation process in which PCR reactions were performed in real-time PCR machines to control cycles and therefore limit PCR chimera formation. The final PCR products were quantified with qPCR fluorescence readings and pooled together based on equal molarity. The final pooled library was cleaned up with the Select-a-Size DNA Clean & Concentrator™, then quantified with TapeStation® (Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA) and Qubit® (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, WA). </p> <p><em>Sequencing:</em> The final library was sequenced on Illumina® MiSeq™ with a v3 reagent kit (600 cycles). </p>
Aggregate Dataset on Descriptive Representation in the Italian Parliament (2013-2018)
<p>This is the dataset aggregated at the legislature/party level by the CSIC team from the individual-level data provided by the Sciences Po and CSIC teams on descriptive representation in the Italian lower chamber of Parliament for WP4 of the ActEU project. </p>
Mobilising marine biodiversity data: a new malacological dataset of Italian records (Mollusca)
<p>The location and palaeoceanographic history of the Mediterranean Sea make it a biodiversity hotspot, prompting extensive studies in this region. However, despite the marine biodiversity of this area is apparently widely studied, a large amount of distributional data for Mediterranean taxa is still unpublished or scattered in various sources and formats, causing severe limitations to their potential reuse. This emerges as a particularly thorny issue for highly biodiverse and neglected taxa, such as invertebrates. The mobilisation of these frozen data through a process of standardisation and georeferencing could potentially support biodiversity research and conservation. The aim of this work is to provide a standardised pipeline to integrate these dispersed data, focusing on the Italian waters of the Mediterranean Sea and using molluscs as target taxa. Data were gathered from two main sources: published literature and Natural History Collections. The harmonisation process involved three key steps: 1) terminology and structure standardisation, 2) taxonomy updating and 3) georeferencing. Our efforts yielded over 44000 standardised records of mollusc species from Italian seawaters. These records encompassed primary biodiversity data from newly digitised specimens owned by 11 different institutions and private collectors, as well as secondary biodiversity data extracted from 311 published studies.</p>

<p>This dataset is the first comprehensive collection of 528 Large Dams in Italy. Alongside structural details of the dams, such as coordinates, reservoir surface area and volume, the dataset also encompasses a range of geomorphological, climatological, extreme rainfall, land cover and soil-related attributes of their upstream catchments.</p>

<p>This dataset contains the descriptions of 128 initiatives of the Italian computer science and engineer community against the COVID-19 pandemic, obtained from a survey carried out in May 2020, during the first pandemic wave in Italy, by the Covid19-IT Task Force established by CINI (National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics).</p>
Mutations in the telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter and PIK3CA gene are common events in penile squamous cell carcinoma of Italian and Ugandan patients
<p>Somatic mutations in the promoter region of TERT (TERTp) gene are highly frequent in penile carcinoma in Italian and Ugandan patients, predominantly in human papillomavirus (HPV) negative cancers (67.6%). TERTp and PIK3CA hotspot changes coexist in 15.8% of cases. The higher mutant allele frequencies (MAFs) of TERT -124A/-146A compared to PIK3CA E545K MAFs suggest an asynchronous mutation timing. The coexistence of TERTp and PIK3CA mutations may represent a novel co-actionable therapeutic target in penile carcinoma patients.</p>

<p>The dataset contains raw and aggregated data with scores obtained by participant children (Italian-German bilingual children) subdivided in three groups (typically developing, at-risk, diagnosed with developmental language disorder). as well as in the two groups presence/absence of phonological risk, on a new Nonword Repetition Task. Rows in the file correspond to single nonwords, belonging to one of the subsets: LS (language-specific), LNS (llanguage-non-specific), for each language (IT, Italian, GER, German).</p> <p>The dataset has been the basis for the analyses reported in the paper "A Nonword Repetition Task Discriminates Typically Developing Italian-German Bilingual Children From Bilingual Children With Developmental Language Disorder: The Role of Language-Specific and Language-Non-specific Nonwords", part of the research topic "Discriminating the Linguistic Profiles of Bilingual Children and Children with Language Impairment", Frontiers in Psychology, 2022</p>

Emozionalmente: a crowdsourced Italian speech emotional corpus
<p>This repository contains Emozionalmente: an extensive simulated speech emotional corpus in Italian. The dataset comprises 6,902 labeled samples acted out by 431 amateur actors, each verbalizing 18 different sentences to express the Big Six emotions (anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, surprise) plus neutrality. The labels represent the emotional communicative intention of the actors (i.e., the seven emotional states).</p> <p>Key details about the dataset:<br>- **Recording specifications**: The recordings were generally obtained with non-professional equipment. They are .wav files, mono-channel, with a sample size of 16 bits and a sample rate of 16,000 Hz. Each audio recording lasts 3.81 seconds on average (SD = 0.99 seconds).<br>- **Validation**: To validate the emotional content of the clips, 829 humans evaluated each audio recording, providing five evaluations per audio. The general Unweighted Average Recall (UAR) achieved by the evaluators was 66%, which is comparable to previous literature in the field.</p> <p>The repository includes the following additional resources:<br>1. **Demographic information**: Three .csv files describing the demographics of the actors and evaluators, as well as the emotions they expressed and recognized for each audio sample.<br>2. **Data splits**: A speaker-independent train-dev-test split, stratified by emotion, gender, and age.</p> <p>If you use this dataset, please cite the following paper:</p> <blockquote> <p>F.
