Demography of Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) on Phaseolus vulgaris (Fabales: Fabaceae) under Different Nitrogen Fertilization Regimes with Estimations of Confidence Intervals
<p>The life table raw data and output files:</p> <p>In order to study the effect of nitrogen fertilization on the population growth rate of two-spotted spider mite, <em>Tetranychus urticae</em> Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), life table data on common bean were collected. Bean plants were treated with four nitrogen levels (0, 75, 150, and 225 kg N ha-1). Data were analyzed based on the age-stage, two-sex life table program.</p>
Performance and refinement of nitrogen fertilization tools
<p>Improving corn (<em>Zea mays</em> L.) N management is pertinent to economic and environmental objectives. However, there are limited comprehensive data sources to develop and test N fertilizer decision aid tools across a wide geographic range of soil and weather scenarios. Therefore, a public-industry partnership was formed to conduct standardized corn N rate response field studies throughout the U.S. Midwest. This research was conducted using a standardized protocol at 49 site-years across eight states over the 2014 to 2016 growing seasons with many soil, plant, and weather related measurements.</p>
Data from: Rye planting date impacts biomass production more than seeding rate and nitrogen fertilizer
<p>This zipped folder contains the code and datasets used for an experiment conducted over six years (2015–2020) at the Wiregrass Research and Extension Center in Headland, AL to examine rye biomass production. Treatments included four planting dates (late October, early November, late November, and early December), two seeding rates ( 67 and 101 kg ha-1), and four nitrogen rates (0, 34, 67, and 101 kg ha-1) replicated four times for a total of 128 observations each year. Measured and/or calculated variables from the data set included biomass, total C and N concentrations for the plant material, C:N ratio, N uptake values, as well as cost info for the biomass. In addition, there are three years of peanut yield data (2015, 2017, 2019) and only two years of cotton yield data (2016, 2020). No cotton data was collected for 2018 due to hurricane damage. Initial and final soil total C values were also measured across the 0 and 101 kg N ha-1 rates for the 67 kg ha-1 seeding rate. </p>

Litter Decomposition and Nitrogen Dynamics: Effects of Nitrogen Fertilization on Litter and Soil Decomposition
The influence of inorganic nitrogen (N) inputs on decomposition is poorly understood. Some prior studies suggest that N may reduce the decomposition of substrates with high concentrations of lignin via inhibitory effects on the activity of lignin-degrading enzymes, although such inhibition has not always been demonstrated. The purpose of E145 was to study the effects of nitrogen (N) addition on decomposition of seven substrates ranging in initial lignin concentrations (from 7.4 - 25.6%) over five years in eight different grassland and forest sites in central Minnesota.
Greenhouse test of plant ecophysiological traits or responses to nitrogen:Effects of Long Term Fertilization and Oak Canopy Cover on Plant Communities and Ecosystem Processes
In 1996 E142 was established in field D on top of the E004 macroplots. E004 was conducted in fields A, B, C and D by Dave Tilman. The purpose of E004 was to see what effect NH4NO3 addition has on large areas over a longer period of time with exposure to naturally-occurring levels of herbivory. The nutrient addition treatments in E004, E142 plots have been applied annually since 1982. These experiments, along with others at Cedar Creek, examine the community and ecosystem consequences of chronic nutrient loading.

Data from: Vis/NIR reflectance spectroscopy for hybrid rice variety identification and chlorophyll content evaluation for different nitrogen fertilizer levels
Nitrogen is one of the most important nutrient indicator for the growth of crops, which is closely related to chlorophyll content of leaves and thus influences the photosynthetic ability of crops. In this study, visible and near infrared (vis/NIR) reflectance spectroscopy combined with multi-variate analysis was used to identify hybrid rice varieties and nitrogen fertilizer levels, as well as to detect chlorophyll content associated with nitrogen levels. The support vector machine (SVM) algorithm was applied to identify five varieties of hybrid rice and six levels of nitrogen fertilizer. The results demonstrated that different varieties of hybrid rice for each nitrogen level can be well distinguished except for the highest nitrogen level, and no nitrogen level for each rice variety can be completely identified from the other five nitrogen levels. Further, several spectral indices combined with partial least squares (PLS) analysis were applied for estimating chlorophyll content of rice leaves from plants subject to different nitrogen levels, and a coefficient of determination (R2) of 97.8% and a ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) of 4.6 for all rice varieties indicated this as a preferable procedure. Experimental results demonstrated that vis/NIR spectroscopy can have a great potential for identification of rice varieties and evaluation of nitrogen fertilizer levels.
