Data for: Multifunctional fibers enable modulation of cortical and deep brain activity during cognitive behavior in macaques
<p>Recording and modulating neural activity <em>in vivo</em> enables investigations of the neurophysiology underlying behavior and disease, but there is a dearth of translational tools for simultaneous recording and localized receptor-specific modulation. We addressed this limitation by translating multifunctional fiber neurotechnology previously only available for rodent studies to enable cortical and subcortical neural recording and modulation in macaques. In the premotor cortex and putamen, we recorded single-neuron activity and local field potential oscillations during intracranial GABA infusions while a macaque performed a working memory task. We also recorded neuronal activity during saline, artificial cerebrospinal fluid, and no infusion control experiments. We characterized the dynamic effects of local infusions with multiple time series analysis techniques, including spectrotemporal analysis and state-space modeling. This dataset and accompanying software toolbox provide detailed insight into the electrophysiological effect of neurotransmitter receptor modulation in both cortical and subcortical structures in an awake macaque. </p>

Simulation of 50 GBaud PAM-4 signals transmitted over multiple fiber lengths for WDM operation
<p>The data sets consist of simulated waveforms of 50 Gbaud PAM-4 signals generated using optical transmitters based on EML arrays operating in the O-band, each one integrating on the same die a DFB laser, an Electroabsorption modulator and a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier for extra power boost. The purpose was to simulate the operation of 400 GbE, 800 GbE and 1600 GbE optical interconnects over various transmission distances. The optical signals from the EML transmitters are multiplexed using an AWG with 100-GHz 3-dB channel bandwidth and then transmitted over different lengths of SMF optical fiber. Each EML has 35 GHz bandwidth 3-dB bandwidth and 0 dBm optical output power. The utilization of micro-mesoporous carbon-based filler in the P84 hollow fiber membrane for gas separation
<p>This research carried out a unique micro-mesoporous carbon particle incorporation into P84 co-polyimide membrane for improved gas separation performance. The carbon filler was prepared using a hard template method from zeolite and called as zeolite templated carbon (ZTC). This research aims to study the loading amount of ZTC into P84 co-polyimide toward the gas separation performance. The ZTC was prepared using simple impregnation method of sucrose into hard template of zeolite Y. The SEM result showing a dispersed ZTC particle on the membrane surface and cross-section. The pore size distribution of ZTC revealed that the particle consists of two characteristics of micro and mesoporous region. It was noted that with only 0.5 wt% of ZTC addition, the permeability was boosted up from 4.68 to 7.06 and from 8.95 to 13.15 Barrer, for CO2 and H2 respectively as compared to the neat membrane. On the other hand, the optimum loading was at 1 wt%, where the membrane received thermal stability boost of 10% along with the 62.4 and 35% of selectivity boost of CO2/CH4 and H2/CH4, respectively. It was noticed that the position of the filler on the membrane surface was significantly affecting the gas transport mechanism of the membrane. Overall, te results demonstrated that the addition of ZTC with proper filler position has potential candidate to be applicable in the gas separation involving CO2 and H2.</p>
Recruitment of release sites underlies chemical presynaptic potentiation at hippocampal mossy fiber boutons
<p>The MFB_cLTP_Data zip folder contains the data from the publication by Orlando M, Dvorzhak A, Bruentgens F, Maglione M, Rost BR, Sigrist SJ, Breustedt J, and Schmitz D. "Recruitment of release sites underlies chemical presynaptic potentiation at hippocampal mossy fiber <em>boutons" </em>that is under revision at PLOS Biology. </p> <p>Each file corresponds to a figure in the paper. The folder contains data from two photon live glutamate imaging, STED microscopy, electron microscopy of murine hippocampal mossy fiber boutons and autaptic neuron electrophysiology. We compared boutons in control conditions (CTRL) with boutons at wich chemical potentiation was induced by the application of 50 µM Forskolin for 15 minutes (FSK).</p>
Data from: Preparation and structure of SiOCN fibers derived from cyclic silazane/PAA hybrid precursor
Ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials have been considered a desired solution for lightweight and high temperature applications. Simultaneously, among all different CMC reinforcements, Polymer-Derived Ceramic (PDC) fibers have gained attention for the intrinsic thermal stability and mechanical strength with simple and cost-effective synthesis techniques. Here, carbon-rich silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) fibers were synthesized via hand-drawing and polymer pyrolysis of a hybrid precursor of 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-1,3,5,7-tetravinyl-cyclotetrasilazane (TTCSZ) and polyacrylic acid (PAA). The type of silazane reported in this work is considered as a major precursor for SiCN, however it is unspinnable, due to its unfavorable physical properties (low viscosity) and chemical structure (cyclic rather than linear structure). The introduction of PAA to TTCSZ to create a hybrid precursor remarkably improved spinnability of the silazane and should be widely applicable to other unspinnable PDC preceramic polymers. Investigations on structural and compositional development of the fibers were mainly conducted via Raman spectroscopy, Fourier-Transform InfraRed spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and ThermoGravimetric Analysis (TGA) to determine spinnability, free carbon content, cross-linking and pyrolysis behavior of the fibers, respectively.
