The role of atmospheric transport for El-Nino Southern Oscillation teleconnections

This archive includes the data used for the manuscript "The role of atmospheric transport for El Nino Southern Oscillation teleconnections" submitted to Geophysical Research Letter.

All data is available as monthly means. "anomaly"-files include the anomalies between the tagged and untagged air as discussed in the manuscript (see Methods), for specific humidity (hum), potential temperature (theta) and total energy (energy). The mass fraction of the tagged to all the particles is included in mass_frac. The temporal change in total energy (ediv) is available both as 2d and 3d (vertical) for both tagged and untagged particles. Temporal change in height (dz) and potential temperature (dtheta) is included for the tagged air.

The data for the Sensitivity study on the selection of timelength is available in the timelength.

The data is included for following seasons: DJF (December-January-February), MAM (March-April-May), JJA (June-July-August), SON (September-October-November).

Atmospheric microbiome in Israel, Eastern Mediterranean

Processes influencing the atmospheric transport of airborne bacterial communities are poorly understood. Here, we report quantitative evidence of the key factors influencing the atmospheric transport of airborne bacterial communities sampled in Israel, Eastern Mediterranean. We extracted DNA and RNA from size-resolved aerosols sampled from air masses of different origins, followed by qPCR and high-throughput amplicon sequencing of 16S ribosomal RNA gene and transcripts. We find airborne bacterial community composition varied with air mass origin and particle size. Bacterial abundance, alpha diversity and species richness were higher in terrestrially-influenced air masses than marine-influenced air masses, and were also high in the coarse particle fraction (3.0 to 10.0 µm) than the fine fraction (0.49 to 1.5 µm). This suggests airborne bacteria were mostly associated with mineral dust or transported as cell aggregates. High abundances of rRNA from human, animal and plant pathogen taxa indicate potential ecological impacts of atmospheric bacterial transport.

Mount Holyoke College Laser Induced Breakdown Spectra; SuperLIBS 10K; Mars analog atmosphere

Laser induced breakdown spectra of reference targets with known composition. Spectra were acquired on the SuperLIBS instrument at Mount Holyoke College under a Mars-like atmosphere at laser energies of 2.4 mJ, 4.0 mJ, 5.6 mJ, and 7.2 mJ. Processing includes baseline removal (airPLS) and normalization within each spectral region (UV, VIS, and VIS-NIR). This is a subset of a larger LIBS reference database that will be available on the NASA PDS Geosciences node at: https://doi.org/10.17189/b2aj-cz96.
