National Survey on the Effects of COVID-19 on the Wellbeing of Mexican Households (ENCOVID-19 - MARCH 2021)
<p>Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the ENCOVID-19 provides information on the well-being of Mexican households in four main domains: labor, income, mental health, and food insecurity. It offers timely information to understand the social consequences of the pandemic and the lockdown measures. It is a project consisting of a series of cross-sectional telephone surveys collected in key moments of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the four main domains and a set of COVID19-related questions, the survey includes new key indicators every month to capture the impact of the pandemic on issues like education, social programs, and crime. This is the sixth dataset of the project, corresponding to March 2021, collected one year after the lockdown began in Mexico. Data collection was performed from February 26 to March 27, 2021.</p>
IMAJINE Survey
<p>IMAJINE’s survey explores citizens’ perceptions, attitudes, and policy preferences concerning spatial inequalities and the cohesion policies that can be adopted (at regional, national, and European level) to reduce such disparities; people’s support for territorial (regional) autonomy; public’s opinions about the relationship between migration flows and inequalities.</p> <p>The survey was conducted between 22 September and 15 October 2020 in eight European countries: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the UK. The sample includes individuals aged 18 years and older, currently resident in the eight surveyed countries. In line with IMAJINE project’s research framework, the survey aimed at offering a view of the European opinions at regional levels. Accordingly, the sample size was defined at NUTS 2 (Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain) or NUTS 1 (France, Germany, and the UK) level, with about 170 respondents for each subnational unit, although the target could not be achieved in some smaller regions. The sample size was increased in Romania, due to the low number of NUTS 2 regions, to get a number of interviews at the national level comparable to the other countries.</p> <p> </p>

Survey data on households' use of smart home technology and their time of use of electric appliances (eCAPE)
<p>This survey data includes the responsed from a survey questionnaire which was used to collect information on smart home technologies and time of use of electric appliances in Danish households. The survey covers themes like adoption and use ofhousehold appliances, households’ division of everyday chores, timing of everyday activities, and everyday flexibility.</p> <p>The purpose of this survey is to gather information about Danish households and their everyday practices and flexibility related to electricity use. The intention is to combine questions from the survey with real time data of electricity consumption at household level with a time resolution of few minutes, and to do so for a large representative population. However, the electricity consumption is not allowed to share publicly, and therefore not included in this data upload. </p> <p>The survey includes questions of socio-economic factors.</p> <p>The questionnaire was distributed in Danish but was developed in and translated from English because ofinternational cooperation.</p> <p>The survey was developed under the project eCAPE - New Energy Consumer Roles and Smart Technologies– Actors, Practices and Equality. <p>The unprecedented growth of the new middle classes in middle income developing countries implies a strong growth in both consumption and carbon emissions. CoHERE Work Package 5 Survey of free time activities amongst Latvian schoolchildren
<p>The quantitative survey «Youth and leisure time activities, informal education and cultural heritage» was carried out as part of Work Package 5 (Education, heritage and identities) of 'Critical Heritages: Performing and presenting identities in Europe' (https://research.ncl.ac.uk/cohere/researchstrands/). This Work Package develops best practices in the production and transmission of European heritages and identities within two sectors that face challenges in an age of immigration and globalization, namely education and cultural heritage production. It explores how European identity is shaped through formal and informal learning situations both in and outside the classroom with the purpose of enhancing school curricula and informal learning at heritage sites by integrating innovative technologies and including multicultural perspectives.</p> <p>The target group: youth (age 16 to 19) from secondary schools and professional education schools in Latvia </p> <p>Sample size: 1047. CoHERE Work Package 3 Survey of Inhabitants of Baltic Countries on Song and Dance Celebrations
<p>Part of Work Package 3 for the 'Critical Heritages' research project ( https://research.ncl.ac.uk/cohere/researchstrands/#WP3%20Cultural%20forms%20and%20expressions%20of%20identity%20in%20Europe ).</p> <p>One of the key case studies in CoHERE Work Package 3 has been the Song and Dance Celebration tradition in the Baltic states (included in the UNESCO list as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity in 2003). The case study reveals several aspects of this festival: cultural, economic, social dimensions and governance. Through examining different aspects of this festival tradition and everyday practices it responds to several objectives of the WP3. Being a key social and cultural event in three Baltic countries, it provides a ground for debates on how performative practices and festivals can contribute to identity construction and transformation, developing sense of belonging, serve as platform for where heritage practices of different social groups can meet.</p>

