Historic Ceramic Sherd - Tall Ship

This ceramic sherd was uncovered on Michigan State University's campus during the summer 2018 field season through a shovel test survey on the north bank of the Red Cedar River. It has the image of a tall ship on it through the process of transfer printing. This model was created by CAP Fellow Jack A. Biggs using photogrammetry and Agisoft PhotoScan. SHIP gut microbiome dataset for GP2 analysis

<p>The Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP) is a population-based study. SHIP consists of the two independent cohorts: SHIP-START and SHIP-TREND. The aim of the study is the investigation of common risk factors, subclinical disorders and manifest diseases in the population of Northeast Germany. Determination of gut microbiota profiles using 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed as described before in detail [1]. Impact of Marine Shipping Emissions on Ozone Pollution during the Warm Seasons in China

Data from: Sea ice choke points reduce the length of the shipping season in the Northwest Passage

<p>Arctic sea ice has shifted from a perennial (older, thicker ice) to a seasonal (younger, thinner) ice regime, leading to the increasingly common belief that shipping through Canada's Northwest Passage is becoming more viable. Here, we use the Risk Index Outcome values derived from the Polar Operational Limit Assessment Risk Indexing System and analyze recent changes to shipping season lengths along individual sections of the Northwest Passage routes from 2007 to 2021. Results show that multi-year ice flushed southward from high-latitude regions maintains the so-called choke points along certain route sections, reducing overall shipping season length. There is considerable spatiotemporal variability in shipping season lengths along the southern and northern routes. Specifically, parts of the northern route exhibit a decrease of up to 14 weeks over the 15 years. The variability of shipping season and, in particular, the shortening of the season will impact not only international shipping but also resupply and the cost of food in many Arctic communities, which require a prompt policy response.</p>

Ship Plume Dispersion in Marseille Port: A High-Resolution CFD Visualization

<p><strong><u>Description</u></strong></p> <p>This video visualizes the results of a high-resolution Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model applied to study ship plume dispersion in the passenger port of Marseille, France. The video focuses on a scenario where a small cruise/pleasure ship docked at the port turns on its main engines in preparation for departure, considering seaborn prevailing wind conditions.</p> <p>The visualization concentrates on two areas. The first is the area around La Major Cathedral, which is close to the waterfront. The second is a street canyon approximately 650 meters downwind of the ship's location. Due to the local urban layout, the plume becomes entrapped within this distant street canyon. Here, the spatial distribution of pollutants can vary even between neighboring floors of a single building. Global shipping emissions for the years 2013 and 2016-2021

<p>The shipping emission datasets of the globe with 9<strong> </strong>species (NO<em><sub>x</sub></em>, CO, HC, SO<sub>2</sub>, PM<sub>2.5</sub>, CO<sub>2</sub>, &nbsp;&nbsp;N<sub>2</sub>O, CH4, and BC) with a spatial resolution of 0.1<sup>o</sup> &times; 0.1<sup>o</sup>, the temporal resolution of days for the years 2013 and 2016-2021 were established based on SEIM (Sipping Emission Inventory Model). Based on well-cleaned AIS (Automatic Identification System) data and&nbsp; STSD (Ship Technical Specifications Database), SEIM model can simulate ship emissions for every ship by every two subsequent AIS signals, which are typically only a few seconds or tens of seconds apart. US Navy's Full Ship Shock Trial of 2021 (FSST2021)

<p>This dataset comprises underwater acoustic recordings of large underwater explosions from the US Navy&rsquo;s Full Ship Shock Trial (FSST) conducted off the coast of Florida, USA in the summer of 2021.
