Unpacking the concept of "educators' data literacy in Higher Education" - Systematic Review of the literature and Keyword Map
<p>As algorithmic decision-making and data collection become pervasive within higher education, how can educators make sense of the systems that shape life and learning in the 21st century? Through a systematic review of the literature, the paper investigates the gaps in the literature, which prevent the formulation of potential pathways and principles on which educators’ data literacy can - and should - be developed and fostered. <p>This dataset accompanies the peer-reviewed journal article titled "Links between atmospheric aerosols and sea state in the Arctic Ocean" which was accepted for publication in the Journal of Atmospheric Environment in September 2024, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.atmosenv.2024.120844. </p> <p>This dataset contains information on sea surface properties, meteorology, and aerosol data from measurements conducted during the Arctic Century Expedition which was carried out in August and September of 2021 in the Russian Arctic region. The dataset contains the following information:</p> <p><br>1) aerosol_size_distributions.csv: The hourly averaged time-series of aerosol size distribution measurements from an aerodynamic particle sizer. Further information for this data file is provided in Meta_data_for_aerosol_size_distributions.txt.</p> <p><br>2) aerosol_composition_and_volume.csv: Time series of mass concentrations of Na+Mg (SSA proxy) and Al+Si+Ca (dust proxy) in aerosol particles collected on filters. The time-series also contains aerosol volume concentration information for the coarse and fine aerosol categories, i.e., samples with count median diameters larger than 0.99 µm and smaller than 0.99 µm, respectively. The sea surface elevation data was extracted from 3D-reconstructed sea surface data. The dataset also contains the average coordinate of the research vessel and its distance to land masses throughout the expedition. The meteorological data were measured during the expedition and the original unmerged data are available in Thurnherr et al. (2024). Other environmental data, such as sea surface temperature, are obtained from the fifth generation ECMWF reanalysis for the global climate and weather (ERA5, Hersbach et al., 2023), and sea ice concentration was obtained from AMSR-2 daily satellite measurements (Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), 2020). Sea surface properties are extracted from time series of sea surface elevation. Further information for this data file is provided in Metadata_for_aerosol_meteo_wave_merged_data.txt.</p>

AWARE: Dataset for Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis of Apps Reviews

Kindly cite this paper when using AWARE dataset.</strong></em></p> <p> </p> <p>Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) aims to identify the opinion (sentiment) with respect to a specific aspect. Since there is a lack of <em>smartphone apps reviews</em> dataset that is annotated to support the ABSA task, we present AWARE: <strong>A</strong>BSA <strong>W</strong>arehouse of <strong>A</strong>pps <strong>RE</strong>views.</p> <p>AWARE contains apps reviews from three different domains (Productivity, Social Networking, and Games), as each domain has its distinct functionalities and audience. Each sentence is annotated with three labels, as follows: </p> <ul> <li><strong>Aspect Term: </strong>a term that exists in the sentence and describes an aspect of the app that is expressed by the sentiment. A term value of “N/A” means that the term is not explicitly mentioned in the sentence.</li> <li><strong>Aspect Category:</strong> one of the pre-defined set of domain-specific categories that represent an aspect of the app (e.g., security, usability, etc.).</li> <li><strong>Sentiment:</strong> positive or negative.</li> </ul> <p><em>Note: games domain does not contain aspect terms.</em></p> <p>We provide a comprehensive dataset of 11323 sentences from the three domains, where each sentence is additionally annotated with a Boolean value indicating whether the sentence expresses a positive/negative opinion. In addition, we provide three separate datasets, one for each domain, containing only sentences that express opinions. The file named “AWARE_metadata.csv” contains a description of the dataset’s columns.</p> <p><strong>How AWARE can be used?</strong></p> <p>We designed AWARE such that it can be used to serve various tasks. Submitted to Ecosystem Services.<br> <br> The Contracts2.0 project aims to develop novel contract-based approaches to incentivise farmers for the increased provision of environmental public goods alongside private goods.<br> Based on a literature review and integration of expert knowledge, we identified a comprehensive set of approaches to innovative contracts deviating from mainstream AECM contracts, and provide an overview of the variety of contracts currently being tested and experimented with. This includes different contract types like innovative Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) approaches, value chain approaches and land tenure contracts, as well as their hybrids.</p> <p><br> We analysed 62 cases providing insights into characteristics of contract design and contract governance and the wider policy framework.</p> <p><br> The present dataset contains information on the criteria and specifications used to describe the cases studied, as well as the evaluation of each case.</p> <p><br> This information has been compiled to the best of our knowledge based on the sources available.<br> <br> For further information on the project Contracts2.0, please visit our website www.project-contracts20.eu. </p>
Co-citations Map: Literature review on Learning Ecologies, 1991-2018
<p>The co-citation map was adopted as type of analysis over 85 papers sampled from five scientific databases (pls. cfr: <a href="https://zenodo.org/record/1503775#.W_rUn-hKg2w">Systematic Review on the Research Topic "Learning Ecologies" - Dataset and Analysi</a>s". This was adopted as method to further understand the relationships and advancement of work relating the concept of LE.</p> <p>The software tool to carry out this phase of the study was <a href="http://www.citnetexplorer.nl/ ">Citenet Explorer</a> for the analysis and visualization of co-citations along the period 1999-2018.</p> <p>The total number of citations and the relationships between most cited authors and all authors were extracted from the corpus analyzed (<a href="https://zenodo.org/record/1503775#.W_rUn-hKg2w">Systematic Review on the Research Topic "Learning Ecologies" - Dataset and Analysi</a>s"; a specific dataset was created and the outputs were processed by the specialized software that delivers the bibliometric maps as output.</p> <p>All the instructions to use the two files that compose the dataset requested by the software, as well as the software specifications can be found at CiteNet Explore page: http://www.citnetexplorer.nl/ </p> <p>Finally, the Fig. 7 with the analysis we performed shows the co-citations map, where at a first sight it is possible to see two main groups of nodes or authors cited (X axis) across a timespan (Y axis), and sparse elements at the center and at the beginning of the period (1991). The main and more compact group (also in terms of clusterisation of nodes, which are showed in green) related the publications that cite the seminal work of Barron (2004). These publications are mostly classified as using socio-constructivist theories and are placed in the area of social sciences, while for other categories (such as the methodological approach, research applications and the alignment are more fragmented). There are four seminal works (Abd-El-Khalick & Akerson, 2004; Barron, 2004; T ; Okamoto, Kayama, Inoue, & Cristea, 2002; Toshio Okamoto & Kayama, 2004) to which other papers can be connected. Beyond the mentioned work of Barron, the other three works can be placed in the area of technology (development of eLearning environments) and STEM education, supporting the idea of disciplinary fragmentation.</p>

