MEaSUREs Arctic Sea Ice Characterization Daily 25km EASE-Grid 2.0 V001

This data set, part of the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program, provides a daily record of Arctic sea ice characteristics for the years 1979 through 2012 derived from passive microwave brightness temperatures. Characteristics include the location of sea ice cover, sea ice age, day of melt onset, and status of melt onset. Data are gridded in the 25 km Equal-Area Scalable Earth Grid (EASE-Grid) 2.0 and provided as netCDF files.

Accelerating ice mass loss across Arctic Russia in response to Atlantification of the Eurasian Arctic Shelf Seas

This file contains three datasets of geophysical data compiled from satellite observations made over the archipelagos of Novaya Zemlya and Severnaya Zemlya in the Russian Arctic between 2010 and 2018:

- maps of surface elevation change (dh) over the entire glaciated area of the two regions, and rasterised ice masks (source RGI 6.0) of both land- and marine-terminating glaciers and ice caps;

- time series of surface elevation change (dh) at 90-day time steps over single glacier and ice cap basins, and over larger areas (control domains) defined as follows: B1N, B2N, B3N, B4N, K1N, K2N, K3N (Novaya Zemlya), and K1S, K2S, L1S, L2S, L3S (Severnaya Zemlya);

- climate forcing (T2m, SST, SIC and SOTF1-3) averaged over each of the 12 aforementioned control areas. The climate data is presented as time series, means and longer term trends of seasonal (90-days) anomalies with respect to a pre-defined baseline period.

A more complete description of these datasets will be provided in the publication with the same name (currently in review).

Arctic Sea Ice Seasonal Change and Melt/Freeze Climate Indicators from Satellite Data, Version 1

The product contains melt-season indicators that can be used to delineate various stages in the summer melt and freeze-up period of sea ice. The data were primarily derived using Sea Ice Concentration (SIC) observations from the NOAA/NSIDC Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration and brightness temperature observations from the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures; both input data sets are archived at NSIDC. The main parameters for this data set include the dates of melt onset, early melt onset, and continuous melt onset; dates of early and continuous freeze onset; day of opening (last day SIC is above 80%); day of retreat (last day SIC drops below 15%); day of advance (first day SIC increases above 15%); day of closing (first day SIC increases above 80%); total outer ice-free period; total inner ice-free period; seasonal loss-of-ice period; seasonal gain-of-ice period; and the seasonal ice zone.These data are available for 1979 through 2017. They are gridded on the NSIDC northern hemisphere polar stereographic grid at 25 km.