Vegetation survey (BACI and Paired-plots) from arid central Australia for impacts of buffel grass on resident native plant communities
<p>The data set accompanies the accepted paper in Ecosphere. The data set includes two experimental appraoches to assess the spread and impacts of buffel grass, Cenchrus cilairis, in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of arid central Australia: a Before-After-Control-Impact (BACI) experiment over 25 years at 15 sites (surveyed in 1994-95 and 2018-19), and a spatially paired-plot (randomised-block) experiment at 18 sites (surveyed in 2018-19). Both experiments spanned two geographic regions (~ 300 km apart) and multiple vegetation communities amongst flat plains and rocky hills landforms. Each experimental design has a plant species data set, and a data set that includes site variables and summed relative cover of plant functional groups. Data collection methodology is described in the accompanying paper, and summarised here.</p> <p>Each site was one hectare in size. The ecological data was collected in accordance with standard biological survey methods in South Australia (Heard and Channon 1997), including recording of plant species and cover abundance, life form, height class and habitat variables including percent bare earth, litter, rock/strew and soil type (clay percent). Fire history for the previous 25 years was also available from fire scar mapping. Species cover-abundance was estimated in the field using a modified Braun-Blanquet scale and later converted to a raw continuous variable based on the mid-point of the cover class: 1% (1-10 plants, <5% cover); 2% (sparsely present, <5% cover; 3% (plentiful but <5% cover); 15% (5 to 25% cover class); 37% (25 to 50% cover class); 63% (50 to 75% cover class). Buffel grass was recorded on the same scale. Plant species were vouchered and identification checked post-field by the South Australian Hebarium. Plant taxonomy reflects current names (as of 2015) in the Biological Databases of South Australia and taxonomy was aligned between the 1990s and 2020s decades. Recently some species have been split into multiple species (e.g. <em>Acacia aneura</em>, Mulga) but this latest taxonomy was not adopted to retain taxonomic alignment within the dataset. The raw mid-point percent cover was converted to relative percent cover by dividing each species’ (or groups’) raw cover by the summed cover of all species at that site (including buffel grass + understorey + overstorey species). Classification of plants into functional groups was based on field assessed (1) height class + (2) life form, and literature-derived (3) life strategy (perennial or annual) + (4) Native status to South Australia. Height classes were grouped into overstorey (>1m in height) and understorey (≤1m). Summed relative cover for each functional group per site is included in the site and cover data sets to facilitate modelling of cover with site variables. The plant species data sets is the full list of species and cover abundance recorded at each site which can be used for analysis of community composition, diversity, turnover or individual species change. Sensitive species (one species in this dataset) has had the coordinates denatured by 10km due according to the requirements of the Biological Database of South Australia for sensitive species. All coordinates provided in MGA 52 Eastings and Northings (UTM, Australian National Grid). </p> <p>The authors wish to acknowledge Traditional Owners and Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands Organisation who gave permission for collaboration, data collection, photographs and reporting on and about their Traditional Lands. Dataset of The distinct influence of different maternal mental health symptom profiles on infant sleep during the first year postpartum: a cross-sectional survey
<p>The distinct influence of different, but comorbid, maternal mental health difficulties, such as postpartum depression, anxiety, or childbirth-related posttraumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) on infant sleep is unknown, although maternal mental health was reported to be associated with infant sleep. This paper first aimed to associations between maternal mental health symptoms and infant sleep. Second, it aimed to exploratory obtain maternal mental health symptom profiles from maternal mental health symptoms. Finally, it aimed to investigate the distinct influence of these maternal mental health symptom profiles on infant sleep, when including mediators (i.e., maternal perception of infant temperament and method to fall asleep) and moderators (maternal educational level and infant age).</p> <p>This dataset contains data on the mental health (i.e., CB-PTSD, depression, anxiety) of 410 mothers with an infant aged between 3 to 12 months old. Information on infant sleep and temperament (negative emotionality) was collected via standardised maternal-report questionnaires (City BiTS, EPDS, HADS, BISQ, and IBQ-R very short form). Marine magnetic anomaly data from high resolution surveys off the SW Portuguese coast
