Forage Resources in Warming and Removal Plots, Almont, CO, 2019
This is data collected to explore the impacts of warming and dominant species removal on the quantity and quality of plants for cattle foraging. The data were collected from the Colorado low elevation site (Almont) of the Warming and Removal in Mountains experiment which examines the direct and indirect impacts of climate change on plant and soil communities. Treatments include a control, warming (+1.5C), removal of the dominant species (Wyethia Amplexicalus), and both warming and dominant species removal. The dataset includes data that were collected in 2019 as well as historical data from the site. From 2019 we have in situ air temperature contained in and soil temperature data and an assessment of plant cover from every plot. We then have a compiled set of plant traits for each of the nine most common species including the leaf nitrogen, crude protein content, and forage quality class which are used for analysis on forage quality. The dataset also includes the annual plant cover data collected at peak season from 2013 to 2021 which was compared to daily temperature and precipitation data from the same date range collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. All reported figures and statistics published can be created from this data package.
[DEPRECATED] Aboveground biomass at control and fertilized plots in a Spartina patens-dominated marsh, Rowley River, Plum Island Ecosystem LTER, MA. (Reformatted to ecocomDP Design Pattern)
This ecocomDP data package is about populations rather than communities, and has therefore been deprecated. This data package is formatted according to the "ecocomDP", a data package design pattern for ecological community surveys, and data from studies of composition and biodiversity. For more information on the ecocomDP project see https://github.com/EDIorg/ecocomDP/tree/master, or contact EDI https://environmentaldatainitiative.org. This Level 1 data package was derived from the Level 0 data package found here: https://portal.edirepository.org/nis/mapbrowse?scope=knb-lter-pie&identifier=33&revision=16 The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context:
Vegetation indices calculated from reflectance spectra collected at LTER plots at Toolik Lake, Alaska during the 2007-2019 growing seasons.
Vegetation indices calculated from reflectance spectra collected at Arctic LTER experimental plots at Toolik Lake, Alaska during the 2007-2019 growing seasons. Long term experimental plots span several different vegetation types: Heath (HTH89), Moist Acidic Tussock (MAT89 and Low Fert), Moist Non-Acidic Tussock (MNAT), Non-Acidic Non-Tussock (NANT), Shrub (SHB), and Wet Sedge (WSG). Plots are differentiated by their experimental treatment and are located in replicate blocks.Canopy reflectance is measured by hand-held spectrophotometer and several indices of interest (NDVI, EVI, EVI2, PRI, WBI, and Chlorophyll index) are calculated.
Hourly weather data from the Arctic LTER Moist Acidic Tussock Experimental plots from 2011 to present, Toolik Filed Station, North Slope, Alaska.
Hourly weather data from the LTER Moist Acidic Tussock Experimental plots. The station was installed in 1990 in block 2 of the Toolik LTER experimental moist acidic tussock plots. The plots are located on a hillside near Toolik Lake (68 38' N, 149 36'W). Global solar radiation, photosynthetic active radiation, unfrozen precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and wind direction are measured at 3 meters. Additional sensors in greenhouses and shade houses plots measure air temperature, relative humidity and photosynthetic active radiation during the growing season. The sensors are read every minute and averaged or totaled every hour.
Light-saturated photosynthetic rate, dark respiration, stomatal conductance and ratio of internal to external carbon dioxide concentration from the 1980-82 Eriophorum vaginatum reciprocal transplant plots from Eagle Creek to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, 2010
In 1980-1982, six transplant gardens were established along a latitudinal gradient in interior Alaska from Eagle Creek, AK, in the south to Prudhoe Bay, AK, in the north (Shaver et al. 1986) .Three sites, Toolik Lake (TL), Sagwon (SAG), and Prudhoe Bay (PB) are north of the continental divide and the remaining three, Eagle Creek (EC), No Name Creek (NN), and Coldfoot (CF), are south of the continental divide. Each garden consisted of 10 individual tussocks transplanted back to their home-site, as well as 10 individuals from each of the other transplant sites. Data were collected in July 2010 for tussocks transplanted in 1980-82 in a reciprocal transplant experiment and then harvested in 2011. Important variables are garden name, source population, light-saturated photosynthetic rate, dark respiration, stomatal conductance and ratio of internal to external carbon dioxide concentration.
Relative percent cover of plant species in low nutrient LTER moist acidic tundra experimental plots (MAT06) established in 2006 for years 2008, 2010-2025, Arctic LTER Toolik Field Station Alaska.
Relative percent cover of plant species was measured in low nutrient LTER moist acidic tundra experimental plots (MAT06). Treatments include a gradient of nitrogen and phosphorus additions along with ammonium and nitrate alone.
Carbon dioxide flux measurements and plot photographs from Arctic LTER Heath Tundra herbivore exclosures, Toolik Field Station, Alaska 2013
Ecosystem carbon dioxide (CO2) flux light response curves were measured from Arctic LTER heath tundra herbivore exclosures. Plot photographs were taken of each subplot using five consumer grade red, green and blue (RGB) wavelength camera. Structure from motion (SFM) photogrammetric method was then used to derive canopy structure. This file contains the CO2, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data and photographs for each plot.
Air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperatures and soil moisture for Arctic Long Term Experimental Research (ARC LTER) heath experimental plots, Toolik Field Station, North Slope Alaska for 2001-2024-09-22.
Air temperature and relative humidity at 3 meters, soil temperatures at 2 depths, 5 and 10 cm, canopy temperatures and soil moisture at 10 cm were measured in an Arctic Long Term Experimental Research (ARC-LTER) heath tundra site (DHT89) at Toolik Lake Field Station, North slope, Alaska. Only control and nutrient addition (nitrogen plus phosphorus ) treatments plots soils were measured. Note: In version 1 the moisture columns were mixed up. The fractional volumetric water columns were actually the period frequency of the wave of the sensor (Campbell Scientific CS616). Version 3 adds calculated percent moisture corrected for organic soil.

Fall 2007 plant monitoring survey -- shoot height and flowering status of plants in permanent plots at GCE sampling sites 1-10
A quadrat survey was conducted in October 2007 to measure the species and size distribution of plants at 10 GCE LTER sampling sites. The quadrats were established as permanent plots at GCE sampling sites in October 2000 by placing wooden stakes at random locations across two nominal zones at each site, designated based on marsh structure (creekbank and high marsh). Several new plots were also added in October 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 to replace those lost due to catastrophic wrack disturbance or creek bank erosion. The plots were visually surveyed and the species, shoot height, and flowering status was recorded individually for each shoot over 10 cm in height present in each plot. Observations from plots exhibiting signs of disturbance were noted in the data set with additional details recorded in GCE data set PLT-GCEM-1801. This survey will be repeated annually to assess changes in plant distribution and biomass in relation to environmental changes documented by other GCE LTER monitoring efforts.
