Data for: Network of autoscopic hallucinations elicited by intracerebral stimulations of periventricular nodular heterotopia: an SEEG study

Periventricular nodular heterotopias (PVNH) are areas of neurons abnormally located in the white matter that might be involved in physiological cortical functions. Autoscopic hallucinations are changes in self-consciousness determined by a mismatch in integration of multiple sensory inputs. Our goal is to highlight the brain network involved in generation of autoscopic hallucination elicited by electrical stimulation of a PVNH in a drug resistant epilepsy patient.

Our patient was explored using stereo-electroencephalography with electrodes covering the right posterior temporal PVNH and the adjacent cortex. Direct electrical high frequency stimulation of the PVNH elicited autoscopic hallucinations mainly involving the face and upper trunk. We then used multiple modalities to determine brain connectivity: single pulse electrical stimulation of the PVNH and stimulation-evoked potentials were used to highlight resting state effective connectivity. High-frequency stimulation using alternating polarity pulses enabled us to identify the network involved, time-locked to the clinical effect and to map symptom-related effective connectivity. Functional connectivity using a non-linear regression method was used to determine dependencies between different cortical regions following the stimulation. Finally, structural connectivity was highlighted using deterministic fiber tracking.

Multi-modal connectivity analysis identified a network involving the PVNH, occipital and temporal neocortex, fusiform gyrus and parietal cortex.

Immune challenges increase network centrality in a queenless ant

Social animals display a wide range of behavioural defences against infectious diseases, some of which inherently increase social contacts with infectious individuals (e.g., mutual grooming), while others decrease them (e.g., social exclusion). These defences often rely on the detection of infectious individuals, but this can be achieved in several ways that are difficult to differentiate. Here, we combine non-pathogenic immune challenges with automated tracking in colonies of the clonal raider ant to ask whether ants can detect the immune status of their social partners and to quantify their behavioural responses to this perceived infection risk. We first show that a key behavioural response elicited by live pathogens (allogrooming) can be qualitatively recapitulated by immune challenges alone. Automated scoring of interactions between all colony members reveals that this behavioural response increases the network centrality of immune-challenged individuals through a general increase in physical contacts. These results show that ants can detect the immune status of their nestmates and respond with a general "caring" strategy, rather than avoidance, towards social partners that are perceived to be infectious. Finally, we find no evidence that changes in cuticular hydrocarbon profiles drive these behavioural effects.

A Global Social Network Values Dataset

Online social networks enable individuals to present a version of themselves to their immediate social circle and beyond. Those presentations express cultural factors such as an individual's gender, location, political, philosophical, and religious values. However, obtaining such data is often challenging on the aggregate level as it typically involves negotiations with private entities and ownership restrictions. This study presents a dataset of 244,629,979 user accounts from the platform Vkontakte, an online social network collected in June of 2020. Vkontakte is a social media platform similar to Facebook that allows individuals to connect with other users, communicate with them through public and private messages, and create public personas. This dataset can perform cross-national and cross-cultural analyses of online values from a large portion of the world.

Automatic extraction of opinions of users of social networks on reproductive behavior issues

The database contains an upload of text comments in Russian from the social network Vkontakte in .tsv format (UTF-8 encoding). Comments are collected from communities, which discuss pregnancy, childhood, motherhood, paternity, etc. Comments are collected from communities, which discuss pregnancy, childhood, motherhood, paternity, etc.
The database contains train, test and valid sets for machine learning processing. For the analysis of opinions in the field of reproductive behavior, nine groups of the social network Vkontakte were selected, in the names or descriptions of which the words "childfree" and their variations were clearly present, and 341 groups, in the names or descriptions of which the keywords "mother", " mothers "," children ", etc. and the number of subscribers of which was more than 10,000 people. This distribution of groups depended on the different activity of groups - supporters of a childless lifestyle produced significantly more posts and comments on our topics. Using data from different groups of the social network Vkontakte avoids data homogeneity - one of the weak points of sentiment analysis. Thus, the presented database is suitable for the analysis of specific demographic groups, which we conditionally called “anti-natalists” and “pronatalists”. Note that in the group of pronatalists there are largely representatives of a small child model of reproductive behavior. The sample contains data about stance on 6 topics: "maternity capital / benefits", "abortion", "large families", "childlessness", "parental leave", "individualism".The topics are selected by a set of keywords such as abortion, childfree, rest, no child and so on.

Sentences from the collected sample were randomly selected for annotator marking. Each sentence was marked with three annotators. Since each sentence could discuss several issues, the annotator marked each sentence on all seven topics. The proposals were marked up mainly by professional demographers and linguists.

