LEF Sabana weather station from 2018

The data archive is here: https://doi.org/10.2737/RDS-2021-0030 please use this DOI when citing this dataset. This data publication contains 1 hour values for field data from the weather station at Sabana Field Station, on top of a scaffold tower in the Luquillo Experimental Forest (El Yunque National Forest), Puerto Rico collected from 2018 through 2020. The weather station collects solar radiation, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), air temperature, air relative humidity, precipitation, barometric pressure, and wind (speed and direction broken down to octants with a wind rose). The weather data have been recorded at the Sabana Field station since 2001; this is the third location of the weather station. The weather station was located on the laboratory roof from 2001-2007, and a demonstrative weather station existed 2007-2018. This newer weather station’s data should not be directly compared to the previous weather stations, as it is in a different location. Support for this work was provided by grants BSR-8811902, DEB-9411973, DEB-9705814 , DEB-0080538, DEB-0218039 , DEB-0620910 , DEB-1239764, DEB-1546686, and DEB-1831952 from the National Science Foundation to the University of Puerto Rico as part of the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research Program. Additional support provided by the University of Puerto Rico and the International Institute of Tropical Forestry, USDA Forest Service.

Luquillo Experimental Forest atmospheric and high and mid elevation weather data.

The data archive is here:https://doi.org/10.2737/RDS-2022-0050 please use this DOI when citing this dataset. This data publication contains daily means from laser ceilometer data from Sabana, ozone data from Bisley, and meteorological data collected from Bisley and the mountain top station of East Peak, all located on the Luquillo Experimental Forest (El Yunque National Forest) in Puerto Rico. Atmospheric data include: mean cloud observed frequency, mean lowest height cloud (cloud base), mean daytime mixing layer height observed frequency, mean lowest mixing layer height from hours 7am and 7pm only, and mean daytime mixing layer height collected from February 2013 through April 2021. Also included is mean ozone amount collected from April 2008 through early April 2021. The cloud and mixing layer frequency and low values were calculated using the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) method employed at airports in the area. Weather data include high elevation East Peak mean northeast wind speed (wind rose quartiles 45° to 90°), mean southeast wind speed (wind rose quartiles 90° to 135°), and mean total wind speed measured from October 2009 through 2020 (and a few months in 2021). Additional weather data collected from January 2008 through mid October 2020 include mid elevation Bisley mean precipitation, mean relative humidity, and mean temperature. Monthly weather averages for Palmer Station, Antarctica (1974-2024)

A long-term timeseries of monthly averaged weather at Palmer Station, Antarctic, was created by combining calculated averages of daily weather from 1989-present with additional historical temperature measurements made between 1974-1989. The selected variables in this dataset include temperature, air pressure, precipitation, sea surface temperature, and wind speed. Monthly averages (means) are made for each calendar month, and dated with the month's start date. Historical monthly average temperatures (through March 1989) are from "Baker, K.S. (1996), Palmer LTER: Palmer Station air temperature 1974 to 1996." Monthly averages from April 1989 onwards are computed from the daily weather averages calculated at Palmer Station and made available by the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center (AMRC) archive at https://amrdcdata.ssec.wisc.edu/group/palmer-station/ The daily averages are available in aggregate form as PAL dataset #28 (knb-lter-pal.28.10), from which this dataset was generated.

