Radar-based severe thunderstorm classification in Switzerland from 2016-2021
<p>The data is owned by MeteoSwiss and the Laboratoire de Télédétection Environnementale, EPFL. It is linked to the research article: Feldmann et al., 2022, Hailstorms and rainstorms versus supercells - a regional analysis of convective storm types in the Alpine region, submitted to npj Climate and Atmospheric Science. Whenever using the dataset, please include a reference to this article.</p> <p>This dataset contains thunderstorm track data of thunderstorms severe thunderstorms in Switzerland from 2016-2020. Tracked variables include time, position, size, translational speed and several intensity variables.</p> <p>The README.txt file contains a comprehensive list of all included variables and their units. The data is provided as a .txt file. The methods used to obtain this data are described in the corresponding publication (Feldmann et al., 2022).</p>

<p>(1) Data on occupational head/face and dental injuries gathered in a questionnaire-based, voluntary survey, which was mailed to farriers and hoof care practitioners in Switzerland.</p> <p>(2) Data of the Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund on recognized occupational injuries of farriers in the time window 2015-2019 (Klasse 11c AOK, DM03, Ergebnisse aus dem Versicherungsbetrieb der Suva, VTS-ID 25268 2020). </p>

Paisley; submitted to JGR: Earth Surface in August 2022.</p> <p>This data set contains two-second records of shallow (<50 m depth) glacial icequakes (N=1,460) from the vertical channel of a Geospace GS-11D geophone operating in shallow borehole at Gornergletscher between June 14 and July 22, 2007. Sampling rate is 1000 samples per second, and the natural frequency of the instrument is around 8 Hz. An STA/LTA filter has been applied to attempt to remove records with more than one prominent icequake in them.</p> <p>Waveform files are named after their event origin time in format 7{MDhms}. For example, waveform "70614004000.gse2" occurred on June 14 00:40:00, 2007.</p>

A list of the primary type specimens of Lepidoptera in the "Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Genève" Geneva, Switzerland
<p>A list of 437 primary type specimens found to have been deposited in the “Muséum d’histoire naturelle de Genève” Geneva (MHNG), to date (7.v.2019), is presented. Thirty-seven families of Lepidoptera are represented by primary type specimens, the most diversified being the Noctuidae (96), Pyralidae <em>sensu lato</em> (82), and Erebidae (41). Sixty-seven of the names (15.3%) for which these 437 primary types form the basis are now synonyms, 105 (24.0%) are used in other combinations, and 265 (60.6%) remain as in the original combinations. Sixty-seven authors were responsible for the descriptions of the corresponding taxa, the most prolific being Joseph de Joannis (1864-1932; 56 taxa), Jacques Plante (1920-2003; 54 taxa), and Bernard Landry (1962-; 50 taxa). The oldest taxa for which the MHNG holds type specimens were described by Achille Guenée (1809-1880) in 1872. The most prolific decades in terms of taxonomic descriptions for which the primary types are deposited in the MHNG are the 1920s, with 80 taxa and the 1990s with 74 taxa, followed by the 1930s with 61 taxa. The Afrotropical region, with 40.3% of the taxa and the Palearctic region with 27.7% are the best represented, followed by the Neotropical (23.8%), the Oriental (7.3%), and the Australasian (0.9%) regions; none of the MHNG primary types are from the Nearctic region.</p>

The dataset can be used for any kind of risk assessment studies for these crops in Switzerland.

Hail damage to crops for 10-12 hail days (depending on the crop) between 2017 and 2021 from the Swiss Hail insurance company including the number of damaged fields at 1, 2, 4, and 8 km resolution for the following crop types: winter wheat, maize (incl. silage and forage maize), winter barley, rapeseed, and grapevine as well as an aggregate crop class field crops (incl. wheat, maize, barley, and rapeseed). The dataset can be used to calibrate and verify crop hail damage models.
