Analysis of heritage stones and model wall paintings by pulsed laser excitation of Raman, laser-induced fluorescence and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy signals with a hybrid system

<p>Analysis of heritage stone samples, alabaster, gypsum, limestone and marble, and model wall paintings was carried out with a laboratory, hybrid system based on the pulsed laser excitation of Raman, laser-induced fluorescence and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy signals. The system is based on a nanosecond Q-switched Nd:YAG laser operating at its second (532 nm), third (355 nm) and fourth (266 nm) harmonics and a spectrograph coupled to a time-gated intensified charge coupled device for spectral analysis allowing detection with temporal resolution. For the stone samples, Raman spectra display the characteristic vibration modes of SO<sub>4</sub><sup>2-</sup> of calcium sulfate, in alabaster and gypsum, and of free CO<sub>3</sub><sup>2- </sup>of calcium carbonate, in limestone and marble. Simultaneously acquired laser-induced fluorescence spectra reveal characteristic bands that help to distinguish between heritage stone types. The elemental composition of stone samples is obtained by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy upon excitation at 355 nm. Spectra of all stone samples reveal their elemental composition that includes Ca, Na, Mn and Sr and the presence of molecular species, such as CN, C<sub>2</sub> and CaO. Additional emission lines, ascribed to Mg, Si, Al and K, appear with different intensities according to the nature of the stone material. Model wall paintings, based on a red pigment, prepared as fresco or mixed with two different binders, were also studied. The complementary information provided by the three spectroscopic modes allows the identification of the pigment as red vermillion and of the different preparations based on the pigment alone or in mixtures with linseed oil and egg yolk binders.</p>

Pulse Voltage Response Generation: TBSI-Lijing Battery Dataset

<p>In the retired batteries sustainable utilization scenario, preprocessing steps such as capacity grading and consistency matching is essential to determine how a battery should be reused or recycled. The conventional approach of measuring battery state of health (SOH), charge-discharge profiles, and other related properties through long-time charge-discharge cycle is both time-consuming and energy-intensive. Therefore, developing rapid, non-invasive, and sustainable preprocessing methods for randomly retired batteries is crucial. However, actual measured data in this field are very limited, both in terms of the quantity of retired batteries and the diversity of battery chemistries and materials. To address this gap, we open-source this Pulse Voltage Response Generation: TBSI-Lijing Battery Dataset to foster further academic research and industrial applications in the field of battery SOH fast estimation and consistency fast assessment. Xiamen Lijing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., collected this dataset. The collaboration team at Tsinghua Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) processed this dataset and utilized generative models for data augmentation, significantly enhancing the economic feasibility of large-scale battery repurposing.</p>

<p>This folder contains&nbsp;the code used to produce Fig. 1 and Fig. 8-10 in the paper: "Far-from-equilibrium travelling pulses in sloped semi-arid environments driven by autotoxicity effects" by Gabriele Grif&ograve;, Annalisa Iuorio, and Frits Veerman. The preprint version of this paper is available at&nbsp;<a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.1560">https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.1560</a>.</p> <p>In the subfolder "Direct_simulations", the code (to obtain Fig. 1) is based on a MATLAB routine which uses finite differences for spatial discretization with periodic boundary conditions together with MATLAB&rsquo;s ode15s routine for time integration.</p> <p>The continuation procedure (to obtain Fig. 8-10) is shown in the subfolder "Continuation" based on the software AUTO to analyse the dependence of the constructed travelling pulse solutions of Eq. (3.2) with respect to three system parameters, i.e. A, D, and H. Correspondingly, in each folder 'Continuation_X' where X=A, D, H, the results can be obtained by running the file 'AUTO_script_cont_X', based on the two files 'parab_X.f90' and 'c.parab_X'.</p> <p>Selected solutions for each continuation are stored in the corresponding subfolders 'solutions_X', whereas the tables resulting from the continuation procedure in the scripts are shown in the files 'bifdiag_X.dat'. In each script file further details are provided in order to clarify how to extract the solutions used for the plots.</p>

Physiological Data Collected from smartwatch: EDA, Pulse Rate, and Skin Temperature for Stress and Fatigue Analysis

