Data from: Hierarchical power control of a large-scale wind farm by using a data-driven optimization method
<p><span>With the participation in automatic generation control (AGC), a large-scale wind farm should distribute the real-time AGC signal to numerous wind turbines (WTs). This easily leads to an expensive computation for a high-quality dispatch scheme, especially considering the wake effect among WTs. To address this problem, a hierarchical power control (HPC) is constructed based on the geographical layout and electrical connection of all the WTs. Firstly, the real-time AGC signal of the whole wind farm is distributed to multiple decoupled groups in proportion of their regulation capacities. Secondly, the AGC signal of each group is distributed to multiple WTs via the data-driven surrogate-assisted optimization, which can dramatically reduce the computation time with a small number of time-consuming objective evaluations. Besides, a high-quality dispatch scheme can be acquired by the efficient local search based on the dynamic surrogate. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is thoroughly verified with different AGC signals under different wind speeds and directions.</span></p>

Hydrothermal carbonization of vegetable-tanned leather shavings (HTC-VTS) for environmental remediation: optimization of process conditions
<p><span>Herein, the response surface methodology (RSM) has been used to study simultaneously the effects of carbonization temperature, residence time, and moisture content on the activated hydrochar preparation-based vegetable-tanned leather shavings (VTS) using hydrothermal carbonization method (HTC). Owing to the desirability chosen, three responses were analysed, namely: the hydrochar yield, iodine, and methylene blue numbers. The analysis of experimental results revealed that the hydrochar yield was decreased with an increase in carbonization temperature which led to micropores formation inside the hydrochar network. The optimal preparation conditions retained were: 83.10%, 390.44 mg/g, and 259.63 mg/g for the hydrochar yield, iodine, and methylene blue number respectively. The hydrochar micrograph showed the presence of external pores, whereas the FTIR analysis recorded the presence of acidic functional groups found on hydrochar surface. The findings revealed that the VTS is a good precursor for the hydrochar preparation useful in the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants in aqueous media. </span></p>

Understanding and mitigating resistive losses in fired passivating contacts: role of the interfaces and optimization of the thermal budget
<p>We study p-type passivating contacts based on SiCx formed via a rapid thermal processing step, using conditions compatible with the firing used to sinter screen-printed metallization pastes in industry. Firstly, we separate the contributions of the two interfaces to the contact resistivity (wafer/contact and contact/metal), identifying tunnelling at the wafer interface as the main contribution. We then investigate the dependence of contact resistivity and sheet resistance of the SiCx layer on the concentration of active dopants and we propose strategies to reduce both resistances by increasing the thermal budget applied during firing. Lastly, we discuss potentials and limitations of implementing the investigated stacks as rear side contacts of p-type devices with localized metallization, and we show that an oxide layer that can withstand high thermal budgets is the key factor for obtaining high passivation quality and good electrical properties at the same time. The results obtained with an oxide based on N2O plasma oxidation show that this layer is a promising candidate for such an application.</p>
