Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) taken from discrete water column samples collected during annual cruise along western Antarctic Peninsula, 2003-2012.
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a poorly-characterized but large and dynamic pool of actively-cycling carbon in the oceans, and one of the largest organic carbon pools on the planet. The total DOC pool consists of three major fractions: refractory DOC resistant to microbial oxidation with a turnover time of millennia; semi-labile DOC, produced and decomposed on seasonal timescales, and labile DOC, consisting of simple, recently-produced compounds with nanomolar concentrations, and turnover times of minutes-days. The background concentration of refractory DOC in the deep ocean is 35-45 micromolar. DOC concentration in the upper 100-200 meters is enhanced by 10-50 micromolar with the addition of semilabile DOC. In subtropical and temperate oceans, semilabile DOC can form an important part of the carbon export by deep vertical mixing into the oceanic mid-depths. Concentrations of semilabile DOC are lower in the polar Southern Ocean than in most other regions.

<p>Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in soil solution plays roles in soil C storage and biogeochemical cycles. Factors regulating fluxes and concentrations of DOC still remain unclear. <p>This dataset (in Microsoft Excel format) provides the underlying data described in the Science Advances paper, "Long-term rise in riverine dissolved organic carbon concentration is predicted by electrolyte solubility theory", by D.T. Monteith, P.A. Henrys, J.Hruška, H.A. de Wit, P. Krám, F. Moldan, M. Posch, A. Räike, J.L. Stoddard, E.M. Shilland, M.G. Pereira & C.D. BOREAS TGB-03 Dissolved Organic Carbon Data from the NSA
The BOREAS TGB-03 team collected Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) data during the summer of 1994 in the Northern Study Area. The purpose of this work was to establish the major sources, sinks and fluxes of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the Northern Study Area. Data on DOC concentrations taken from samples representing the major sources and sinks were to be combined with hydrologic measurements (e.g. precipitation, stream flow etc.) to calculate DOC fluxes.
BOREAS TGB-05 Dissolved Organic Carbon Data from NSA Beaver Ponds
The BOREAS TGB-05 team collected several data sets related to carbon and trace gas fluxes and concentrations in the NSA. This data set contains concentrations of dissolved organic and inorganic carbon species from water samples collected at various NSA sites. In particular, this set covers the NSA Tower Beaver Pond Site and the NSA Gillam Road Beaver Pond Site, including data from all visits to open water sampling locations during the BOREAS field campaigns from April to September 1994.

Samples were collected within three ecologically distinct but socio-economically vital bays surrounding South Africa's Greater Cape Floristic Region: St Helena Bay, Walker Bay, and Algoa Bay. A global distribution of dissolved organic carbon in soil and in leaching - (database)
<p>Current global carbon (C) models are not representing the fraction of C which is displaced along the terrestrial aquatic continuum thus overestimating the land sink capacity. In order to obtain more reliable C budgets, we need to integrate the lateral transfers of C from terrestrial ecosystems through the inland water network down to the oceans, including biogeochemical transformation during transport and C exchange with the atmosphere.Representing the production and cycling of dissolved organic C (DOC) in the soil column and the leaching of DOC into the inland water network is a first major step in this development.</p> <p>In this study we used newly developed model JULES-DOCM to obtain the first global estimate of global soil DOC stock and DOC concentration, DOC concentration in runoff and DOC leaching flux.</p> <p>In this dataset model produced files are stored as netcdf files including soil DOC stocks (at Top (0-35 cm) and Total soil (0-300cm), soil DOC concentration (at Top (0-35 cm) and Bottom ( 35-300cm)), DOC leaching flux (averaged over 1980-2010) and DOC concentration in runoff (averaged over 1980-2010).</p> <p>The measured DOC collected database is enclosed as the Excel file.</p>
