Cost Management in Cloud Computing: a study on financial waste and correction strategies
<p>This project explores the identification and mitigation of financial wastage in Cloud Computing (CC) operations by professionals in the field, examining the alignment of their strategies with FinOps guidelines. Through a survey distributed via social media and messaging apps to CC professionals, the study engaged 28 participants from various companies, sizes, and sectors. It revealed that these professionals have encountered cost-related issues in cloud applications, particularly financial wastage. The investigation aimed to understand the prevalence of financial wastage in CC and evaluate the effectiveness of the adopted practices in addressing these inefficiencies within the framework of FinOps principles.</p>

The effect of particle board industry waste tar on the physical and biological durability of wood
<p>This manuscript investigated the effect of waste tar from particle board factories on some physical and biological resistance properties of Scots pine (<em>Pinus sylvestris </em>L.) and beech (<em>Fagus orientalis </em>L.) woods. Solutions were prepared by dissolving waste tar in ethanol:toluene (1v:1v) in concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% and treated under vacuum and pressure. In addition, surface coating (SC) was applied by spreading 96% waste tar on the wood surfaces after treatment. Deep-treated and surface-coated (DT+SC) wood samples were exposed to the wood-decay fungi (<em>Corillous versicolor</em> L. and <em>Neolentinus lepideus</em> Fr.) and wood destroying house borer (<em>Hylotrupes bajulus </em>L.) larvaes. Total phenolic content, water uptake, water-repellent efficiency and surface contact angle were tested. The highest mean weight loss (45.23%) was found in the beech wood control samples exposed to <em>C. versicolor</em>. Beech samples deep-treated with a 20% concentration and surface treatment (DT+SC) yielded a mass loss of 14.03%. The <em>H. bajulus</em> larvae mortality rate was found to be 80% in the Scots pine wood samples deep-treated with 20% waste tar. The deep treatment with the waste tar solution significantly increased the surface contact angle values of the Scots pine wood, thereby significantly reducing the wettability of the wood compared to the untreated control samples. </p>

<p>These data supplement the article"Benthic diatom communities in an Alpine river impacted by waste water treatment effluents as revealed using DNA metabarcoding" submitted to Frontiers in Microbiology: </p> <p>The directory contains the following files:</p> <p><strong>64 PGM sequencing files (raw data, fastq files) </strong>- one file is provided for each sample by the sequencing platform with demultiplexed DNA reads (raw data prior any bioinformatics treatments).</p> <p><strong>Sample_Names.xlsx</strong> - contains the information relative to the 64 samples including: the ID used in Mothur analyses (corresponding to the name of the fastq files), the sample name and the raw reads number for each sample.</p>

Automatic System for Food Waste Assessment at Household
<p>ntroducing the Automatic System for Food Waste Assessment at Household developed under the WASTELESS project. This tool, which is tailored to everyday use, supports the measurement of food waste in households and is intended to improve and validate existing methods such as surveys. The tool includes a set of features to measure and estimate various types of food waste generated in households. The developed tool will be demonstrated on a representative sample of households to ensure its reliability and applicability. The core of this tool is a user-friendly scale complemented by a dedicated application for cell phones that enables seamless data collection and transfer to a centralized database. The data collected is then analysed and the results obtained are extrapolated to a wider population, allowing a more comprehensive evaluation of the parameters traditionally determined with questionnaires and interviews.</p>
