Data from: Challenging the conceptual framework of maintenance hosts for influenza A viruses in wild birds

1.The conceptual framework considering Anseriformes and Charadriiformes as the main maintenance hosts for influenza A viruses (IAV) in wild birds has shaped IAV research and surveillance over the last decades. 2.We challenge this framework by reviewing the worldwide surveillance data on non-Anseriformes and non-Charadriiformes (NANC) species, generally considered as playing little role in IAV maintenance, available in literature and online data bases (close to 200 sources). 3.Globally, we found an IAV infection rate of 1.51% (95% CI, 1.44%–1.59%) for c.101 000 birds tested from NANC species. If Anseriformes have, as expected, a higher infection rate than any other bird orders, eight bird orders have an infection rate higher or close to the Charadriiformes infection rate, challenging the status of Charadriiformes. 4.We interpret the attention paid in favour of Charadriiformes by an extrapolation bias from data collected in hotspots of IAV infection in Charadriiformes (e.g. Delaware Bay, USA). 5.The growing data on IAV in wild birds worldwide, summarised here, supports two non-exclusive hypotheses: (i) the quality of the diagnostic tools and techniques used explain the patterns observed; (ii) IAV maintenance is determined by complex multi-host systems composed of multiple bird species, dependent on the ecosystem and its bird diversity and composition. 6.Synthesis and applications. Our results have two main implications. First, new research and surveillance should be designed in order to understand influenza A viruses ecology in wild birds across the world, along with appropriate diagnostic tools and new hypotheses and dedicated protocols. This should be done in line with our new conceptual framework that conveys less a priori than its predecessor. Secondly, our results call for more bridging between biological and epidemiological sciences in order to tackle disease ecology in multi-host systems.

Ecological and conceptual consequences of Arctic pollution

<p>Though the effect of pollution on forest health and decline received much attention in the 1980s, it has not been considered to explain the 'Divergence Problem' in dendroclimatology; a decoupling of tree growth from rising air temperatures since the 1970s. Here we use physical and biogeochemical measurements of hundreds of living and dead conifers to reconstruct the impact of heavy industrialisation around Norilsk in northern Siberia. Moreover, we develop a forward model with surface irradiance forcing to quantify long-distance effects of anthropogenic emissions on the functioning and productivity of Siberia's taiga. Downwind from the world's most polluted Arctic region, tree mortality rates of up to 100% have destroyed 24,000 km2 boreal forest since the 1960s, coincident with dramatic increases in atmospheric sulphur, copper, and nickel concentrations. In addition to regional ecosystem devastation, we demonstrate how 'Arctic Dimming' can explain the circumpolar 'Divergence Problem', and discuss implications on the terrestrial carbon cycle.</p>

Conceptual Understanding: "What is Studentd Spatial Thinking Design in Geometry Learning?"

<p>Data for Classification indicators of spatial thinking.</p> <p>The change of paradigms in national assessment in 2021 became a particular issue for teachers in improving student competencies. The main issue encountered by teacher is the way to improve student competencies in mathematic learning, especially in geometry. This writing is aimed to outline spatial thinking indicators with six relevant background components of realistic geometry, and to describe students&#39; spatial spatial thinking design to acquire a geometric comprehension by using google sketch-up. The spatial thinking indicators are outluned with six background components of realistic geometry by using explanatory factor analysis (EFA) with JASP software 0.15.0.0. The acquires research results show the correlations between sighting and projecting, orienting and locating, transforming, constructing and drawing, measuring and calculation, and spatial reasoning variables. Spatial thinking indicators are outlined in six component groups of realistic geometry. The results ca be used as the consideration for teachers in identifying students conceptual understanding to support the improvement of student competencies.</p>