<p>This dataset contains <strong>magnetic anomaly grids</strong> that result from the full processing of marine magnetic data collected off the SW Portuguese coast between 2014 and 2019. A total area of ~4400 km<sup>2</sup> was surveyed with average line spacing of 1 nautic mile. Surveys covered the continental shelf and in some regions reaching up to 2500 m bathymetric levels. Total magnetic field data were acquired with a G882 Cesium vapor marine magnetometer towed, towed at sea surface.</p> <p><strong>Full processing</strong> of magnetic data included: layback correction; noise removal; IGRF subtraction; base station correction; line leveling; minimum curvature gridding. Wildflower survey data from French Broad River Basin, North Carolina, 2014
This dataset includes measures of the abundance of blooming wildflowers from field surveys conducted in the French Broad River Basin in western North Carolina, USA. This basin is in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Data were collected to examine the spatial and seasonal supply of biodiversity-based cultural ecosystem services (CES), in this case, nature study by viewing wildflowers. The data includes blooming species observed at 69 sites on public and private lands during the period 2014-04-01 to 2014-08-08. Flower species were characterized as charismatic if represented in tourism websites. Environmental data for 56 sites are provided: elevation, early season precipitation, mean summer temperature, land cover diversity, tree cover, vegetation structural diversity, vegetation annual productivity, and building density at local and landscape scales. Graves et al. (2017, doi: 10.1007/s10980-016-0452-0) used these data to analyze seasonal shifts in supply of floral resources and how those shifts impacted public access to projected resource hotspots. Relationships between landscape gradients, biodiversity, and ecosystem service supply varied seasonally, and the analysis identified CES hotspots otherwise obscured by simple proxies. Landscape models of biodiversity-based cultural ecosystem services should include seasonal dynamics of biotic communities to avoid under- or over-emphasizing the importance of specific locations in ecosystem service assessments.
Long-term trends in pesticide residues and physical chemical parameters of superficial water samples with accompanying macro-benthic invertebrate community surveys from the Palo Verde National Park, Costa Rica: 1993-1994; 2001; 2004-2005; 2009-2011
During the years 1993-1994, 2001, 2003-2005 and 2009-2011, the Central American Institute for Studies on Toxic Substances (IRET-UNA) executed independent research projects which quantified the presence of pesticide residues on superficial water samples from the Palo Verde National Park (PVNP) and surrounding areas. The PVNP (5460 sq km) is a RAMSAR wetland of international importance, which has been subjected to pesticide pressure from agricultural fields (mainly rice and sugarcane) since the 1960s and 1970s. In 1993, the PVNP wetlands were placed on the RAMSAR Montreux Record, indicating that it was considered an “impaired ecosystem” due to ecotoxicology concerns. Water is the key component of all issues regarding the biodiversity, management, restoration, and economic development of this region. Therefore, water quality is a critical component of many social ecological discussions and research efforts. This data package contains uniform pesticide, biological and water quality data from all PVNP wetland projects (1993- 2011) in order to present long-term trends in the environmental water quality and accompanying biological patterns for this conservation area. Study sites were spatially determined to compare clean upstream waters with a gradient of pesticide-affected waters. Superficial water samples were collected at various sites for chemical (pesticide) analysis and water quality parameters were recorded in situ for environmental monitoring. Corresponding biological sampling was completed to survey benthic macroinvertebrate communities and compare with local eco-toxicological profiles. This data package contains information from four separate projects.
Distribution and habitat use of juvenile Feather River salmonids: 25 years and ongoing of snorkel surveys
Since 1999, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has conducted annual snorkel surveys to monitor juvenile salmon on the Feather River. The objective of this data collection effort is to determine the relative abundance and distribution of rearing juvenile Chinook salmon and steelhead. A secondary objective is to collect baseline data for future monitoring programs associated with habitat restoration projects. Crews survey units within 20 sampling sections on the high flow (HFC) and low flow channel (LFC) between January and September and collect information on species, fish size, substrate, cover, and habitat type. This dataset represents an extensive time series that could be used to identify habitat conditions where juvenile Chinook salmon and steelhead occur and how these conditions have changed over time. These data were published to support the Healthy Rivers and Landscapes Program.
