Green taxes as ecosystem conservation: an analysis of the industrial sector's view in Peru

Background: Environmental problems are becoming more and more recurrent nowadays, which is why many countries have acted on the matter, through different forms, laws and taxes that can contribute and reduce the polluting impact of companies at the time of manufacturing their products. One of the reforms has been environmental taxes, which are not only aimed at raising money, but also at taking corrective action on the behavior of companies that damage both the environment and the health of the population.

Objective: The research is interested in finding out the opinion and interest of managers of different companies in the industrial sector on environmental taxes, also known as green taxes, and whether they consider it necessary to add green taxes to the current tax system.

Method: For the data collection of the research, 120 managers of small and medium-sized enterprises in the industrial sector were questioned about whether green taxes could have an influence on ecosystem conservation and several other questions.

Results: 63.3% of the managers surveyed agree that the application of an environmental tax is necessary.

Finnish cooperatives active in the forestry and real estate sector

58 cooperatives incorporated in Finland (osuuskunta / osk) active in the forestry or real estate business, with name and business ID (y-tunnus).

The companies have been identified by searching all 200+ cooperatives in the agriculture or real estate field as listed on OpenCorporates and manually identifying those most likely to do business relevant for climate change and climate sink preservation (industry codes 02100, 02400, 68201, 68202, 68209 in Finland TOL 2008). Some extra notes were added manually, including an URL with more information.

This is a first version of the dataset. Future versions may include more companies and more extracts from the trade register (PRH).

Dataset: The implications of microalgae biofuel production for the heavy-duty transport sector under planetary boundary perspective

Dataset of the article: "The implications of microalgae biofuel production for the heavy-duty transport sector under planetary boundary perspective"

Selected results of the analysis are included in Microalgae biofuel results.zip

Summary:

In this contribution, we study the extent to which 68 scenarios for microalgae biofuels could help the heavy-duty transport sector operate within planetary boundaries. The proposed scenarios are built considering a range of alternative configurations based on three types of fuel production processes (i.e., transesterification, hydrodeoxygenation and hydrothermal liquefaction), different carbon sources (such us a natural gas power plants and direct air capture), byproduct treatments, and two electricity mixes. Our results reveal that microalgae biofuels could significantly reduce the environmental and human health impacts of the business-as-usual (fossil-based) heavy-duty transport sector. Moreover, relative to standard biofuels that show large land-use requirements, we find that microalgae biofuels also decrease the damage on biosphere integrity substantially. Notably, pathways resorting to hydrodeoxygenation of microalgae oil and direct air capture and carbon storage could reduce the current impact induced globally on climate change by the heavy transport by 77%, while attaining six-fold reductions in biosphere integrity impacts, both relative to conventional biofuels. Simultaneously, microalgae-based biofuels can achieve impacts six times lower than conventional biofuels in biosphere integrity and 45% lower in human health.

Published articles on gender in cultural and creative sectors

Results from the analysis of 6.631 scientific articles on Gender in Cultural and Creative Sectors (CCS) retrieved from Web of Science and dating between 1958 and 2022. The largest number of publications have their focus on the audio-visual and multimedia industry (37,08%), followed by performing arts (20,48%), book and press (17,80%) and visual arts (9,35%). In other CCS, the share of publications ranges between 5,35% (advertising) and 0,41% (arts and crafts).

Therefore, there is an evident need to foster research on the women's role in particular domains of the CCS, such as heritage, library, archives, architecture and, especially, arts and crafts. Additionally, the role of women is less emphasized in the preservation and conservation stage of the CCS value chain (for almost all the domains), in the management and regulation stage (for visual and performing arts) and in the creation stage (in the audio-visual and multimedia sector).

A guide on Gender integration Cultural statistics can be retrieved at this URL: https://www.mesoc-project.eu/resources/gender-and-cultural-and-creative-sector-guide-gender-integration-cultural-statistics
