Combining Policies to Reduce the Spread of Viral Misinformation Online

Data were collected as part of the Election Integrity Partnership. Instances of potential misinformation were flagged as tickets. These were reviewed and categorized as misinformation if they made false claims related to election integrity. Details on the collection methods of the EIP can be found in our Report. These tickets were grouped together into qualitatively similar incidents. For example, tickets regarding false narratives about the use of Benford's law to detect fraud in Wisconsin became an incident. For each incident, search terms and appropriate data-ranges were determined to query our database.

Our full database consisted of all tweets matching an evolving set of keywords, collected in real time, using the Twitter API. To maintain user privacy, we are providing data segmented into events and aggregated into 5-minute blocks of time. This should be sufficient for replicating our findings (predicated on the aggregation and segmentation). In order to permit analysis under various user-removal conditions, we have provided multiple versions of this dataset with users removed according to the conditions evaluated in the manuscript. We encourage anyone with the need for more granular data or alternate conditions to reach out to the University of Washington Center for an Informed Public.

Survey questionnaire and results on Structural Barriers to Investment in Energy Efficiency Policies in the Private Rented Sector

The online survey was designed and conducted in the framework of the EU H2020 project ENPOR ("Actions to Mitigate Energy Poverty in the Private Rented Sector). The aim of the survey was to receive statistically sound insights on structural factors that affect the implementation of energy efficiency policies for the alleviation of energy poverty in the European Private Rented Sector. We developed it as an explorative, semi-quantitative, self-completion online questionnaire, using the online tool “EUSurvey”. We performed the online survey among different stakeholders from academia, policy, NGO’s, landlords and tenant associations, etc.

Estimating household preferences for coastal flood risk mitigation policies under ambiguity

Risk mitigation policies (like dike rising) are essential to address increasing coastal flood risks due to global warming. Furthermore, the optimal level of risk mitigation policy should be determined by public preferences for risk reduction. However, it is difficult to reveal public preferences for coastal flood risk reduction because projections of coastal flood risks inevitably involve uncertainty. This study aims to estimate household preference for coastal flood reduction under ambiguity and multiple projections of coastal flood risks. By coupling storm surge inundation simulations and stated preference experiments with decision models, we estimate the expected loss reduction, risk premium, and ambiguity premium for coastal flood risk mitigation policies. Results of the study show that ignoring the ambiguity premium causes significant undervaluation of coastal flood risk mitigation, and the ambiguity premium stems from households' over-concern about the worst projection, which may lead to an over-allocation of resources to prevent inundation damage caused from the worst-case flood before a disaster. The study concludes that a risk mitigation policy combining public insurance for the worst projection and pre-disaster prevention measures can be effective and efficient.

Can Digital Currencies End Financial Exclusion in Indonesia? Economic Realities and Policy Ambitions

Digitalisation is driving Indonesia’s economic development. The empowerment
of an efficient system of digital payments is a key underlying factor for the
establishment of an inclusive and well-developed digital economy. As a first
and fundamental step, the Bank of Indonesia launched the “National Cashless
Movement” (GNNT) in 2014. This vision was further advanced with the “Indonesia
Payment System Blueprint 2025” (IPS), which aimed at boosting digitalisation in
the banking industry through open banking and technology developments. As a
result, Indonesia’s digital economy and finance is recording remarkable upward
trends – such as an increase of 36.9 per cent in e-commerce and 52.6 per cent in
fintech lending transactions between 2020 and 2021. Similarly, cashless payments
are experiencing a spectacular growth. The usage of the Quick Response Indonesia
Standard (QRIS) system, which enhances cashless payment, has doubled. Credit
card transactions and e-money usage increased by 20 per cent and 51.6 per cent,
respectively, in the same two-year period.

In this context of vibrant, quick transformations, a diverse ecosystem – which
comprises incumbent financial institutions, start-ups and technology companies
– is trying to advance Indonesia’s digital payments while targeting the goal of
financial inclusion. The rise of digital payment solutions indeed provides a unique
window of opportunity to tackle the current 92 million unbanked Indonesians
and 62 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are excluded from
the formal economy in Indonesia.

Participant observation data from local, storytelling, multi-stakeholder energy policy workshops

The SHAPE ENERGY (EU Horizon 2020) undertook 17 multi-stakeholder energy policy workshops over November 2017 – May 2018. These workshops were mostly in partnership with municipalities who posed local energy problems that needed to be ‘solved’. The workshops brought local stakeholders together through storytelling facilitation techniques. The included data herein are anonymised components of the completed participant observation templates that partners used at these workshops. In particular, the data predominately relates to the conversational exchanges in one very closely monitored session across all the workshops.

Tracking Open Access Policy Compliance

This dataset, which was created by merging data from CrossRef, CORE, and Mendeley, contains metadata for over 800 thousand publications published between 2013 and 2018. The dataset was used to study how much time does it take for authors to deposit their articles in Open Access repositories in relation to when these articles were published. The source codes of our analysis are available at https://github.com/oacore/jcdl_2019.