<p>The dataset contains multiple columns capturing both <strong>physiological and demographic data</strong>.<strong> Physiological data</strong>, collected using the <strong>Empatica EmbracePlus smartwatch,</strong> includes electrodermal activity (EDA), pulse rate, and skin temperature. These metrics provide insights into participants' stress and fatigue levels. Empatica's proprietary algorithms preprocess the raw data, extracting digital biomarkers and metrics that reflect the wearer's physiological and behavioral states. <strong>The processed data is aggregated on a per-minute basis.</strong></p> <p>Demographic information, such as age, gender, fitness level, and sleep duration from the previous night, is also included. Additionally, participants rated their perceived physical fatigue on the Borg scale (ranging from 6 to 20), offering a subjective measure of exertion during or after physical tasks.</p> <p>The dataset was collected during controlled simulations of industrial tasks in a fitness environment. These simulations involved repetitive activities, including weightlifting, resistance band exercises, and isometric tasks, designed to mimic the physical demands of industrial work. This approach allowed for the safe and effective study of physical fatigue. The resulting data provides valuable insights into the physiological responses associated with repetitive physical labor.</p>

Long‐term trends in gastropod abundance and biodiversity: Disentangling effects of press versus pulse disturbances

<p><strong>Aim</strong>: Climate-induced pulse (e.g., hurricanes) and press (e.g., global warming) disturbances represent threats to populations, communities, and the ecosystem services that they provide. We leveraged three decades of annual data on tropical gastropods to quantify the effects of major hurricanes, associated secondary succession, and global warming on abundance, biodiversity, and species composition.</p> <p><strong>Location</strong>: Luquillo Mountains, Puerto Rico.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong>: Gastropod abundance, biodiversity, and composition were estimated annually for each of 27 years in a tropical montane forest that experienced three major hurricanes (Hugo, Georges, and Maria). Generalized linear mixed-effects, linear mixed-effects, and linear models evaluated population- and community-level responses to year, ambient temperature, understory temperature, hurricane, and time since hurricane. Variation partitioning determined the unique and shared variation in biotic responses associated with temperature, disturbance, and succession.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong>: Rather than declining, gastropod abundances generally increased through time, whereas the responses of biodiversity were weak and scale dependent. Hurricanes and associated secondary succession, rather than ambient atmospheric temperature, molded long-term trends in abundances and biodiversity.</p> <p><strong>Main conclusions</strong>: Global warming over the past 30 years has not progressed sufficiently to elicit significant responses by gastropods in the Luquillo Mountains. Rather, effects from pulse disturbances (i.e., hurricanes) and secondary succession currently drive long-term variation in abundance and biodiversity. Gastropods evince high resilience in this tropical ecosystem. Historical exposure to recurrent hurricanes likely imbued the fauna with broad niches that make them resistant to current levels of global warming. We predict that biotic resiliency will be challenged once changes in temperature exceed interannual and inter-habitat differences that typify this hurricane-mediated system, or combine with an increased frequency of hurricanes and droughts to alter associations among environmental characteristics that define the fundamental niches of species. Only then might significant declines in abundance or the appearance of novel communities characterize the gastropod fauna in the Luquillo Mountains.</p>

Compact metasurface-based optical pulse-shaping device

<p>Dataset of the publication &ldquo;Compact metasurface-based optical pulse-shaping device&ldquo; by Ren&eacute; Geromel, Philip Georgi, Maximilian Protte, Shiwei Lei, Tim Bartley, Lingling Huang, and Thomas Zentgraf.&nbsp;</p> <p>The provided data includes all the measured SHG-FROG traces at all compressor positions (SCMP) that are provided in the publication. The columns correspond to the time delay and the rows to the wavelengths. More information regarding the specific measurements can be found in the beginning of each file. A reference file containing the detected/resolved wavelength points from the used spectrometer is included in &ldquo;wavelength_reference&rdquo;. Besides this, the phase information of the different MS2 designs along the x-axis in steps of 300 nm (periodicity of the unit cell) is documented. The plotted data from Fig. 4 and 5 of the paper can be found in the &ldquo;dispersion_data&rdquo; and &ldquo;double_pulse_temporal_data&rdquo; file.</p>
