The status of the third species occurring in Sri Lanka (G. collegalensis) is unclear (Somaweera and Somaweera 2009); (E) Rhinophis homolepis, an endemic uropeltid snake found in the wet zone lowlands; fossorial amphibians and reptiles may be environmental indicators and key groups for an understanding of species evolution in Sri Lanka (see Gans 1993); (F) Haplocercus ceylonensis, an endemic colubrid snake found in the wet zone highlands.