Sustainable Tourism Survey Dataset for the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon Region, 2024-2025
This dataset is based on a sustainability perception survey conducted at Perla Ecological Park, located in the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon, during December 2024 and January 2025. A total of 383 visitors participated in the study, which aimed to: (1) quantify and compare key sustainability indicators across PERLA’s management zones, (2) identify the most influential predictors of overall sustainable performance, and (3) derive and prioritize a set of integrated strategies that balance ecological conservation with economic viability. The survey instrument included Likert-scale, dichotomous, and thematic categorical items designed to assess public perceptions on tourism sustainability, natural and cultural resource management, institutional support, and visitor satisfaction. The research was carried out through a collaborative effort among multiple public universities and independent researchers, including two international institutions—one of them based in Ecuador—as part of a broader scientific initiative to inform evidence-based sustainability planning in protected areas. This dataset provides valuable insight for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers interested in sustainable tourism, visitor management, and participatory planning in biodiversity-rich environments.
Survey of Alarka Laurel and Rich Mountain Red Spruce (Picea rubens) Overstory, Saplings, and Seedlings in western North Carolina in 2007, 2022, and 2023
In the southern Appalachians, disjunct red spruce (Picea rubens) populations persist at low latitudes at elevations above 1,370 m. However, research on the condition of these disjunct red spruce populations is limited. This study compared baseline health, recruitment, and stand dynamics of two of the southern-most red spruce populations in eastern North America, the Rich Mountain and Alarka Laurel spruce bog basins in Nantahala National Forest, North Carolina. We collected data on overstory (DBH>10 cm), saplings (DBH< 10 cm, and height >2 m), and seedlings (height<10 cm) from Alarka Laurel in 2007 and 2022. Data from Rich Mountain were collected in 2023. We used 10-m wide belt transects noted the species and diameter at breast height (DBH) of overstory species, counted and noted the DBH of red spruce saplings, and counted and noted the height of red spruce seedlings. In 2022 and 2023, we gave a health score from 0-3 for all three categories of trees (overstory, saplings, and seedlings), with 0 being dead and 3 being healthy with little to no signs of disease or stress. Overall, both stands did not yet appear affected by climatic warming, despite the southern latitude and relatively low elevation. Our findings reveal that red spruce is the dominant overstory species, comprising an average of 25.6% of all measured overstory trees, with seedlings and saplings making up 72.8% of the red spruce population, indicating sustainable recruitment. Red spruce basal area declined by 13.9% from 2007 to 2022 in Alarka Laurel, with a concomitant increase in some hardwood species. However, both Alarka Laurel and Rich Mountain showed high levels of sapling and seedling recruitment. Overall, red spruce trees are healthy, particularly seedlings, representing the healthiest age category. This dataset documented breeding bird communities within black ash forest stands along the shores of the St. Louis River Estuary in 2021. Breeding bird abundance was measured across multiple black ash stands that varied in canopy cover percent, understory density, and overall structural complexity. Data from this work supports the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and collaborating partners in their ongoing ecological monitoring and habitat management in the St. Louis River Estuary. Data could be compiled with other regional breeding bird surveys or forestry data.

The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: This data set contains records for the numbers of selected groups of ground-dwelling arthropod species and individuals collected from pitfall traps at 4 sites on the Sevilleta NWR, including creotostebush shrubland, both black and blue grama grasslands, and a pinyon/juniper woodland. Data collections begin in May of 1989, and are represented by subsequent sample collections every 2 months. One site (Goat Draw/Cerro Montosa) was discontinued in 2001, and a new site (Blue Grama) was initiated . Only three sites, creosotebush, black grama, and blue grama were continued between 2001-2004.

The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: This data set contains the results of point count surveys of breeding birds in the salt marshes of the Plum Island Estuary. Surveys have been carried out each year in June beginning in 2004 and are ongoing. Currently six circles of 100 m radius are being surveyed. Three of the circles are in plots that had been regularly hayed and three in unhayed plots. Currently only one of the plots is regularly hayed. 85 species recorded as of 2020. Most frequently encountered are Agelaius phoeniceus, Ammospiza caudacuta, Tringa semipalmata. The Plum Island Ecosystems (PIE) LTER is developing a predictive understanding of the response of a linked watershed-marsh-estuarine system in northeastern Massachusetts to rapid environmental change. Over the last 30 years, surface sea water temperatures in the adjacent Gulf of Maine have risen at 3 times the global average, rates of sea-level rise have accelerated, and precipitation has increased. Coupled with these changes in climate and sea level are substantial changes within the rapidly urbanizing watersheds that influence water, sediment, and nutrient delivery to the marsh and estuary. In PIE IV our focus is on: Dynamics of coastal ecosystems in a region of rapid climate change, sea-level rise, and human impacts.
