Process data for development of a digital material shadow for the press hardening route of medium manganese steel

<p>Press-hardened ultra-high strength steel parts are widely used in the automotive sector for their lightweight and safety advantages. Medium-Manganese Steels (MMnS) are being explored as an alternative to boron-manganese steels due to their high strength and ductility after quenching, achieved at lower annealing temperatures thus reducing energy usage and carbon emissions. However, industrial adoption of MMnS is hindered by challenging processing requirements, e.g. in cold-rolling and press hardening. To expedite and improve the process development, data-driven decisions based on process parameters hold promise. Establishing a link between process data and the final produced part necessitates the development of a framework for a Digital Material Shadow (DMS). This paper investigates the development of a DMS framework for the cold rolling and press hardening process chain. In conjunction with conventional data acquisition methods employed for cold rolling, novel data acquisition techniques are introduced specifically tailored for press hardening, ensuring the comprehensive availability of relevant data. Moreover, a data pipeline is implemented to enable automatic processing, visualization, and analysis of process data. To facilitate seamless data linkage across processes in the DMS, an ID-system is introduced. Finally, the developed framework&rsquo;s validity is demonstrated by creating a DMS for press-hardened MMnS parts, showcasing its potential for practical applications.</p>

Residual stress in steel benchmark determined by synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction

<p>The data presented is the residual stress, determined by synchrotron X-ray diffraction (SXRD) at DESY operated by Hereo (P07 and P61A) and neutron diffraction (ND) at ILL(SALSA). The data is for two benchmark samples having the same geometry (U shape) that can be measured by diffraction techniques and adapted to other material systems to validate RS measurements. One of them was elastically loaded while the other had stresses generated by plastic deformation, while having the same geometry.&nbsp;</p> <p>The U-flexure sample flexure-compression(FC), flexure-tension(FT_ and flexure-neutral(FN) were electrical discharge machine from a rolled plate. The U-bend(B) sample was obtained by three-point bending a cuboidal blank. The thicknes of the machine part is close to 10 mm and runs parallel to the z-direction. The measurement line runs from the centre of the top surface near the bend (defined at the origin) down into the bend (positive z-direction). The FN samples acted as stress-free reference for the U-flexures and a pin extracted from the bend was used for the U-bend. For the U-flexures, a finite element analysis (FEA) model was developed to account for the slight variations in loading conditions observed in the samples used for ND and SXRD. The results of the FEA model is also presented for comparison.</p> <p>The gauge volume sizes and shapes were dependent on the technique and research facility. The gauge volumes were: a) P07 &ndash; 0.2 x 0.2 x ~2.0 mm3&nbsp; (b) P61A- 0.15 x 0.15 x ~3.4 &micro;m3 (c) SALSA- 0.6 x 0.6 x 2 mm3.&nbsp;</p>

Study on corrosion behavior and corrosion scale characteristics of P110S steel in CO2-H2S saturated high-salt aqueous with pH buffer

<p>The corrosion behavior of P110S steel in CO2-H2S saturated high-salt aqueous with pH buffer was investigated using an autoclave. SEM, EDS, XRD, and Pourbaix diagrams were used to analyze the corrosion scale characteristics. P110S steel experienced severe localized corrosion in high-salt aqueous containing saturated with CO2-H2S despite the addition of pH buffer. The main component of the corrosion scale was mackinawite and FeCO3. The corrosion scale with mackinawite as the main component was dense and had a good protective effect. The corrosion was very light in the area covered by this corrosion scale. However, this corrosion scale was poorly bonded to the matrix and is prone to partial cracking and peeling, which was the cause of severe localized corrosion of P110S steel.</p>

Mechanical behavior of C45 steel at high temperatures and high strain rates—experimental data set and numerical approach

<p>In this publication we provide experimental data of dynamic compression tests of four microstructural variants of&nbsp;the C45 steel alloy performed at high temperatures and high strain rates. The presented data evidences the presence of Dynamic Strain Aging (DSA) in the material. Moreover, we provided the&nbsp;MATLAB codes of a calibration approach to estimate the material parameters of a plasticity&nbsp;model that accounts for DSA.</p> <p>The file &quot;Mechanical behavior of C45&quot; contains:</p> <p>1) Folder EXP_DATA contains experimental data of dynamic compression tests of the&nbsp;C45 steel variants in .mat format. The data is organized in&nbsp;cell arrays, and every cell in the arrays contains the data of one experiment. The data of each experiment is arranged as four columns arrays, as: column 1: Plastic strain, column 2: Flow stress, column 3: absolute temperature, column 4: strain rate</p> <p>2) Matlab code named CALIBRATION.m which executes a calibration approach of a modified Johnson-Cook that accounts for DSA. The form of the model is the following:</p> <p><span class="math-tex">\(\sigma(\varepsilon ,T,\dot{\varepsilon}) = (A+B\varepsilon^n)\left(1+Cln\left(\frac{\dot{\varepsilon}}{\dot{\varepsilon}^{ref}}\right)\right)\left( 1-\left(\frac{T-T^{ref}}{T^{melt}-T^{ref}}\right)^m\right) +\sigma^{dsa}(\varepsilon ,T,\dot{\varepsilon}) \)</span></p> <p>with,</p> <p><span class="math-tex">\(σ^{dsa} (ε,T,\dotε )=\frac{B_1}{ν} \left(\frac{ε^β}{ ε ̇T} exp⁡(-\frac{Q_m}{KT}) \right)^{\frac{2}{3}}\)</span>,&nbsp;<span class="math-tex">\(\frac{B_1}{\nu} = \frac{\psi \dot{\varepsilon}}{exp(\eta \frac{T}{\dot{\varepsilon}^\alpha})} \)</span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The code CALIBRATION contains a data presentation section that can be used to generate plots to compare calibrated models with the experimental data.&nbsp;Further instructions&nbsp;are commented in the code CALIBRATION.m.</p>
