INCYDE: A large scale cyclone detection and intensity estimation dataset using satellite infrared imagery

<p>INCYDE (INSAT-based Cyclone Detection and Intensity Estimation) is a cyclone detection and intensity estimation dataset. The cyclone images in the dataset are captured from INSAT 3D/3DR satellites over the Indian Ocean. The proposed INCYDE dataset contains over 100k cyclone images with augmentations taken from cyclones over the Indian Ocean from the year 2013 to 2021. The dataset pertains to two specific tasks: cyclone detection as an object detection task, and intensity estimation as a regression task. In addition to the dataset, this study introduces baseline models that were trained on the newly presented dataset</p>

Simulated top-of-atmosphere (120 km) downward and upward solar and thermal-infrared irradiances and ice cloud optical thickness; calculated solar, TIR and net cloud radiative effect. Simulated with ice crystal properties for aggregates, droxtals, and plates based on Yang (2013).

<p>This dataset consists of three .nc files for ice crystal shapes of aggregates, plates, and droxtals. The files include ice cloud optical thickness <span class="math-tex">\(\tau\)</span> (550nm), the simulated upward and downward irradiances <span class="math-tex">\(F\)</span> at the top-of-atmosphere (with and without the presence of the ice cloud), and the calculated ice cloud radiative effect <span class="math-tex">\(\Delta F\)</span> (solar [0.3-3.5 <span class="math-tex">\(\mu\)</span>m], thermal-infrared [3.5-75 <span class="math-tex">\(\mu\)</span>m], and net). The data set allows the user to extract <span class="math-tex">\(\Delta F\)</span> values for their parameter combinations. The available cloudy and cloud-free irradiances further allow to calculate the cirrus radiative effect (RE) by scaling the &#39;cloudy&#39; RE with the required cloud cover. This serves as a first-approximation because, as 3D effects are neglected.</p>

Broadband Laser-Induced Luminescence Generated in the Visible and Near-Infrared Ranges from Nontransparent CsPbCl3:Yb3+ Perovskite Ceramics

<p>ABSTRACT</p> <p>All inorganic perovskites with the general formula ABX3 (A = alkaline cation, B = lead ions, and X = halide anion) in the form of colloids have become very popular in recent years due to their extraordinary spectroscopic properties, which can be additionally modulated by changing their structural composition. Here, we report for the first time a novel study considering nontransparent CsPbCl3:10%Yb3+ ceramics that exhibit broadband laser-induced emission (LIE) with warm color (CRI = 96) upon exposure to a high-power-density infrared beam. It was found that the analyzed phenomenon strongly depends on the excitation power density and the pressure around the sample. Moreover, threshold behavior was observed, characterized by a significant increase in luminescence intensity already from the excitation of 0.2 W. The investigated material exhibits extremely strong photoconductivity. During the spectroscopic measurements of LIE, it was found that the current value varies by more than 4 orders of magnitude. Because of the relatively low sample temperature during the experiment, a LIE generation mechanism based on the creation of ytterbium mixed valence ion pairs and intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) transitions was proposed.</p>

Surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) uses arrays of resonant nanoantennas with good quality factors which can be used to locally enhance the illumination of molecules. The technique has proved to be an effective tool to detect small amount of material. However nanoresonators can detect molecules on a narrow bandwidth so that a set of resonators is necessary to identify a molecule fingerprint. Here, we introduce an alternative paradigm and use low quality factor resonators with large radiative losses (over-coupled resonators). The bandwidth enables to detect all absorption lines between 5 and 10 &micro;m, reproducing the molecular absorption spectrum. Counterintuitively, despite a lower quality factor, the system sensitivity is improved and we report a reflectivity variation as large as one percent per nanometer of molecular layer of PMMA. This paves the way to specific identification of molecules. We illustrate the potential of the technique with the detection of the explosive precursor 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT). There is a fair agreement with electromagnetic simulations and we also introduce an analytic model of the SEIRA signal obtained in the over-coupling regime.</p>