Application of hyperbolic geometry of multiplex networks under layer link-based attacks

As real multilayer networks, we consider four networks. The multilayer networks are converted to multiplex networks by assuming that all layers have the same number of nodes (the maximum number of nodes of all layers). Explanation of these networks is as follow:

CS-Aarhus_multiplex [1] : The first network used in this study is a 5-layer multiplex network, named CS-Aarhus_multiplex, which has 61 nodes and 620 edges. The multiplex social network consists of five kinds of online and offline relationships (Facebook, Leisure, Work, Co-authorship, Lunch) between the employees of the Computer Science department at Aarhus.

Data_malaria_PLOSCompBiology_2013 [2]: The second network is a 9-layer multiplex network, which consists of 307 nodes and 35306 edges. Networks of recombinant antigen genes from the human malaria parasite P. falciparum. Each of the 9 networks shares the same set of vertices but has different edges, corresponding to the 9 highly variable regions (HVRs) in the DBLa domain of the var protein. Nodes are var genes, and two genes are connected if they share a substring whose length is statistically significant.

VICKERS CHAN 7th-GRADERS [3] : The third network is a 3-layer multiplex network, called VICKERS CHAN 7th-GRADERS, which includes 29 nodes and 740 edges. The data were collected by Vickers from 29 seventh-grade students in a school in Victoria, Australia. Students were asked to nominate their classmates on several relations including the three layers.

       4. FAO MULTIPLEX TRADE NETWORK [4]: The fourth network is a 364-layer multiplex network, which contains 214 nodes and 318346 edges. We consider different types of trade relationships among countries, obtained from FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)

Agronomic performance of cultivar mixtures of winter wheat varieties, obtained from mixture field trials at 5 locations in Switzerland from 2019 to 2020, together with yield data from the varieties in pure stand obtained from the national variety testing trial network

This dataset contains agronomic parameters of 32 winter wheat variety mixtures tested during 2 growing seasons (2019-2020) at 5 locations in Switzerland, as well as yield data of these varieties in pure stands originating from the Swiss national variety testing network. The dataset has been used to investigate the links between asynchrony and yield stability, published in https://doi.org/10.1002/csc2.21151.

The field trials were performed under the Swiss Extenso (low input) conditions, conducted by Agroscope and DSP.

Methods

Field trials

The experiment took place in five sites across Switzerland, in 2019 and 2020. The sites were located in Nyon (1260), Delley (1567), Utzenstorf (3428), Zurich (8046), and Ellighausen (8566).

Experimental communities consisted of 32 different two-variety mixtures grown in 7.1-m2 plots (1.5 × 4.7 m). We replicated the mixture experiment three times per site with the exact same variety composition. We used a randomized block design, with plots being randomized at each site within each block. Density of sowing was 350 seeds/m2, and seeds were mixed beforehand at a 50:50 ratio in terms of mass. We used the 50:50 mass ratio as this is what is generally done in practice by farmers and seed suppliers. Plots were sown mechanically each autumn. The plots were mechanically fertilized according to the Principles of Agricultural Crop Fertilisation in Switzerland (Federal Office for Agriculture) with an average of 140 kg N/ha (ammonium nitrate), applied in three splits (40 at the tillering stage—60 at stem elongation stage—40 when the flag leaf is visible). The experimental trials were conducted following the extenso Swiss scheme, which means that there was no application of any fungicide, insecticide, or plant growth regulator.

The performances of single varieties were obtained by going through the trials of the national variety testing program. We gathered the data for the years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. The data regarding single varieties could be obtained for three out of the five sites used for the mixtures: 1260, 1567, and 8566. Because there were no national variety trials at the two other sites (8046, 3428), we could not get any data for single varieties in these sites. Thus, all further analyses including single variety data were only done for the three sites mentioned above. At each of these sites, the variety trials were located on the same plot as the mixture trials, even though a little further apart. Therefore, soil parameters and crop precedents were the same between the mixture and variety testing trials. Furthermore, we only selected the national variety testing trials that respected the extenso conditions, that is, no fungicide, pesticide, or growth regulator application, and that received the same amount of fertilization as the mixture trials. In 8566 and 1567, sowing and harvesting dates were identical between the two trials; in 1260, sowing and harvesting dates could vary but remained within a week of each other.

Data collection

For each plot, heading dates were monitored, and average height at BBCH 59–75 was measured.

The prevalence of diseases was scored twice in the growing season. Specifically, the severity of brown rust, yellow rust, powdery mildew, and Septoria tritici blotch was assessed. This was performed by grading each individual plot from 1 to 9 for each disease, with 1 representing no disease and 9 a complete infection. The scoring scale follows a logistic progression based on the symptoms of the top three leaves. We used the data from the final scoring for statistical analysis, as the disease severity was usually more important then.

At maturity, we harvested each plot with a combine harvester. The harvested grains were dried when needed, weighed a first time, then sorted and cleaned by air and with a sieve cleaner, and subsequently weighted again. We measured specific weight and water content at the plot level using a Dickey-John machine (GAC 2100). Grain yield was subsequently standardized to 15% of humidity. Protein content was measured at the site level with a near-infrared instrument (ProxiMate; Büchi instruments).