Background music and cognitive task performance: systematic review dataset
<p>This repository contains the raw data used for a systematic review of the impact of background music on cognitive task performance (Cheah et al., 2022). Figure 2 in the original paper for the list of cognitive tasks). The file with the population characteristics data also contains separate tabs for each characteristic (extraversion, music training, gender, and working memory capacity).</p><p><i>Tabs contents</i></p><p>In all files and tabs, each row corresponds to the data of a test. The same article can have more than one row if it reports multiple tests. For instance, the study by Cassidy and MacDonald (2007; cf. <i>Memory.xlsx</i>, tab: <i>Memory-all</i>) contains two experiments (immediate and delayed free recall) each with multiple test (immediate free recall: tests 25 – 32; delayed free recall: tests 58 – 61). Each test (one per row), in this experiment, pertains to comparisons between conditions where the background music has different levels of arousal, between groups of participants with different extraversion levels, between different tasks material (words or paragraphs) and different combinations of the previous (e.g., high arousing music vs silence test among extraverts whilst completing an immediate free recall task involving paragraphs; cf. test 30).</p><p>The columns are organised as follows:</p><ul><li>"TESTS": the index of the test in a particular tab (for easy reference);</li><li>"ID": abbreviation of the cognitive tasks involved in a specific experiment (see glossary for meaning);</li><li>"REFERENCE": the article where the data was taken from (see main publications for list of articles);</li><li>"CONDITIONS": an abbreviated description of the music condition of a given test;</li><li>"MEANS (music)": the average performance across all participants in a given experiment with background music;</li><li>"MEANS (silence)": the average performance across all participants in a given experiment without background music.</li></ul><p>Then, in horizontal arrangement, we also include groups of two columns that breakdown specific comparisons related to each test (i.e., all tests comparing the same two types of condition, e.g., L-BgM vs I-BgM, will appear under the same set of columns). Data for Few studies of wild animal performance account for parasite infections: a systematic review
<p>Data from a systematic review across eight scientific journals publishing primarily studies in animal behaviour and physiology over a 5-year period to assess the proportion of studies which acknowledge, treat or control for parasite infection in their study design and/or analyses. Wild animals have parasites. This inconvenient truth has far-reaching implications for biologists measuring animal performance traits: infection with parasites can alter host behaviour and physiology in profound and sometimes counterintuitive ways. Yet, to what extent do studies on wild animals take individual infection status into account? We explored whether parasite inclusion differed between studies that are experimental versus observational, conducted in the field vs the laboratory and measure behavioural vs physiological traits. We also investigated the importance of other factors such as the journal, the year of publication, the trait category (e.g. locomotion, reproduction) measured, the vertebrate taxonomic group investigated, and the host climatic zone of origin. Our results show that parasite inclusion was generally lacking across recent studies on wild vertebrates. In over 680 filtered papers, we found that only 21.9% acknowledged the potential effects of infections on animal performance in the text, and only 5.1% of studies treated animals for infection (i.e. parasite control) or considered infection status in the statistical analyses (i.e. parasite analysis). Parasite inclusion, control and analysis were higher in laboratory compared to field studies and higher for physiological studies compared to behavioural studies but did not differ among journals, performance trait categories and taxonomic groups. Overall, our literature review suggests that parasites are sorely under-acknowledged by researchers in recent years despite growing evidence that infections can modify animal performance. Given the ubiquity of parasites in the environment, we encourage scientists to consider individual infection status when assessing performance of wild animals. We also suggest ways for researchers to implement such practices in both experimental and observational studies. </p>
