Dynamics of changes in the oral mucosa cellular composition during the regeneration of a wound defect using a protective piezoelectric coating

Introduction. The healing of a wound defect is a process based on a complex mechanism of intercellular interaction. The aim of this research was to study changes in the oral mucosa cellular composition during the regeneration of a wound defect with a protective piezoelectric coating and without it.
Materials and methods. The study was carried out on 50 Wistar rats, divided into four groups: control - intact rats, rats of experimental groups №1, №2, №3 were subjected to excision of a lip mucous membrane flap with the formation of a wound defect. In animals of experimental group №1, the defect was open, in animals of experimental groups №2 and №3, the wound defect was covered with a polymer membrane without copper modification and with it respectivily. Animals were sacrificed on the 3 rd , 7 th and 12 th day of the study. The qualitative and quantitative changes in the composition of cell populations at the site of the defect
were studied using light and electron microscopy.
Results. On the 3 rd day of the study, neutrophilic infiltration prevailed in all groups. In the coated groups, a large number of macrophages and fibroblasts were observed, indicating the transition to the next stage of wound regeneration. On the 7 th day, in the 1 st group, extensive neutrophilic and macrophage infiltration persisted, in the 2 nd and 3rd groups, the signs of inflammation decreased, and wound regeneration was active. On the 12 th day in the coated groups, all the studied parameters reached the control values, in the 1st group all values were significantly higher than at the control group, there were violations of the ultrastructural structure of cells.
Conclusion. In the course of this study, the patterns of changes in the cellular composition of a wound defect during its regeneration were revealed. The use of the coating promoted accelerated wound healing, which was found during the analysis of changes in the composition of cell populations. It was proved that the closure of the oral mucosa wounds with polymer piezoelectric membranes influenced the restoration of tissue integrity favorably, and, consequently, reduced the risk of postoperative complications.

Dataset for phase-field simulation showcasing impact of clay-coating on sandstone reservoir

The numerical data in this repository consists of the simulation data of impact of clay-coating on sandstone reservoir quality. The simulations were performed using the software package named "Pace3D".

The data is organized, the way it appears in the figures (only, those figures, where simulation data is rquired) in the manuscript and the folders are named accordingly.

The intermediate growth stage simulation data were translated from Pace3D output data format to VTK data format. Using open-source software tools such as Paraview, the VTK files can be examined. Each subfolder's data files are likewise compressed (*.gz file extension). Data must be decompressed for visualization (e.g. with gzip, 7zip).

Autograft Wrapping Reinforcement in Adolescents Undergoing Ross Operation: A Tailored Coat

Dataset from Varrica A, Satriano A, Frigiola A, Giamberti A. Autograft Wrapping Reinforcement in Adolescents Undergoing Ross Operation: A Tailored Coat. Ann Thorac Surg. 2021 Jul 1:S0003-4975(21)01093-6. doi: 10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.05.087. Epub ahead of print. PMID: 34217690.

Abstract

Background: The Ross operation is a good surgical option for the pediatric population with aortic valve disease. However, the need for reoperation due to aortic root dilatation remains the principal limitation of this procedure. We report a small series of adolescents who underwent the Ross operation with Gore-Tex (W. L. Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, AZ) membrane reinforcement to avoid the progressive dilatation of the neoaortic root.

Methods: Between March 2002 and March 2010, 15 adolescent patients underwent a modified Ross procedure with the autograft wrapping with 0.1-mm Gore Preclude (W. L. Gore & Associates) pericardial membrane. Follow-up was performed by clinical and echocardiographic controls.

Results: These patients were a mean age of 15 ± 1.4 years. The mean aortic cross-clamp time was 130 ± 17 minutes. The mean cardiopulmonary bypass time was 187 ± 27 minutes. There was no hospital mortality. The mean follow-up was 15 ± 2.5 years (range, 9.7-17.7 years). During the follow-up, 1 patient required aortic valve reoperation for cusps prolapse. The mean diameters of annulus (22.8 ± 1.8 mm vs 23.3 ± 1.5 mm, P = .12), aortic root (27.4 ± 1.4 mm vs 28.2 ± 0.8 mm, P = .09), and sinotubular junction (24.3 ± 1.1 mm vs 25.1 ± 0.7 mm, P = .11) were not statistically different between discharge and follow-up.

Conclusions: The wrapping reinforcement autograft in the Ross procedure with Gore-Tex membrane is simple, safe, and does not require significant additional time. Our results showed good early and long-term outcomes for reoperation, aortic root dilatation, and aortic valve degeneration.
