Global Naturalized Alien Flora (GloNAF). Open access data to support research on understanding global plant invasions.
<p>This dataset is a snapshot of the Global Naturalized Alien Flora (GloNAF) database, version 2.02. GloNAF is a continuously updated, curated compilation of alien naturalized vascular plant inventories for geographic regions from around the world. The dataset has 16,429 unique taxa reported as naturalized or invasive and covers 1,343 regions (including 427 islands) from 336 data sources. For each region, the status (invasive, naturalized) is provided as listed in the original source. We provide the scientific names included with the original data source, and the matching accepted name or synonym of the taxon as given in the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) Version 12. In addition, we provide an ESRI shapefile of polygons for each region. We also provide several variables that can be used to filter the data according to quality and completeness of alien taxon lists, which vary among the combinations of regions and data sources.</p> <p>The 'glonaf_flora2.csv' file lists the IDs ('taxon_wcvp_id') of all naturalized taxa contained in GloNAF and the regions they occur in. The 'glonaf_taxon_wcvp.csv' lists the original taxon names provided in the source data along with the corresponding accepted taxon name from the WCVP (version 12) for all alien taxa in GloNAF, regardless of their naturalization status. To link taxon names with naturalization records, join the 'id' column of the 'glonaf_taxon_wcvp.csv' file to the 'taxon_wcvp_id' column in 'glonaf_flora2.csv' . Additional information regarding the original source of the data ('glonaf_reference.csv'), specific attributes of the taxon lists ('glonaf_list.csv') and the region ('glonaf_region.csv') can also be joined similarly to 'glonaf_flora2.csv '. </p> <p> </p>

Adaptive PE-HRI: Data for research on Social Educational Robots driven by a Productive Engagement Framework
<p>This dataset corresponds to our work on developing autonomous social educational robots (namely Harry and Hermione) driven by a productive engagement framework in open ended collaborative learning environments. The data is collected in the context of a robot mediated collaborative and constructivist learning activity called JUSThink where each team interacts with the activity for around 1 hour consisting of a 30 minute collaborative play. </p> <p>In this data set, <strong>team level multi-modal behavioral data</strong> is collected from 52 teams of two (104 children) where the children are aged between 9 and 12. The definitions are given below: </p> <ul> <li><em>condition:</em> This column indicates which condition do the teams belong in. 0 and 1 for teams interacting with Harry and Hermione, respectively.</li> <li><em>Error: </em>This is the error of the last submitted solution. Note that if a team has found an optimal solution (error = 0) the game stops, therefore making last error = 0. This is a metric for performance in the task. </li> <li><em>Learning Gain: </em>It is a team-level learning outcome defined as the difference between the number of questions that both of the team members answer correctly in the post-test and in the pre-test, which grasps the amount of knowledge acquired together by the team members during the activity.</li> <li><em>Usefulness Score: </em>The score quantifies the team's subjective evaluation of a robot intervention in terms of it's usefulness as perceived by each team member individually. The score can assume values of 1, 0, 0.5 if both found the suggestion useful, not useful, or if they differed in their evaluation, respectively</li> <li><em>PE Score: </em>It is a quantification of the Productive Engagement state of the team, computed on the basis of quantifiable observable behaviors found conducive to learning in training phase</li> <li><em>Right_Suggestions: </em>This metric captures the team's subjective evaluation of the robot's competence on a five-points likert scale to the statement "I think the robot was giving us the right suggestions". We will run six hands-on training workshops on open access publishing and research outputs, using repositories, ontologies and standard vocabularies, implementation of FAIR Guidelines for phytolith research, and two workshops on Github basic and advanced skills. The materials from all workshops will be archived as self-study courses on our website (<a href="https://open-phytoliths.netlify.app/">https://open-phytoliths.netlify.app/</a>). We will also provide translation during workshops and training materials into multiple languages.</p>

DATASET OF RESPONSIBLE RESEARCH AND INNOVATION IN CITIZEN SCIENCE
<p><span>The research aim was to explore what aspects of citizen science (CS) make the involvement of researchers (the ones who implement CS projects) meaningful in terms of responsible research and innovation (RRI) principles. The following research questions were formulated:</span></p> <p><span>1) How does RRI contribute to the meaningfulness of CS projects and in which CS aspects?</span></p> <p><span>2) What motivates researchers to accommodate RRI principles in CS projects? </span></p> <p><span>3) What impedes researchers in accommodating RRI principles in CS projects?