Walking with the Vlachs: Hiking trail from the village of Draçova up to the Mount Nemërçka
<p>This is an alternative walk that strays from the main historic routes of the Vlach (<a href="https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/vlachs-transhumance-route-108659966" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/vlachs-transhumance-route-108659966</a> or <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10924809" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10924809</a>). The route is around 4 km long and it provides a daily walking alternative with a lot to explore. From the town of Përmet, you can choose to walk, cycle or drive for c. 21 km towards the south until reaching the start of the trail at the village of Draçova. Once there, take the right-hand path that leads along a watercourse lined up with old plane trees and gardens up to its spring. On the slope of the hill to the west are remains of the Bronze Age settlement of Dedejan. A narrow path up past the spring, of about 3 hours walking, takes through a beech and pine forest, leading to the beautiful meadow below the steep rocky cliff of Mount Nemërçka.</p>
185 Thewo Tibetan Lexical Items from 37 Thewo Villages
<p>In 2015-2016 I traveled to Diebu County, Gannan Prefecture, Gansu Province, The People's Republic of China. I recorded wordlists representing the speech variety of 37 villages in Diebu County. Most of these wordlists were collected onsite in the village. Several wordlists were collected in the county seat. The wordlist had 185 words. This document is a record of these 37 different villages' speech varieties. I used the International Phonetic Alphabet to record these Thewo Tibetan words. Following the Chinese practice, I used superscripted numbers to reflect tone. </p> <p>Most wordlists were gathered with a group of villagers present. Most of the speakers were farmers. Chinese was the main language used in communication while gathering the data. However, limited written Tibetan was used at times to clarify the item I was eliciting. During each elicitation session, I confirmed that the main people I was working with were from the village in question and had not spent significant time out of the village. In several instances, one of the people providing the lexical items had in fact spent considerable time out of the village. However, in these instances, there were others present who had spent their entire lives in the village. </p> <p>The font used in this record is Charis SIL. </p>
Hillforts overlooking village Grahovo - Slovenia
On the eastern edge of lake Cerknica above village Grahovo we can find 4 hillforts clustered together. It is typical for whole region around lake, that hillforts are situated on the hills surrounding it. As lake is intermittent it provides extensive farming land and pastures. 1. Hillfort Spicek is the largest of four. The remains of a wall around it are still in good condition. Inside it there are clearly seen the housing terraces. 2. Hillfort Zajcji Vrh is in between both bigger ones. Remains of a wall around it are still visible. 3. Hillfort Zerovniscek has double on some places triple wall around it. On the top level there are clearly seen remains of late antiquity (probably 5. and 6. century AD) houses. Iron age and later reused in late antiquity. 4. Hillfort Lisjak is the least preserved of all four. Even on lidar we barely see it.
