What's in a name? Taxonomic and gender biases in the etymology of new species names
<p>As our inventory of Earth's biodiversity progresses, the number of species given a Latin binomial name is also growing. While the coining of species names is bound by rules, the sources of inspiration used by taxonomists are an eclectic mix. We investigated naming trends for nearly 2900 new species of parasitic helminths described in the past two decades. Our analysis indicates that the likelihood of new species being given names that convey some information about them (name derived from morphology, host, or locality of origin) or not (named after an eminent scientist, or for something else) depends on the higher taxonomic group to which the parasite or its host belongs. We also found a consistent gender bias among species named after eminent scientists, with male scientists being immortalised disproportionately more frequently than female scientists. Finally, we found that the tendency for taxonomists to name new species after a family member or close friend has increased over the past twenty years. We end by formulating recommendations for future species naming, aimed at honouring the diverse scientific community regardless of gender or ethnicity and avoiding etymological nepotism and cronyism, while still allowing for creativity in crafting new Latin species names.</p>

Psycholinguistic features of verbal representation of the concept of "gender inequality" by student youth
<p><strong><em>Goal. </em></strong><em>To present the results of a psycholinguistic experiment devoted to the study of verbal representations of the concept of "gender inequality" in the linguistic consciousness of young people.</em></p> <p><strong><em>Methods: </em></strong><em>a</em><strong><em> </em></strong><em>systematic analysis and generalization of literature on gender aspects of psycholinguistic research. Directed associative experiment (DAE) with the word-stimulus "gender inequality"; method of cognitive interpretation; questionnaire: to clarify the characteristics of the sample, comparative-descriptive and mathematical-statistical methods.</em></p> <p><strong><em>Results. </em></strong><em>The concept of "gender inequality" in the linguistic consciousness of student youth is represented by such frequent associations as: humiliate (6.8%), fight (4.5%), suppress (3.7%), insult (2.6%) and limit (2.3%). Differences in the most frequent reactions of women and men were revealed: women - to humiliate 42 (7.9%), to fight 32 (6%), to suppress 19 (3.6%), to limit 16 (3%), to insult 15 (2.8%) ), respect 11 (2.1%), solve 11 (2.1%); men: humiliate 11 (4.5%), oppress 10 (4.1%), insult 5 (2%), defend 5 (2%). </em></p>

Gender segregation at work over the business cycle: evidence from selected EU countries
<p>In this paper, we investigate whether gender employment rate responses to upward and downward fluctuations in the business cycle are symmetric and whether these responses differ depending on gender employment segregation in sectors and on different type of welfare states using the Esping-Andersen’s classification. We use the VAR model both in linear and non-linear (asymmetric) specification of GDP shocks and impulse response function. We find no convincing evidence of discouraged worker effect as it occurs in neither country fully,<strong> </strong>which suggests not hidden unemployment but rather the phenomenon of involuntary part-time workers becoming more common with the increase of precarious employment. Furthermore, we find that the pattern of gender employment adjustments to GDP fluctuations indicates that the gender sectoral segregation is a deeply entrenched feature within given economic sectors (construction, education, and accommodation) in all studied countries (Germany, Poland, and Portugal). Hence, this stagnation of gender segregation contributes to the preservation of gender pay differentials in spite of many years of equal pay legislation in the EU members.</p>

Exploring the Emotional Impact of AI-Driven Simulations in University Education: A Gender Perspective
<p><span>This research evaluates the impact of AI-driven simulations using ChatGPT on university students' emotions, integrating educational psychology and gender studies frameworks. The study investigates how emotions such as interest, irritability, enthusiasm, discomfort, and disgust are affected by AI-enhanced active learning environments. Additionally, it explores gender differences in emotional responses to AI applications in education. Various statistical tests compare emotion scores, including gender comparisons and pre- and post-intervention analyses.