</span></p> <p><span>To answer these research questions, a qualitative research approach was employed using individual semi-structured interviews for data collection. Using a purposive criterion-based sample, inclusion criteria were the following:</span></p> <p><span>(i) European researchers (principal investigators/project managers) that are running (at least) one CS project; </span></p> <p><span>(ii) researchers who may represent different organisational settings with scientific orientation (e.g. academia, museums, and others) within Europe; </span></p> <p><span>(iii) the CS project, started before 2013 (year of introducing the concept of RRI into European Union Research and Innovation (EU R&I) policy) should be ongoing during the research conduct, or the CS project started in the period of 2014–2018 (the year 2014 was a starting point since it is the date of embedding RRI in the EU R&I policy as a mandatory component of all research activities) should be still ongoing; and </span></p> <p><span>(iv) the CS project covers any academic discipline.</span></p> <p><span>To identify potential informants, we used the list of CS projects publicised in Wikipedia (</span><span><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_citizen_science_projects"><span>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_citizen_science_projects</span></a></span><span>) and added CS projects from authors’ home countries. In addition, we posted the invitation to participate in the study in a newsletter within the citizen science community (e.g. ECSA) and in social media targeting specific groups and using hashtags, namely on Facebook and Twitter.</span><span> </span><span>At the end, we identified 117 CS projects relevant to our research aim.</span><span> </span><span>20 CS projects (five females and fifteen males)</span><span> </span><span>consented to take part in the study.</span><span> </span><span>CS projects covered different academic disciplines, such as psychology, zoology, biology, ecology, linguistics, palaeontology, history and others.</span></p> <p><span>We constructed a questionnaire consisting of four items: self-identity and ties with CS, enablers of RRI in CS, limitations of RRI in CS and impact of RRI on CS. Interviews were conducted remotely. The interview language was English, except for one interview that was held in the participant’s first language and then translated into English. Though some interviews had minor language-specific flaws (for most informants English is not a native language), they did not interfere with understanding an informant.</span></p> <p><span>Each interview was audio-recorded, transcribed, and pseudonymized if such request was expressed in the informed consent. Average length of interview was 53 minutes. Non-pseudonymised full interviews contained an average of 6,409 words.</span></p> <p><span>Different strategies were used to validate all interview transcripts for purposes of data accuracy and clarifying inaudible responses (e.g. validation of half of transcripts involved two researchers, then validation of eleven transcripts involved interviewees). </span></p> <p><span>Nine informants allowed to publish pseudonymised transcripts while eight informants preferred to have non-pseudonymised transcripts published. As a library, you want to remain relevant for state-of-the-art research and education. We need to not only implement existing projects but also explore the horizon of opportunities and threats that await us. The client for this project is Joeri Both.</p> <h2>Project Goal (Why and How)</h2> <ul> <li>This project provides input for the next multi-year plan, creating a roadmap with a horizon up to 2030.</li> <li>With this project, we aim to increase the knowledge level of the UB by identifying key innovative/disruptive developments, to become a full-fledged partner for providers of (new) technological applications.</li> <li>From there, we translate innovative developments/trends into UB practice in broad terms, offering suggestions for workable/realistic pilot projects that contribute to the UB ambitions for researchers.</li> <li>The approach is to deliver an innovation sub-report each month, including a podcast episode, with the aim of making innovation an actively discussed topic within the UB.</li> <li>This gives the management team insight into the wide range of possibilities and developments, allowing them to make strategic choices for starting pilots and better embedding the innovation process in the organization.</li> </ul> <h2>Project Scope (What is and isn't included)</h2> <p>Through interviews, we gather information and ideas from each department and external experts. This information is linked to the ambition themes in the multi-year plan, focusing mainly on technological developments and their impact on our work processes and product/service offerings. The collected information is available in the form of an audio recording/podcast and interview report. For the Research Support department, these ideas are further developed into pilot proposals on three implementation levels: short, medium, and long term. GRRIP WP5 - Researcher Survey
<p>This dataset includes the full survey data of the GRRIP project's WP5 Researcher Survey, including documentation about using the dataset and the original survey design.</p> <p>Respondents of this survey work in a research performing or research funding organisation in the marine and maritime sector which is taking part in the GRRIP (Grounding RRI Practices in research performing organisations) project. The survey was conducted as part of auditing the policies and practices of the five marine & maritime organisations involved in GRRIP and to gather respondents' perspectives on these policies and practices.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>About GRRIP</strong><br> GRRIP is an EU-funded project (<a href="https://grrip.eu">grrip.eu</a>) that aims to embed sustainable RRI (responsible re-search and innovation) practices in the marine & maritime sector through institutional and cultural change.
