Bathymetric data for Mulargia reservoir (Sardinia, Italy)

This dataset includes bathymetric data for Mulargia reservoir (Sardinia), which were extracted from a raster dataset of 30 m x 30 m resolution that contained three fields: latitude (UTM 32N), longitude (UTM 32N) and elevation (meters). Three different database sources were combined and interpolated for the production of the bathymetric raster: the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) digital elevation model, a military map (19/9/1882, No.1012), and data on water level variations from 1985 to 2016.

The Big Dipper with the Sardinia Radio Telescope SRT

Honorable mention in the 2023 IAU OAE Astrophotography Contest, category Time-lapses of rotation of Big Dipper or Southern Cross: The Big Dipper with the Sardinia Radio Telescope SRT, by Antonio Finazzi.

This time-lapse captures the movement of the stars alongside the majestic 64-metre Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) from the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), with special attention to the renowned Big Dipper against the backdrop of the celestial sphere. The camera pans as the famous asterism sinks in the sky while planes fly past and the radio telescope rotates. The harmonious interplay between the stellar pathways and the colossal dish of the radio telescope creates a mesmerising visual ode to the cosmic ballet taken in September 2019, earning it an honourable mention in the category of Time-lapses of rotation of Big Dipper or Southern Cross.

Credit: Antonio Finazzi/IAU OAE (CC BY 4.0)

Drones' footage and Photos from floods in Sardinia, Italy (November, December 2020)

This dataset was gathered during the deadly flooding that happened in 2020 in Bitti, a municipality in Sardinia. The event took place on November 28th, 2020. A destructive massive mudslide, caused by the heavy rains, poured along the main street in the town, and its height was 4 meters. Some of the residents have been moved to avoid the worst. The drone flights captured and collected data (videos and photos) from the day after the storm, November 29th, up to December 4th. There is a sequence of operative actions undertaken by the people involved, such as the Civil Protection Department, Firefighters, Police, Carabinieri, volunteered associations, and many more.

Satellite-derived water quality data for Lake Mulargia (Sardinia, Italy) 2015-2019
This dataset contains satellite-derived water quality (WQ) data of Lake Mulargia (Sardinia, Italy) for the years 2015-2019. Available parameters are: Total Absorption (ABS), Chlorophyll-a (CHL), Harmful Algae Bloom Indicator (HAB), True-color image (RGB), Secchi Disc Depth (SDD), Sea Surface Temperature (SST), Total Suspended Matter (TSM) and Turbidity (TUR). WQ parameters have been calculated using EOMAPs physics-based MIP from Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8. The data are available as GeoTiff files in web-mercator projection (EPSG: 3857). Further information can be found in the readme files. Contains Copernicus data. Credits: ESA (2022). Landsat data courtesy of the United States Geological Survey (2022).
Satellite-derived chlorophyll-a concentrations for Lake Mulargia (Sardinia, Italy) using Mixture Density Networks and Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 imagery

This dataset contains satellite-derived chlorophyll-a data of Lake Mulargia (Sardinia, Italy) for the period 29 Mar. 2013 - 31 Jan. 2021. Chlorophyll-a concentrations have been calculated using Mixture Density Networks and Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 imagery.

Mixture Density Networks are a class of neural networks that tackle the inverse problem by modelling the multimodal distribution of target variables using a mixture of Gaussians.