Global Fire Weather Indices - DMC using default DC start-up

<p>This dataset was developed by Natural Resources Canada using the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA5-HRS Reanalysis product (C3S, 2017) as inputs to the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System R Package (Wang et al. 2017). The dataset provides gridded values of the Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI) System indices of fuel moisture and fire behaviour, including the Fine Fuel Moisture Code (FFMC), Duff Moisture Code (DMC), Drought Code (DC), Initial Spread Index (ISI), Build-Up Index (BUI), Fire Weather Index (FWI), and Daily Severity rating (DSR). Each of these indices are produced using two calculation methods applied at the beginning of fire season start-up. The first method used the default DC value (DC=15) to start-up the FWI System calculation and only accounted for the longest stretch of active fire season each year (as determined by Wotton and Flannigan, 1993). The second method used the overwintered DC value, calculated from the DC value of the last day of the previous fire season and a percentage of overwinter precipitation, and accounted for all periods of fire season throughout the year. We recommend users of this data use indices where DC has been overwintered in regions where the fire season shuts off for winter and where low overwinter precipitation occurs (eg. parts of western Canada, the western US and the Siberian Boreal forest).</p> <p>References:</p> <p>Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) (2017): ERA5: Fifth generation of ECMWF atmospheric reanalyses of the global climate . <p><strong>PyPSA-Eur</strong> is an open model dataset of the European power system at the transmission network level that covers the entire ENTSO-E area. It can be built using the code provided at <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur">https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur</a>.</p> <p><strong>It contains</strong> alternating current lines at and above 220 kV voltage level and all high voltage direct current lines, substations, an open database of conventional power plants, time series for electrical demand and variable renewable generator availability, and geographic potentials for the expansion of wind and solar power.</p> <p><strong>Not all data dependencies</strong> are shipped with the <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur">code repository</a> since git is not suited for handling large changing files. Instead, we provide separate data bundles and cutouts to be downloaded and extracted, as noted in the documentation.</p> <p>The provided <strong>cutouts </strong>are merged spatiotemporal subsets of the European weather data from the&nbsp;<a href="https://software.ecmwf.int/wiki/display/CKB/ERA5+data+documentation">ECMWF ERA5</a> reanalysis dataset and the <a href="https://wui.cmsaf.eu/safira/action/viewDoiDetails?acronym=SARAH_V003">CMSAF SARAH-3</a> solar surface radiation dataset for the years 1996, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2019, 2020 and 2023. They have been prepared by and are for use with the <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/atlite">atlite</a> tool (<a href="https://atlite.readthedocs.io/">https://atlite.readthedocs.io/</a>).</p> <p>Solar irradiation data is taken from SARAH-3 while all other weather data is from ERA5.</p> <p><strong>ECMWF ERA5</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Source:&nbsp;</strong><a href="https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsapp#!/dataset/reanalysis-era5-single-levels?tab=overview">https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsapp#!/dataset/reanalysis-era5-single-levels?tab=overview</a></li> <li><strong>Terms of Use: </strong><a href="https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/api/v2/terms/static/20180314_Copernicus_License_V1.1.pdf">https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/api/v2/terms/static/20180314_Copernicus_License_V1.1.pdf</a></li> </ul> <p><strong>CMSAF SARAH-3</strong></p> <ul> <li>Pfeifroth, Uwe; Kothe, Steffen; Dr&uuml;cke, Jaqueline; Trentmann, J&ouml;rg; Schr&ouml;der, Marc; Selbach, Nathalie; Hollmann, Rainer (2023): Surface Radiation Data Set - Heliosat (SARAH) - Edition 3, Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring, DOI:10.5676/EUM_SAF_CM/SARAH/V003, <a href="https://doi.org/10.5676/EUM_SAF_CM/SARAH/V003" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://doi.org/10.5676/EUM_SAF_CM/SARAH/V003</a>.</li> <li><strong>Terms of Use:</strong> All intellectual property rights of the CM SAF products belong to EUMETSAT. The Effects of Plant-Microbe-Environment Interactions on Mineral Weathering Patterns in a Granular Basalt

<p>Data used in the Milici et al.&nbsp; <em>Geobiology </em>article "The Effects of Plant-Microbe-Environment Interactions on Mineral Weathering in Granular Basalt". The data result from a greenhouse experiment in which 14 genotypes of Alfalfa <em>(Medicago</em> sativa) were grown in an unweathered granular basaltic tephra, exposed to an early successional soil microbial community, and replicated across three different soil moisture treatments. This experiment seeks to identify the roles of vascular plants and soil microbes on mineral weathering. Please see the article for full project description.&nbsp;</p> <p>General File Descriptions:</p> <p>"AllPerformanceGeochem.csv" contains both the performance and geochemistry data associated with each plant grown in the experiment and is used for the majority of the analyses.</p> <p>"FullCensusTimeSeries.csv" contains the growth and survival data for the plants across the entire 3 month duration of the experiment and is used only to calculate survival rate and growth rate.</p> <p>"pottingsoilmass.csv" contains the data for alfalfa grown in potting soil and is used to compare how much the basalt limited plant growth relative to a potting soil control.&nbsp;</p> <p>These data are cleaned and formatted for analysis via the code in the github repository linked to this data repository.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
