Age-0 fish abundances and putative environmental drivers for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, 1980 to 2020.
Data on fall (September-December) age-0 abundances of a suite of relatively abundant/common fishes and a suite of likely environmental driver variables. All data are derived from publicly available sources as cited below, except for determination of age-0 maximum length thresholds, which were derived from examination of length-frequency histograms for fall months. Fish data are from https://doi.org/10.6073/pasta/0cdf7e5e954be1798ab9bf4f23816e83. Water temperature, chlorophyll-a, and Secchi depth data are from https://doi.org/10.6073/pasta/42b3d889ffa056030f953aed85b5621e. Zooplankton abundance data are from (https://doi.org/10.6073/pasta/89dbadd9d9dbdfc804b160c81633db0d). Sea surface temperature data are from (https://doi.org/10.6075/J0S75GHD). Ocean upwelling data are from (https://oceanview.pfeg.noaa.gov/products/upwelling/dnld). Flows data are from the DAYFLOW model (https://data.cnra.ca.gov/dataset/dayflow). Environmental driver data are annualized by water year and, where appropriate, aggregated to a single, putatively spatially representative time series.
Disturbance effects on soil processes in the Andrews Experimental Forest (1995 Stand Age Study)
This study was designed to determine how edges generated by clear-cutting old-growth forests influence patterns of soil carbon and nitrogen cycling and the distribution of ectomycorrhizal mats and to determine how these patterns change with time after harvest. A secondary objective was to measure how clear-cutting within different climatic regimes influenced soil nitrogen and carbon cycling.
Age structure, developmental pathways, and fire regime characterization of Douglas-fir/western hemlock forests in the central western Cascades of Oregon
These data are the raw forest stand- and age-structure data from 124 stands in the central western Cascades of Oregon used to construct a conceptual model of stand development under the mixed-severity fire regime that has operated extensively in this region.
Age, size, and disease severity of thinleaf alder stems along the Tanana River floodplains, collected in 2006 and 2007.
Thinleaf alder stands on the Tanana River floodplains, sampled in 2006 and 2007: A subsample of thinleaf alder stems were aged using tree-ring analysis, and the age structures of alder populations were estimated from their size structures (DN_alder_stand_structure1), based on the size/age relationships derived from this dataset. Relationships between disease incidence/severity and size/age were also explored. Included in this dataset are: the stem diameter at breast height (dbh), age of stem at ground level, age at breast height, and disease severity.
White Spruce NPP: average NPP per tree by age cohort for 4 time periods between 1993 and 2008
This data set is derived from BNZ LTER inventory plots, where DBH of all trees is measured every 3 to 4 years, and increment changes in AG biomass are derived from allometric equations. Data included in this file were obtained from 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2008 inventories, generating 4 growth increments between 1997 and 2008. Data are reported by age cohort, and include NPP increments (averaged across all trees within each landscape and successional stage) for all trees of known age (determined from coring).

Site, environmental and stand data across an age since fire range of 6-338 years for 30 sites in northern Yukon and central Alaska
This dataset describes site level environmental and stand attributes of 30 black spruce stands across northern Yukon and central Alaska. Sites were selected to cover a broad age range since fire (6 to 338 years). Site level descriptions include: latitude, longitude, elevation, slope, aspect, soil characteristics (organic layer depth, pH, active layer depth, moisture classification, texture), average tree age, density and stand basal area. <br><br> **In Prep Puplication** Viglas, Jayme, Carissa Brown, and Jill Johnstone. Samples of individual trees (cones, age) within sites across an age since fire range of 6-338 years for 30 sites in northern Yukon and central Alaska
This dataset describes individual trees within site attributes including cohort of cones (2006-2009), whether cones are opened or closed, the number of cones and seeds and viability of each cohort and the measured age of two perpendicular sections at the base of tree. <br><br> **In Prep Puplication** Viglas, Jayme, Carissa Brown, and Jill Johnstone. Mycorrhizal colonization, age, and aboveground biomass (g) of Nothofagus pumilio seedlings harvested from Variable Retention treatments at Los Cerros Ranch, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
This dataset contains data on Nothofagus pumilio seedlings sampled from a Variable Retention (VR) managed forest in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina seven years after harvesting. We evaluated the effects of a VR timber management system on the EMF community associated with N. pumilio seedlings. We quantified the abundance, composition, and diversity of EMF across aggregate (AR) and dispersed retention (DR) sites within a VR managed area and compared them to primary forest (PF) stands. EMF assemblage and taxonomic identities were determined by ITS-rDNA sequencing of individual root tips sampled from 280 seedlings across three landscape replicates of each VR treatment. To better understand seedling performance, we tested the relationships between fungal colonization, fungal taxonomic composition, seedling biomass, and VR treatment across our study sites. This data was collected as a comparative component to a larger project understanding the effect of mycorrizhae on seedling success after various disturbances such as logging and fire that was ongoing at the Bonanza Creek LTER and other arctic locations.
Tree-Ring Data for Co-Occurring White Spruce and Paper Birch at an Intermediate Aged Stand in the Bonanza Creek LTER Regional Site Network - 2018
This dataset contains tree ring widths of co-occurring white spruce and Alaska paper birch. The data were published as part of a 2021 article in Journal of Ecology.
Lagrangian Water Age trajectories initiated from the coastal 500m isobath and derived from surface velocities obtained from satellite observations
We conduct a Lagrangian particle trajectory analysis of surface velocities. We define an “offshore water age” as the time taken by a water parcel to be advected backward in time from its current position along its trajectory until it crosses the 500 m isobath. The rationale of this diagnostic is to detect filaments of coastal water advected offshore by horizontal transport and to estimate the time for water parcels in the filament o leave the coastal area. For example, a value of “20 days” assigned to a pixel means that the water parcel in that area was in the coastal area approximately 20 days before, where it was likely enriched in nutrients.
