Data from: Wild Goffin's cockatoos flexibly manufacture and use tool sets
<p>The use of different tools to achieve a single goal is considered unique to human and primate technology. To unravel the origins of such complex behaviors, it is crucial to investigate tool use that does not occur species wide. These cases can be assumed to have emerged innovatively and be applied flexibly, thus emphasizing creativity and intelligence. However, it is intrinsically challenging to record tool innovations in natural settings that do not occur species-wide. Here we report the discovery of two distinct tool manufacture methods and the use of tool sets in wild Goffin's cockatoos (<i>Cacatua goffiniana</i>). Up to three types of wooden tools, differing in their physical properties and each serving a different function, were manufactured and employed to extract embedded seed matter of <i>Cerbera manghas</i>. While Goffin's cockatoos do not depend on tool-obtained resources, repeated observations of two temporarily kept wild birds and indications from free-ranging individuals suggest this behavior occurs in the wild, albeit not species-wide. The use of a tool set in a non-primate implies convergent evolution of advanced tool use. Furthermore, these observations demonstrate how a species without hands can achieve dexterity in a high-precision task. This finding of flexible use and manufacture of tool sets in animals distantly related to humans significantly diversifies the phylogenetic landscape of technology.</p>

Neutron Bragg edge imaging for strain characterization in powder bed additive manufacturing environments
<p>The paper describes an approach to disentangle the recorded transmission spectrum obtained from Bragg edge imaging. The transmission spectrum of the samples embedded in their corresponding powder was successfully extracted, proven by the coinciding strain maps produced. The horizontal profiles from the maps were plotted together with neutron diffraction results and they agree very well. The uploaded data were the raw data obtained from Bragg edge imaging and neutron diffraction experiments used to construct the strain maps and plots shown in the paper.</p>

<p>The catalogue was compiled from suitable data available in literature and from the data measured or created by the project "18NRM02 PRISM-eBT" (Primary standards and traceable measurement methods for X-ray emitting electronic brachytherapy devices; http://www.ebt-empir.eu/) of the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR).</p> <p>The main goal of the catalogue was to develop a set of harmonised reference X-ray qualities denoted as “eBT equivalent” that would be established for in-laboratory activities by the X-ray tubes usually available for calibration in calibration laboratories, but the tube voltage and the filter are specifically selected to simulate the energy spectrum of the corresponding eBT radiation as closely as possible at the reference point. </p> <p>The catalogue contains the following spectra:</p> <p>1) X-ray spectrum for 50 kVp in 1 cm water depth obtained using Monte Carlo simulation.<br> 2) eBT-equivalent spectrum in 1 cm water depth calculated from 1) with SpekPy software.<br> 3) X-ray spectrum for 50 kVp in 1 cm water depth obtained using Monte Carlo simulation.<br> 4) X-ray fluence spectrum in air laterally at 50 cm distance measured by NIST presented in graphical form only.</p>

Reconceiving how the manufactured assets are harnessed in the production-consumption system is at the heart of the paradigm shifts necessary for long-term sustainability. Our research integrates 50 years of economic and environmental data to provide the global legacy environmental footprint (LEF) and unveil the historical materials extractions, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and health impacts accrued in today's manufactured capital. We show that between 1995-2019, global LEF growth outpaced GDP and population growth, and the current high level of national capital stocks has been heavily relying on global supply chains in metals. The LEF shows a larger or growing gap between developed and less-developed economies while economic returns from global asset supply chains disproportionately flow to developed economies, resulting in a double burden for less-developed economies. Our results show ensuring best-practice in asset production while prioritizing wellbeing outcomes is essential in addressing global inequalities and protecting the environment. Achieving this requires a paradigm shift in sustainability science and policy, as well as in green finance decision-making, to move beyond the focus on the resource use and emissions of daily operations of the assets and instead take into account the long-term environmental footprints of capital accumulation.</p>

<p> SLM (selective laser melting) has faced challenges in ensuring consistent mechanical properties for various geometries in the past. However, the authors have developed a system that solves this issue by calculating the optimal process parameters for each scan vector on each layer. This approach ensures consistent melt pool geometry, derived from the most robust in conduction welding mode. The results from the single melt-line experiments and the presented thermal conduction solver demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in achieving a stable melt pool geometry in stainless steel (1.4404 or 316L). Furthermore, a rigorous testing regimen has been implemented to evaluate the system under different changing boundary conditions, to further demonstrate its usefulness. By utilizing this system, manufacturers will achieve consistent and high-quality mechanical properties for small lot sizes, including spare and obsolescent parts.</p>

The Moderating Effect of Employee Agility on the Link between Employee Vitality, Digital Literacy and Transformational Leadership with Job Performance: An Empirical Study of HR Practitioners in the Manufacturing Sector of Northern Malaysia.
<p>This is a dataset for a study that examines the effects of employee vitality, digital literacy, and transformational leadership on job performance. Additionally, it investigates the moderating role of employee agility in these relationships. Data were collected from HR practitioners in manufacturing companies in the northern region of Malaysia for analysis. The results indicate that the job performance of HR practitioners is positively influenced by employee vitality, digital literacy and transformational leadership. </p>
Qualitative research - green organizations, green competencies - 10 manufacturing companies
<p>The questionnaire consisted of a general section meant to identify the type of the company, the region of its activity and the average number of employees together with with details of the respondent’s job position. The purpose of the second part of the questionnaire was to define the variables that make it possible to describe the company. These included the following ten: 1) sustainable<br> manufacturing; 2) green human resource management; 3) knowledge and awareness of ecology and sustainability; 4) environmental management; 5) green marketing; 6) environmentally friendly product design; 7) green supply chains; 8) closed-loop waste management; 9) zero waste buildings; 10) minimising the use of resources, including energy. Subsequently, based on the literature devoted to green competences, the questions were divided into four categories: knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance-related managerial skills. A total of 138 concepts were defined that were then assigned to separate categories and evaluated by respondents. 10 manufacturing companies were surveyed (quantitative research). </p> <p>The research was funded by the National Science Centre in Poland 2021/05/X/HS4/00974</p>
