The contribution of the R-PAS in the assessment of Adolescents with Suicidal Ideation and Behaviors

Introduction

This database includes the raw data linked with the paper “The contribution of the R-PAS in the assessment of Adolescents with Suicidal Ideation and Behaviors” published on “JOURNAL NAME”.

In this paper, we aimed to establish the suicide risk of those who seek psychiatric treatment as far as possible. Given that the presence of ideation is often denied by actual suicidal individuals – due to shame, stigma, and fear of being a burden to others – the Rorschach test may contribute to the assessment of risk/protective factors in personality functioning.

Methods

We administered the Multi-Attitude Suicide Tendency scale (MAST), Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), Rorschach-Performance Assessment System (R-PAS) to 136 adolescents (outpatient or inpatient) admitted to the Child Neuropsychiatry department of Lecco and Pavia (Italy). We identified 95 patients with suicidal concern (SC) and 41 with no suicidal concern (N.SC).

Results (in brief): There were significant differences in means of the SC-Comp among N.SC and SC groups; among the sub-components that make up this index, the most significantly related to suicidal concern were the variables VFD, CBlend, MOR, LSO-Cmplx, and Ego Index. The SC-Comp was, however, not able to distinguish adolescents with suicidal ideation from those with actual suicidal attempts, and this result is in line with the literature.

Reddit SuicideWatch and Mental Health Collection (SWMH) for Suicidal Ideation and Mental Disorder Detection

We collect this dataset from some mental health-related subreddits in https://www.reddit.com/ to further the study of mental disorders and suicidal ideation. We name this dataset as Reddit SuicideWatch and Mental Health Collection, or SWMH for short, where discussions comprise suicide-related intention and mental disorders like depression, anxiety, and bipolar. We use the Reddit official API and develop a web spider to collect the targeted forums. This collection contains a total of 54,412 posts. Specific subreddits are listed in Table 4 of the below paper, as well as the number and the percentage of posts collected in the train-val-test split.

This dataset is only for research. Religious Coping, Hopelessness, and Suicide Ideation in Subjects with First-EpisodeMajor Depression: An Exploratory Study in the RealWorld Clinical Practice

Religious Coping, Hopelessness, and Suicide Ideation
in Subjects with First-EpisodeMajor Depression:
An Exploratory Study in the RealWorld Clinical Practice

Abstract: Background. This study aimed to evaluate the potential relationships between religious
coping, hopelessness, and suicide ideation in adult outpatients with the first episode of major
depressive disorder (MDD). Methods. Ninety-four adult outpatients with MDD were assessed
through the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), and the
Scale of Suicide Ideation (SSI). Religious coping was assessed with the Italian version of the Brief
RCOPE scale, consisting of seven positive coping items (PosCop) and seven negative coping items
(NegCop). Results. The results showed that the Brief RCOPE PosCop scale exhibited a strong inverse
correlation with HAM-D, BHS, and SSI, whereas HAM-D and BHS were positively correlated with
SSI. Brief RCOPE NegCop scores were positively correlated only with SSI. Regression analysis with
SSI as the dependent variable showed that higher Brief RCOPE PosCop scores were associated with
lower suicide ideation, whereas higher HAM-D and BHS scores were associated with higher suicide
ideation. Conclusion. Positive religious coping may be a protective factor against the development of suicide ideation, perhaps counteracting the severity of depressive symptoms and hopelessness.
The evaluation of religious coping should be performed in all subjects with MDD in everyday clinical
practice. However, this study was preliminary, and limitations must be considered.
