Data Access Made Easy: flexible, on the fly data standardization and processing (for research automatic weather stations)
<pre>Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) deployed in the context of research projects provide very valuable data thanks to the flexibility they offer in term of measured meteorological parameters, choice of sensors and quick deployment and redeployment. However this flexibility is a challenge in terms of metadata and data management. Traditional approaches based on networks of standard stations can not accommodate these needs and often no tools are available to manage these research AWS, leading to wasted data periods because of difficult data reuse, low reactivity in identifying potential measurement problems, and lack of metadata to document what happened. The Data Access Made Easy (DAME) effort is our answer to these challenges. At its core, it relies on the mature and flexible open source MeteoIO meteorological pre-processing library. It was originally developed as a flexible data processing engine for the needs of numerical models consuming meteorological data and further developed as a data standardization engine for the Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). For each AWS, a single configuration file describes how to read and parse the data, defines a mapping between the available fields and a set of standardized names and provides relevant Attribute Conventions Dataset Discovery (ACDD) metadata fields, if necessary on a per input file basis. Low level data editing is also available, such as excluding a given sensor, swapping sensors or merging data from another AWS, for any given time period. Moreover an arbitrary number of filters can be applied on each meteorological parameter, restricted to specific time periods if required. This allows to describe the whole history of an AWS within a single configuration file and to deliver a single, consistent, standardized output file possibly spanning many years, many input data files and many changes both in format and available sensors. Finally, all configuration files are versionned in order to document their history. A web interface has been developed that allows data owners to manage the configuration files for their stations, refresh their data at regular intervals, inspect the data QA log files and allow on-demand data generation. The same interface allows other users to request data on-demand for any time period.<br><br>This presentation and software has received funding from the World Meteorological Organization under grant agreement No. 29539/2022-1.9 as well as the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 101003472 (Arctic Passion). GPR data collected near the Chepeta Weather Station and the DUST-1 sampler, Uinta Mountains, Utah
Ground penetrating radar data collected on September 9, 2021 in the Uinta Mountains at the Chepeta Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS) and the DUST-1 passive dust sampler. Data were collected with a GSSI SIR-4000 control unit and a 350HS antenna connected to an Emlid Reach RS2 GPS receiver. Data files have been distance normalized and field-applied range gains have been removed before being exported in .sgy format. Files were also exported in .kml format for viewing the transect locations in Google Earth. Two long transects (780 feet each) were collected. The "West" transect passed to the west of the Chepta RAWS; the "East" transect passed to the east. The transects started at different points along the northern lip of the summit upland and came together at a common point at their southern ends. Marks were made in the data file every 60 feet while surveying; these marks were used to distance normalize the results. The system collected 334 scans/second with 512 samples/scan while surveying. Two 30-foot perpendicular transects were also surveyed (north to south, and west to east) with their intersection adjacent to a soil pit excavated to a depth of 92 cm. The location of the soil pit was noted in each transect with a mark near 16 feet. Data were used to evaluate spatial variations in the thickness of regolith overlying the bedrock beneath this gently sloping summit flat.

This data set contains measurements of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, PAR density, and rainfall from the Lower Jones Creek Station, Macon County, North Carolina. Air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and PAR density are measured every 60 seconds with average, minimum, maximum, and discrete top of the hour values saved to the output data table hourly. Wind direction is measured every 60 seconds with the average value saved to the output data table every hour. Hourly rainfall is totalized and a continous 24 hour rainfall value is calculated. Calculations for dew point, heat index, wind chill, and wind vector are calculated hourly and saved to the ouput data table.

Hourly and Daily Climatologies for VCR LTER Weather Stations 1989-2021
This dataset contains daily and hourly climatologies for VCR LTER Weather Stations. Each measurement is summarized with the 5th percentile, 10 percent trimmed mean, and 95th percentile values. The datasets contain climatologies for each station, as well as for all data combined. The dataset also contains R scripts used to obtain these climatologies.
