System resistance of stainless steel portal frames under gravity loads

<p>This file includes data on system strength of stainless steel frames under gravity loads obtained from the finite element simulations carried out on six stainless steel frames. This data was used in the analysis carried out and reported in the publication: Input and output data is provided separately for each of the six frames investigated. Frames 1 and 2 correspond to austenitic stainless steel, Frames 3 and 4 to duplex stainless steel and Frames 5 and 6 to ferritic stainless steel.</p>

Assessing corrosion resistance of 2D nanomaterial-based coatings on stainless steel substrates

<p><span>Two dimensional (2D) materials have elicited considerable interest in the past decade due to a diverse array of novel properties ranging from high surface to mass ratios, a wide range of band gaps (insulating boron nitride to semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides), high mechanical strength and chemical stability. Given the superior chemo-thermo-mechanical properties, 2D materials may provide transformative solution to a familiar yet persistent problem of significant socio-economic burden: the corrosion of stainless steel (SS). With this broader perspective, we investigate corrosion resistance properties of stainless steel coated with 2D nanomaterials; molybdenum disulfide (MoS<sub>2</sub>), boron nitride (BN), bulk graphite in 3.5 wt. % aqueous NaCl solution. The nanosheets were prepared by a novel liquid phase exfoliation technique and the coatings were made by a paint brush to achieve uniformity.  Open circuit potential (OCP) and potentiodynamic plots indicate the best corrosion resistance is provided by the MoS<sub>2</sub> and the BN coatings. Superior performance of the coating is attributed low electronic conductivity, large flake size, and uniform coverage of SS substrate, which likely impeded the corrosive ions from the solution to diffuse through the coating. </span></p>

High Throughput Exploration of Structure-Property Linkages in Dual Phase Steel

<p>Structure property linkage was studied in this research on a dual phase steel through microindentation and different microstructural characterization techniques; EBSD, SEM. A combination of intercritical annealing temperature and bake hardening provides nine different microstructures and as a result different strength values. Three intercritical temperatures result in&nbsp;different&nbsp;volume fractions of martensite. Additional cold work of 5 and 10 % thickness reduction followed by bake hardening is another parameter which results in strengthening. Samples were labeled in the format of aaa-bb-ccc; where aaa, bb, ccc represent intercritical annealing temperature, amount of cold work, and temperature of bake hardening respectively. The data set includes three kind of data: SEM images, EBSD scans, and microindebtation. Each folder set contains raw data and metadata related to testing settings.&nbsp;Quantification&nbsp;of&nbsp;microstructure&nbsp;is done using two point correlation and principle component analysis to find most important&nbsp;microstructural&nbsp;features&nbsp;in this material. Indentation strength for each&nbsp;processing paths were measured using spherical&nbsp;indentation&nbsp;technique.&nbsp;</p>

Carbonate chemistry changes following iron and steel slags dissolution in seawater for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement, and measured dissolution of potentially toxic elements.

<p>Ocean alkalinity enhancement is a carbon capture strategy that has gained interest over the past years. This strategy relies on the dissolution of alkaline minerals to increase the alkalinity of the ocean, among which iron and steel slags are potential candidates. However, their dissolution in seawater as well as the leaching of potentially toxic elements is unknown. These data were collected as part of a research article that assess the alkalinity generation potential of iron and steel slags in MilliQ and seawater, as well as the dissolution of potentially toxic elements. The dataset is composed of various sheets, each of them reporting data from a specific experiment. For each experiment, the analysis details (instrument used, parameters analysed etc) are provided on each individual sheet, and an overview one regroups the main aims of this research as well as the technical terms used throughout.</p>

Selective laser melting process of tool steel powder

<p>The video demonstrates one of the most commercialised powder bed fusion techniques of additive manufacturing, the&nbsp;Selective Laser Melting (SLM).&nbsp;Tool steel powder (Gas atomized ASP2023&reg;) is processed using a&nbsp;a commercial SLM instrument (AconityMINI). During the SLM process, the powder is delivered to the pre-heated powder bed through the powder delivery system&nbsp;and then selectively melted using the laser beam in a chamber filled with argon (see attached figure about the chamber and the key parts of the process).&nbsp;The delivered powder particles are solidified to form layers, as the process continues until the desired three-dimensional component is fabricated.&nbsp;</p>

Ultimate load of randomly sampled stainless steel frames under gravity plus wind loads

Iakovakis et al., 2022</p> <p>The dataset contains the hardness, the friction values, the x,y,z coordinates from profilometry measurements for the wear rate calculation and the generation of the surface profile map of the track and the hardness data to generate the cross-sectional hardness map of the wear tracks&nbsp;of an additive manufactured (EBM-processed) high-carbon martensitic stainless steel (Vibenite&reg;350). <p>These videos are the results of an experimental campaign carried out in the department of Propellant, Explosives and Blast Engineering of the Royal Military Academy in Brussels&nbsp;to study the flight trajectory of&nbsp;a projectile (steel sphere (5 or 7 or 8mm diameter)) attached to either a detonator or&nbsp;a rear detonated C4 spherical explosive charge. The projectile is accelerated by the blast wave generated by the explosive.&nbsp;The projectile initial trajectory is hidden by the flash of the detonation. After its passage through&nbsp;the opaque gas cloud, the first appearance of the projectile is captured and an almost straight trajectory&nbsp;can be tracked until the end of the field of view of the high speed camera. The test campaign reveals the capability of the projectiles to maintain an oriented path until impact on a&nbsp;target placed at 910mm&nbsp;stand of distance from the center of the explosion.&nbsp;</p>

When a nearby Camp called Camp Salvado forced the Chinese miners out, many of them ended up settling in Camp Washington down the road.
